The Beauty Of Biblical Balance

Themelios | Article: The Beauty Of Biblical Balance - The Gospel Coalition: Balance is not always a virtue. For example, when Scripture commands us to love God with our whole being (Deut 6:4-5; Mark 12:29-30), it does not add, "Of course, all things in moderation: one must balance love for God with other priorities." Applied in the wrong contexts, the appeal for balance may be a mask for moral indifference and spiritual compromise. But let me assume that we have heeded the warning and turn to some of the different axes around which we need to maintain balance.

Former cop paid for abortion to hush up 15-year-old

Former cop paid for abortion to hush up 15-year-old girl, police say | LifeSiteNews.com: The office of Sierra County Sheriff Joe Baca said Noah Pestak met the minor after he picked her up as a runaway while serving in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. After learning of her pregnancy, Pestak paid $425 for an abortion, scheduled to take place on May 23 or 24 – but the teen changed her mind after missing the appointment. Prosecutor Scot Key said Pestak hoped the abortion would “get rid of potential evidence” of a criminal sexual relationship with a minor. The age of consent in New Mexico is 16, or 18 if the adult is in a position of authority.

Ex-prosecutor: Victim's miscarriage won't affect homicide charges in Colo. theater shooting

Ex-prosecutor: Victim's miscarriage won't affect homicide charges in Colo. theater shooting: A former prosecutor said Sunday the man accused of shooting and killing 12 people and wounding 58 others at a Colorado movie theater won't face an additional homicide charge after one of the victims who was critically injured suffered a miscarriage. Defense attorney Karen Steinhauser, a former prosecutor and current adjunct professor at the University of Denver, said homicide charges in Colorado only apply to those "who had been born and alive. Legally, it doesn't fit the definition."

The family of Ashley Moser, who was critically wounded in the July 20 shooting in Aurora, said in a statement Saturday she is recovering from surgery but the trauma caused the miscarriage. Moser suffered gunshot wounds to her neck and abdomen. Her daughter, 6-year-old Veronica Moser-Sullivan, was the youngest person killed in the attack.

Editor: Interesting to read the headlines from around the world on this story. About half refer to this loss at 8 weeks gestation as a "miscarriage" and half as an "unborn baby."

Induced abortion and maternal suicide

Prolife OBGYNS – AAPLOG – American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians & Gynecologists » Induced abortion and maternal suicideFor those who believe in "evidence based medicine," the evidence for abortion associated complications is abundant. Increased mental health effects (depression, PTSD, anxiety), preterm birth, breast cancer, placenta previa, and SUICIDE all have a well documented evidence trail.

SUICIDE?? Did you not know about abortion and suicide? You do now. Two huge studies are noted on our website, both with prospective data, computer based. The Finnish study by Gisler includes 697,000 pregnancies, and looks at maternal health status one year after delivery and one year after abortion. The suicide rate is six times higher after abortion. A second study by Reardon in southern California, involving 173,000 pregnant women over an 8 year period, showed a the suicide rate for women who had abortions to be 3.1 times higher than women who delivered.

Skin cream made from aborted fetal skin cells

KLTV: Back in 2004, a married couple in Switzerland became pregnant. The couple's fetus was diagnosed with posterior encephalocele. The brain was deformed, the brain stem was underdeveloped and the retinas were not formed correctly.

Doctors said the fetus wouldn't survive, so the parents decided to terminate the pregnancy. But before doing so, the parents sent some of the fetus' cells to a cell bank. And cloned proteins from those cells were used to make NeoCutis skin cream.

. . . "Most physicians aren't going to know for sure how this was developed in its early stages," said Dr. Charles Kay, bioethicist at Wofford College. "It's important to note that fetal tissues, stem cells - these are not ingredients in these preparations. These are simply the origins of the cells which produce the proteins, and are in turn, the ingredients."

. . . NeoCutis is quite blunt about the use of fetal skin cells on their website. . . . The letters "PSP" on the front of the tube indicate the cream was made from "processed skin cell proteins."

Identical twins start to differ in the womb

BioNews - Identical twins start to differ in the womb, study shows: Despite sharing the same womb, identical twins are born with different alterations to their DNA that can affect the activity of individual genes.
These modifications, known as epigenetic markers, are thought to be caused by environmental factors. The process adds chemical tags to the DNA, which alters a gene's activity, but not its sequence.

Although previous studies have shown that identical twins do have different sets of epigenetic markers, it was thought that the changes occurred after birth, when the twins experience different environments. However, in this first analysis of the epigenetic profiles of newborn human babies, differences are already apparent straight after birth.

'Twins, like the rest of us, sit in their own amniotic sac and have their own individual experiences', lead researcher Dr Jeffrey Craig told International Business Times. The study, published in Genome Research, suggests that even small differences in womb environment, such as availability of nutrients or the influence of the placenta and umbilical cord, could be responsible.

How do you define purity?

How do you define purity? - Blog - Eternal Perspective Ministries: The greatest argument for sexual purity is God’s holiness. If we wish to be godly, we must wish to live in sexual purity.

This doesn’t mean being anti-sex. God has created our sexual identities as a gift. But a sexual relationship is to take place only in that sacred relationship of marriage between one man and one woman. We are sexual beings, whether married or not, but sex is reserved only for the marriage relationship. God is holy in his view of sex in marriage, and expects us to be holy, too.

Woman dead after 2nd trimester abortion in Chicago

Operation Rescue: A CBS news affiliate in Chicago is reporting that a 24-year old woman died Friday, July 20, 2012, after receiving an abortion from a Planned Parenthood clinic located at 18 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago, Illinois. The woman was transported from the Loop Health Center Planned Parenthood abortion clinic to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:20 P.M. The Chicago Sun-Times has identified the woman as Tonya Reaves of Chicago.

An autopsy conducted Saturday determined that she died from hemorrhage following a Dilation and Evacuation abortion. The D&E abortion method is one employed in pregnancies that have advanced beyond the first trimester. In involves opening the cervix and removing the pre-born baby by dismembering him or her. The Loop Health Center Planned Parenthood advertizes abortions up to 18 weeks.

. . . This incident follows a report published in the Chicago Tribune in June, 2011, that took to task abortionists in Illinois for failing to report abortion complications and exposed the fact that some abortionists did not report complications at all, in violation of the law. At that time, Illinois officials made no attempt to enforce abortion laws in that state. While the name of the abortionist responsible for this patient death is currently unknown, Planned Parenthood’s most recent 990 Tax Forms list abortionist Caroline M. Hoke as its Medical Director.

Bills cut Planned Parenthood funding

LifeSiteNews: Rep. Denny Rehberg  (R-MT) gave Planned Parenthood and NARAL plenty to complain about when he unveiled his Committee’s spending plan for the next fiscal year. To the delight of most taxpayers, Planned Parenthood would be the bill’s biggest casualty. With the blessing of Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY), conservatives took an axe to the organization’s federal gravy train—zeroing out every last penny to America’s largest abortion business. Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) tried to reinstate the funds in today’s mark-up, but failed 9-5. In fact, under the leadership of Rep. Rehberg, the Committee went the other direction adding a bundle of other pro-life policies

The Chairman also took the opportunity to attach the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act (ANDA) to the broader bill, which would help end discrimination against pro-lifers in the health care industry. If it survives, ANDA would give medical workers legal recourse if they’re sidelined for their pro-life views.

Here are some of the questions they asked in their "fishing expedition":
  • What affiliations do you have including church groups?
  • How long have you known your wife?
  • What belief system makes you believe in your cause?
  • What is your goal in protesting?
  • Do you know why people would make complaints against you?
  • Are there friends of yours or people you’re connected with that you could confidentially tell us are aggressive or abrasive? “Don’t be afraid to tell us.”
  • Are you involved in activism in Austin, since we noticed some entries on abortionwiki?
  • They were REALLY interested in the connection to Jill Stanek – details of internship, New Zealand speaking tour visit, did you get your activist and pro-life ideas from her? Did she train or teach you? Did you meet Jill before or after you became involved in the movement? Was it Jill who “fired you up” to become so active in the movement?
  • They were overly nice saying he wasn’t in trouble and feel free to tell us anything. Encouraged him to keep going back out there, that they represent both sides. ++they are protecting his freedom of speech++ is what they kept saying.
  • They said their task force that deals with these abortion cases also handles Hate Crimes and White Supremacy. Odd grouping with pro-lifers.
  • They knew he was an immigrant. They said a felony on his record could/would get him deported. “You wouldn’t want to be apart from your wife and newborn.”

The apostle John almost always talks about "believing" in the present tense because it is something we do continually, not something we did once in the past (e.g. John 3:36; 20:27-28; 9:36-38; 1 John 5:13). The posture begins at a moment, but it persists for a lifetime.

Get to Know: Horatio Robinson Storer, M.D. (1830-1922)

Horatio Robinson Storer, M.D. (1830-1922)Horatio Storer is an early American gynecologist. He is even better known for the "physicians' crusade against abortion" which he started and carried out with the assistance of the American Medical Association.

Most people today are surprised to learn that induced abortion was common among married Protestant women in the United States in the 1850s. The "physicians' crusade" led to the passage of laws in almost every state that protected the fetus from conception. These physicians, and the new abortion laws they worked to create, taught people that the fetus was alive prior to "quickening," the point in the pregnancy when movements of the fetus were first felt by the woman.

UK doctors routinely broke law on abortion

NHS doctors routinely broke law on abortion | News | The Christian Institute: Doctors at 14 NHS hospitals have been systematically breaking the law by pre-signing abortion consent forms, an investigation by the health watchdog has found.

Under the current law, two doctors must sign a referral form before a woman can go ahead with an abortion. But an investigation by the Care Quality Commission discovered hospitals using pre-signed forms, or forms on which the approval signatures had been photocopied, thereby allowing the second doctor to make the decision on their own.

Fathers, Don’t Abort Your Daughters

Patheos: So you learned the baby you helped to conceive is a girl and not a boy. Already frightened by the idea of fatherhood, already concerned about all the hardships and sacrifices parenting entails, already disoriented by the potential radical change this requires in the way you envision your future, you feel now — even if only slightly — more inclined to want your partner to abort.

. . . So now you’re fantasizing about an abortion again, how one visit to a clinic could give you back the future you wanted, how you could escape from the whole situation and all the pressures it brought with it. You don’t feel ready for this. Your heart does not feel big enough. You’re still so selfish, so lazy, so irresponsible — and those are the things you like about yourself.

Don’t do it. Do not do it. Your daughter is waiting for you. She will expand and soften your heart. She will make you a better man. A daughter too is a blessing beyond measure. Give yourself to this, and she will make you into a protector and provider.

Editor: In an earlier article, the accused admitted setting the fire because he has a "strong disbelief in abortion." Baptists for Life's beliefs equally strong, but perhaps more consistent. We oppose the use of violence as a pro-life tactic. See also Should We Use Violence to Fight Abortion?

Disability and the divorce rate

Fertility Drugs Mean Breast Cancer Risk? Depends on If You Get Pregnant

Fertility Drugs Mean Breast Cancer Risk? Depends on If You Get Pregnant, Study Says - ABC News: Scientists have been concerned about the effects of fertility drugs in recent years, citing a possible relationship between the hormones altered by the drugs and those implicated in breast cancer. Studies attempting to pinpoint the link between fertility drugs and cancer risk have varied widely in their conclusions. Some have found a reduction in cancer risk, some an increased risk. Others found no connection at all.

But researchers at the National Institutes of Health found that although the drugs seem to reduce breast cancer risk in young women, the risk goes up when they get pregnant.

Abortions Have Made Life Better for Millions Of Men: It's About Time to Speak Up in Support

Alternet: One in three women in America will have an abortion at some point in her life. There are roughly twice as many abortions as LASIK procedures performed in any given year. Given that overwhelming prevalence, it's high time for women who have had abortions to come out, step up, stand by their choices -- and refuse delivery on all attempts to burden them with regret or shame.

. . . But through all of this fresh energy and determination, there's one set of big, deep voices that's conspicuously missing. We need to hear from the men, too.

For every single woman who's ever had an abortion, there's a man somewhere in the story. For every woman who was able to delay motherhood until a better moment, or improve her existing kids' chances by not enlarging her brood, or end a pregnancy that was doomed to end in tragedy and pain, there's also a man out there who is not a father today -- or is a better father to the kids he has -- because a woman he was involved with had the means to make this decision.
