Local pro-lifers unite to save Virginia maternity home

Local pro-lifers come together to save Virginia maternity home | LifeSiteNews.com: Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley is home to numerous PCCs, but for pregnant women who need a place to live, the area has long had only one maternity home. When the founder's sudden passing a few years ago, a group of local pro-lifers came together to make sure that the needs of pregnant women in the area would not go unmet. The newly founded New Eve Ministries is a testimony to the dedication of a local pro-life community that wants to make sure, in the words of President Bob Seale, that “we do everything we can to keep these women from aborting their babies.”

Judge strikes down Oklahoma ultrasound law as unconstitutional

Judge strikes down Oklahoma ultrasound law as unconstitutional | Tulsa World: Oklahoma County District Judge Bryan Dixon declared the law unconstitutional in a summary judgment handed down Wednesday. The law would have required doctors or their technicians to show pregnant women ultrasound images of their fetuses and discuss those images with the women before abortions were performed.

Planned Parenthood to open clinic in Ferndale, MI

Planned Parenthood to open clinic in Ferndale | Detroit Free Press | freep.com: Planned Parenthood is coming to Ferndale next week, and city officials are welcoming it with open arms. The new clinic, Planned Parenthood's first in Oakland County, will open April 2 and start seeing patients April 4. It's located at 23338 Woodward Ave., the old PrimeCare building. The Ferndale clinic won't provide abortions.

At the Ferndale City Council meeting Monday, clinic officials gave a short presentation about their decision. Rather than wait on the outcome of a yearlong legal battle to open their clinic in Auburn Hills, Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan CEO Lori Lamerand said they chose Ferndale because it was at the center of where they saw the most need in Oakland and Wayne Counties. Their clinics in Warren, Livonia and Detroit see about 5,000 Oakland County residents.

Cannibalistic Abortionist Illegally Dumps Abortion Records in Attempt to Go Green

Operation Rescue: On a tip from a local woman, the Kansas City Star has recovered over 1,000 abortion medical records from 2001-2002 that were illegally dumped in a public recycling bin by the discredited abortionist Krishna Rajanna. The files contained names, addresses and other sensitive information about abortion patients at his now closed Affordable Medical Center. The newspaper has since turned the documents over to the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts. The documents could be used as evidence in a possible criminal case.

The law requires that medical records be maintained for ten years, but some of the records discovered in the recycling bin were less than ten years old. Incredibly, Rajanna defended his dumping the records as an attempt to be environmentally friendly.
Rajanna lost his medical license and was forced to close his abortion clinic in 2005 after pro-life supporters obtained photographs of filthy conditions and appalling practices inside his abortion clinic and circulated them publicly. Kansas City Police Detective William Howard who conducted an investigation at Rajanna’s clinic submitted a statement to the state legislature testifying to conditions so horrific that he was sickened by them and that he was stunned by allegations of the staff that Rajanna engaged in cannibalism.

New China Study

Prolife OBGYNS – AAPLOG – American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians & Gynecologists » New China Study: There are several take-home messages from this study:

1) This study adds to the rapidly accumulating world literature on abortion and mental health. Even in a culture wherein abortion is widespread and is mandated by the government after women give birth once, the magnitude of psychological risks are comparable to those identified in other parts of the world (e.g., Australia, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, US).

2) The 1st trimester of a later pregnancy may be the most difficult time for women, who have experienced an induced abortion, since the majority of abortions occur early in pregnancy.

3) The psychological experience of abortion is more likely to be associated with long-term psychological distress than spontaneous abortion.

Editor: I might add a few thoughts. One relates to the idea that in China, not only is abortion "widespread and mandated," it is not stigmatized by a religious or pro-life community. Another factor could be related to the horror of forced abortion. Imagine the anxiety that the one-child policy exerts on every pregnancy. Finally, the experience of abortion in China may be more horrific -- I don't know, but that could be a significant factor.

The day I killed

LifeSiteNews: Abortion was my only option. My decision was solely based on selfishness. I didn’t want this baby. I couldn’t wait to get rid of the heaviness I felt just from carrying the awareness that a baby was growing inside of me.

A quick trip to Dallas ensued. I ducked like a coward when my boyfriend and I passed the picketers across from Planned Parenthood’s abortion center. I met conviction. Outside the clinic felt dark. Oppressive. Tormenting. It was excruciating. With cold sweats and heart racing, I could not wait to get inside. And relieved I was when we entered the welcoming area.

Oh, the deception! There was peace. Many were smiling. . . . It was there I killed. Was it a boy? Was it a girl? I don’t know. But this I do know – today, I love that child.

Chinese study finds link between previous abortion and depression among pregnant women

LifeSiteNews: The study found that pregnant women who had undergone an induced abortion of a previous pregnancy a year or more before their current pregnancy were 49% more likely to experience depression and 114% more likely to experience anxiety during their first trimester. If the abortion was more recent, the risk was 97% greater for anxiety in the first trimester, and 64% greater for depression during the second trimester. In comparison, the study found, women who had experienced a miscarriage did not appear to be at a greater risk for anxiety or depression than other pregnant women in the first and second trimester.

The researchers also cited a previous study which found that anxiety was particularly prevalent among post-abortive pregnant woman before the woman passed the gestational point at which the previous abortion had occurred.

Dr. Priscilla Coleman, a professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, called this finding “disconcerting,” noting that “all the major body structures are formed during the 1st trimester and stress hormones may potentially harm the developing fetus.” In an analysis of the study, Coleman also noted that the findings were consistent with those of previous studies.

NYC, Abortion Capital

NRO: Today the Chiaroscuro Foundation released an interactive map illustrating the abortion ratio by zip code in New York City from 2000 to 2009. The highest annual abortion ratio in any zip code in the period was 72.7 percent in Queens’s lightly populated 11430 in 2001, with 16 abortions and 6 live births. 11430 had the highest abortion ratio in the city three times over the period.

Other sparsely populated zip codes had ratios well above 60 percent on several occasions in the ten-year period, but zip codes with substantial populations and larger numbers of both abortions and births tend to top out at about a 60 percent abortion ratio and go down from there toward the citywide ratio of 41 to 43 percent.

The numbers Planned Parenthood doesn't want you to know

LiveActionNews: Planned Parenthood never delves any deeper into their abortion numbers, though. What are they hiding? Nearly 11% of Planned Parenthood’s overall clients obtain abortions. This is far from the deceptive “3%” notion they advocate.

Those abortion services garner Planned Parenthood millions upon of millions of dollars every single year. According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the average cost of a surgical abortion is $451. (Chemical abortions, which are becoming more commonplace, are more expensive than surgical abortions, so the following calculation is a very conservative estimate.) Abortion is Planned Parenthood’s cash cow.

Abortion makes up almost 14% of Planned Parenthood’s overall billion-dollar income.

Is it possible to change ourselves?

Greg Laurie:

Jesus said to her, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”

“No, Lord,” she said.

And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

Some might say, “How could Jesus pardon her? She was caught in the act. She wasn’t even a believer.” But I think she was. Why? Because she believed. I am not sure exactly when she believed, but probably right before she said, “No, Lord.” How long does it take to believe in God? Only an instant.

Jesus said four things to her that were very important and meant:
  • Her sins had been forgiven.
  • She did not have to fear the judgment day.
  • She had new power to face her problems.

Writer: "I love abortion"

Jessica DelBalzo writes for a pro-choice blog:
I love abortion. I don't accept it. I don't view it as a necessary evil. I embrace it. . . . And I bristle every time a fellow activist uses a trendy catch-phrase or rallying cry meant to placate pro-lifers. The first of these, “Make abortion safe, legal, and rare!” has been used for decades as a call for abortion rights.
Safe and legal are concepts I fully support, but rare is something I cannot abide. I understand the theoretical mindset: it is better for a woman to prevent an unwanted pregnancy than to bear the physical and financial burden of an abortion. While my own abortion involved very little pain and a minimal financial expense . . . even I can admit that using condoms or the pill is preferable to eight weeks of nausea and weight gain. [Emphasis added.] Contraception is a valuable tool.
However, there is no need to suggest that abortion be rare. To say so implies a value judgement, promoting the idea that abortion is somehow distasteful or immoral and should be avoided. . . . Nevertheless, . . . we must remember that extenuating circumstances like health, contraceptive failure, and rape mean that abortion will always be a normal, necessary, and reasonable choice for many women. As such, we must avoid stigmatizing it in any way. No woman benefits from even the vaguest insinuation that abortion is an immoral or objectionable option. . . . Terminating a pregnancy is not an unethical act, yet suggesting that abortion should be rare implies that there is something undesirable about having one.
Similarly, I've heard reproductive rights activists claim that “no one likes abortion,” in an attempt to find common ground with anti-choicers. While it may be true that no one likes the physical act of having an abortion (any more than she may like her yearly mammogram, life-saving chemotherapy, or temporarily uncomfortable dental surgery), a great many women like abortion itself. They like knowing that an unwanted pregnancy does not have to yield an unwanted child. They like knowing that their mental and physical health take precedence over an embryo. They like knowing that they own their bodies. . . .
Suggesting that abortion be “safe, legal, and rare,” and crowing that “no one likes abortion,” accomplishes nothing for women's rights. . . . What good is common ground if it must be achieved at the expense of women who have had or will have abortions? . . . [W]omen who value their freedom should be proud to say that they like abortion. In fact, they should venerate it whole-heartedly. Abortion is our last refuge, the one final, definitive instrument that secures our bodily autonomy. What's not to love?
Editor: So, contraception is a valuable tool in the prevention of nausea and weight gain, not the avoidance of abortion. This is one twisted sister.

Bank Stops Lending to Indian Doctors Who Own Abortion Clinic

Why Did Bank Stop Lending Money to 2 Indian Doctors Who Own Abortion Clinic?: Vijay Goyal, MD, and Vinod Goyal, MD, own a variety of operations in the Chicago area, including Michigan Avenue Center for Health, a surgical center providing abortions, and A.H. Employee Co., which held a note for revolving credit from Fifth Third Bank, letting the company easily secure loans up to a certain limit.

Fifth Third granted the revolving credit in March 2008 and renewed it yearly without hesitation through the March 2010 renewal. Then, according to the Goyals, Michael Kozak, their newly appointed loan officer, met with other bank officers and discussed the doctors' ownership of the abortion clinic. The officers, citing their religious views on abortion, decided to find ways to stop lending money to the Goyals, the doctors allege.

Planned Parenthood CEO Arrested in Texas

Tony Ray Thornton, 56, who serves as CEO and President of the Planned Parenthood Association of Lubbock, was arrested and jailed Monday afternoon for indecent exposure. Efforts by Lubbock area reporters to get a reaction from Planned Parenthood on Thornton’s arrest have been so far unsuccessful.

“As disgusting as this crime is, it is not unusual for men and women with sexual perversions to be involved in the abortion business. It is the abortion industry’s dirty little secret,” said Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor to Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. “We have documented a shocking number of abortionists and abortion workers that have criminal or disciplinary history that includes everything from rape to ‘crossing sexual boundaries.’ What is shocking is that these people are often permitted to remain in the field after being exposed as sex abusers and perverts. That puts patients at risk for abuse.”

Why do so many Christians not have a consistently biblical worldview?: A biblical worldview is one’s total conception of the world from a biblical standpoint. It’s a Christian’s basic belief system about the meaning of life, the nature of God, the source of truth, and other foundational concepts. Yet many Christians’ worldview is not biblically consistent. What we can learn from Kony 2012

CCBR: [C]ognitive dissonance plays a large role here. People are far more likely to get involved with stopping an injustice that they play no part in. It’s easy to get angry at Joseph Kony, because it is wildly unlikely that any of us will ever be guilty of his heinous crimes. It is far more likely that we will be involved somehow in an abortion, whether it be as a perpetrator, bystander, or simply a silent assenter. Directing our anger at someone like Joseph Kony seems a safe outlet for righteous indignation.

. . . When we see the success of other campaigns, it should strengthen our resolve to be better spokespeople. While we can recognize the hypocrisy inherent in a population inflamed against child-torture while willing to silently assent or actively endorse a more widespread practice right here at home, that instead should spur us to be as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves. The Kony campaign is exposing the injustice, showing us pictures of mutilated children and graphically detailing the horrors being inflicted upon these innocents. They are confronting the culture, tirelessly petitioning the politicians while at the same time educating the public by going to the schools, speaking at universities and taking their message to the streets. They are making their message impossible to ignore.

And so must we. We have a much harder road ahead of us. We are not battling foreign demons, but our own cultural demons. Charity starts a home, yes, but many people would prefer to look elsewhere. Quite simply, we must make sure that they do not. We must make sure that they cannot. When I see a campaign with the success of Kony, it leads me to one conclusion: We have to work harder.

Untreated depression and antidepressants may both affect unborn child

Untreated depression and antidepressants may both affect unborn child - The Washington Post: How might an unborn child’s development be affected if the mother takes antidepressants during pregnancy? The study found that, among the women with untreated depression, fetal growth overall was slower compared with the fetuses of all other study participants. Among women who took SSRIs, fetal weight gain was not different but head sizes were the smallest, on average; their babies also were twice as likely to be born prematurely. No link was found between symptoms of depression and below-normal birth weight.

My Abortion Was The Best Decision Of My Life

My Abortion Was The Best Decision Of My Life: "What it comes down to is I had an abortion. It was not a decision I wanted to make, but h*ll, it was the best decision of my life… and this is coming from someone who is the queen of bad decisions, so I know a good one when I see it. And my life, in all its flaws and indiscretions, is proof of it. In other words, I would not have it any other way."

A heart for witness

We often pray that clients will have listening ears and soft hearts for the message of life and salvation in Christ. But Colleen Tronson of Metro Women's Center in Crystal, MN, reflects that it's our own hearts that need to be soft toward our clients, and our own ears that need to be tuned in to their needs:
I have been reading A Retrospect (page 37; also available on Project Gutenbergby J. Hudson Taylor, the missionary to China. He writes that he had been ministering to a man in the hospital for many weeks, and he had tried to share the Lord with the man but to no avail. He was becoming discouraged and decided that maybe by witnessing to the man he was causing the man's heart to harden to the Lord. So he decided not to continue to talk to the man and prepared to leave his hospital room without speaking of the Lord.

As he was preparing to leave the room, he thought, "Ephraim is joined to his idols, let him alone." He looked at the man, who was very surprised that Taylor had not tried to speak with him, as was his usual practice. Taylor then, with tears, started to share his heart with the man and found him open and receptive to the Lord. The man received the Lord, and Taylor was overwhelmed with joy.

While working in China, Taylor later reflected on this incident and wrote: "I have often thought since then, in connection with this case, and with the work of God generally, that
'he that goes forth weeping, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.' Perhaps if there were more of that intense distress for souls that leads to tears we would see more of the results we desire. Sometimes while we are complaining of the hardness of the hearts of those we are seeking to benefit, that it may be the hardness of our own hearts, and our own feeble apprehension of the solemn reality of eternal things, that could be the true cause of our want of success."

I believe I experienced a similar event this week. I have had a heavy heart for one dear woman. I was despairing of her ever turning to the Lord, when I just decided to just pull out all the stops and pour out my heart and concern for her soul. Surprisingly, she was receptive, and I think we have made progress! In my mind and heart, I was convicted about being focused on the wrong thing: the hardness of heart, when I should be focusing on the tenderizing nature of the Word of God. Thank the Lord for this new lesson in not giving up on someone.

Grant Opportunity: $1 Billion Commitment For Ministries

Here-4-You Consulting: There’s a new Christian foundation on the block and they have promised to give away $1 Billion in grant funding to organizations with programs for orphans, unborn, widows, church planting, leadership development, evangelism, and discipleship!

The Covenant Values Foundation announced their inauguration coupled with a pledge to give $1 billion in financial support on March 7, 2012. Foundation trustee Carey V. Brown explains “Through this monumental pledge, which can only be made with God’s participation, we commit to making a marked difference and aim to inspire others to a lifetime of giving.” The foundation mentions, “Although we primarily fund Christian ministries, to a limited extent we do consider selected projects which improve the quality of life for Orphans, the Unborn, and Widows (James 1:27).”

The website also offers a link to begin the foundation’s grant application process. After answering the initial screening questions, if the applicant qualifies they are invited to submit a letter of inquiry to the foundation. Covenant Values Foundation has pledged as its first grants over $650,000 to be issued just this month. A $25,000 grant commitment has already been made to On Point, a youth development program that help teens abstain from risky behavior.

New Study from China: More Evidence of Increased Psychological Risks Associated with Abortion

New Study from China: More Evidence of Increased Psychological Risks Associated with Abortion | Wecare: Huang and colleagues, affiliated with the Anhui Medical College in China, just published a sophisticated large scale study in the Bulletin of Clinical Psychopharmacology entitled “The Impact of Prior Abortion on Anxiety and Depression Symptoms during a Subsequent Pregnancy: Data From a Population-Based Cohort Study." Data were derived from the Anhui Birth Defects and Child Development Cohort Study and the sample consisted of 6,887 women, 3,264 (47.6%) of whom had experienced at least one abortion.

Results indicated that women with a history of induced abortion a year or more prior, were 49% more likely to experience depression and 114% more likely to experience anxiety in the 1st trimester of a subsequent pregnancy, when compared to women who had not experienced an induced abortion.

Dr. Priscilla Coleman Responds to Recent Media Attacks | NRL News Today: "We responsibly addressed this error and the paper was never retracted by the journal. Interestingly the dozens of mainstream U.S. journalists who pounced on this situation and irresponsibly described the results as unreliable, invalid, debunked, etc., were absolutely silent when the meta-analysis was published last fall. This meta-analysis appeared in one of the most prestigious psychiatry journals in the world and the quantitative review incorporating data from 877,181 women offered the largest estimate of mental health risks associated with abortion in the world literature.

"A corrected error in a single study that reported associations between abortion and mental health is apparently more news worthy than a major meta-analysis."

Contraceptive pill Yasmin continues to stir debate

Contraceptive pill Yasmin continues to stir debate - The National: Following concerns that contraceptive pills containing the synthetic hormone drospirenone carry an increased risk of blood clots, panel members of the US Food and Drug Administration met in December to vote on whether the benefits outweighed the risks. They voted 15-11 in favour. However, research carried out by the Washington Monthly and the British Medical Journal has since found that four of the panel members had links to Bayer, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures two of the best known drospirenone-containing pills, Yaz and Yasmin.

Their relationships with Bayer were known to the FDA at the time of the review, but were not considered to be a cause for a "conflict of interest." All four panel members voted in support of drospirenone-containing pills. Meanwhile, another panel member with known concerns about drospirenone-containing products was, only days before the vote, prevented from taking part due to a "conflict of interest."

Obama administration to end funding for Texas health program over state's abortion law

FoxNews: The federal government will stop funding a Texas health program that serves 130,000 low-income women because of a state law that bars abortion-affiliated clinics from getting public money, a top U.S. health official said Friday. The federal money, which covers 90 percent of the state's $40 million program, will be phased out between May and September because the law violates federal regulations requiring that women have a choice in medical care, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said during a trip to Houston. That means the Women's Health Program will join a long list of programs nationwide on the chopping block because of their affiliations with Planned Parenthood or other groups that offer abortions.

The announcement came a day after Texas Gov. Rick Perry pledged to find state money to keep the program afloat, though details remain scarce about where the money would come from. Texas suffered massive spending cuts last year due to a $15 billion deficit, though a state health services official said Friday that Texas would prefer to increase its deficit than completely eliminate the program. Perry blasted Sebelius' announcement, insisting Medicaid rules give states the right to determine which clinics are qualified to provide women's health care.

When States Abuse Women

When States Abuse Women - NYTimes.com: “It’s state-sanctioned abuse,” said Dr. Curtis Boyd, a Texas physician who provides abortions [speaking of Texas' ultrasound law]. “It borders on a definition of rape. Many states describe rape as putting any object into an orifice against a person’s will. Well, that’s what this is. A woman is coerced to do this, just as I’m coerced.”

Editor: I normally admire Nicholas Kristof's advocacy on behalf of the oppressed, but here he serves as a shill for the oppressors. You'd think he could come up with a quote from an actual "victim" of the new law, but he only cites Curtis Boyd, an abortionist who stands to lose income, and a representative from the Guttmacher Institute, Planned Parenthood's "research" arm.

The lawsuit alleges that Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas, now known as Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, filed at least 87,075 false, fraudulent, or ineligible claims with the Texas Women’s Health Program. As a result, Planned Parenthood wrongfully received and retained reimbursements totaling more than $5.7 million.

The Other Invisible Children – The Spirit of Kony is Alive In America Also

Many of the people who are getting involved with Invisible Children refuse to confront the invisible victims of the abortion holocaust. Bryan Kemper enumerates their excuses:
I don’t want to get involved with a political issue.
I know it is wrong but it is not for me to tell someone else what to do.
At least they won’t have to grow up in this world.
Abortion is inevitable, so we might as well keep it safe and legal.
We don’t know the parents’ situation; maybe they can’t afford a baby.
That is cool that you stand up, I just have other things I am called to do.
I don’t want to judge anyone.
The fetus is not “really” alive yet.
We just need to talk about Jesus, instead of political issues.
I can’t deal with abortion; it depresses me to think about it.
Abortion is too controversial; I don’t want to offend anyone.
I don’t believe in legislating morality.
These excuses are used not only by pro-choice people, but also those who claim to be pro-life or Christian. "They just don’t want to be vocal about it. The problem is that abortion is seen as controversial, and the Invisible Children project is not."

Persecution Fantasies Fuel Media Portraits of Abortionists

Persecution Fantasies Fuel Media Portraits of Abortionists | NRL News Today: Pro-abortionists have done everything humanly possible to deny the right of conscience to aspiring physicians and to force med schools to teach abortion “techniques.” They have formed organizations dedicated to recruiting medical students and young doctors with the goal of turning their plowshares into swords.

Yet their numbers still have not grown. Maybe there is something else that explains their reluctance to become purveyors of violence. Like the fact that to many doctors (as even abortion advocates admit) abortion is for hacks. Like the fact that abortionists are reluctant to tell their friends what they do, not out of fear, but out of knowledge that even “pro-choicers” blanche in their presence.
