IRS intimidates pro-life group

IRS intimidates pro-life group (OneNewsNow.com): The Internal Revenue Service has had a change of heart regarding the Texas pro-life group, Christian Voices for Life, after issuing the organization a challenging letter.

The IRS fired off the letter to the pro-life group with some disturbing questions. '[They asked] whether they did educational activity on both sides of the issues, whether they were trying to block people entering a medical clinic during 40 Days for Life or a Life Chain event, and whether members of the group had attempted to talk to someone trying to enter a medical clinic -- as if there's anything wrong with that,' their attorney says.

What was wrong with the IRS letter, the attorney explains, is that the questions had nothing to do with an application for tax-exempt status. The Thomas More Society proceeded to fire off a strongly worded letter to the IRS -- and it got results. 'It was just a few days later Christian Voices for Life received a letter confirming that their tax exemption had been granted.'

Dad held on abuse charges

Dad held on abuse charges » Local News » SalemNews.com, Salem, MA: When his wife told him she was 12 weeks pregnant last summer, Dario Finkel did not take the news well, court papers say, throwing his barefoot and pajama-clad wife out of their Marblehead apartment and refusing to let her back until she either had an abortion or a miscarriage. She didn't, and eventually they got back together.

But after their son, Michael, was born, Finkel was just as upset, allegedly admitting to investigators that he had shaken the baby at least three times in the past and once put his hand over the baby's face to get him to stop crying, all before last week's alleged assault on the 7-week-old infant. He is charged with attempted murder, child endangerment, and assault and battery causing injury to a child.

UN ignores 3 million stillbirths because of abortion politics

Nearly three million children die every year during labor and delivery or in the weeks just before birth, more than all deaths by HIV/AIDS. The UN does not even count them. A new study in the prestigious medical journal Lancet says abortion politics is one reason why.

About 98% of the 2.6 million yearly stillbirths occur in low- and middle-income countries, mostly due to complications during delivery. One of the reasons stillbirth remains “in the shadows,” is because of pro-abortion sentiments, the report says. The World Health Organization (WHO) does not count unborn children who die before 28 weeks as stillborn, even though stillbirth of viable 22-week babies is common in the developed world. Shoring the data gap could lead to a 40% increase in the number of recorded stillbirths.

Lancet’s editor, Richard Horton, says not counting these children denies parents “the gravitas their grief demanded,” but “when one considers that in many countries abortion is allowed up to and sometimes beyond 24 weeks, one can begin to understand authorities’ reluctance to pursue the point.” Horton nevertheless finds no dilemma: “Every woman has the right to a safe abortion…but she also has the right to have the death of her [wanted] baby counted.”

One of Horton’s strongest adversaries in his quest to advance better data has been the pro-abortion lobby. They opposed him last year when he published an independent study challenging WHO data and methodology on maternal health statistics they had been using to promote abortion.

Russia considering abortion restrictions to slow population collapse

Russia considering abortion restrictions to slow population collapse | LifeSiteNews.com: Russia has the highest rate of abortion in the world at 53 abortions per 1000 women between 15 and 44, according to UN statistics. Abortion is a key issue in Russia’s plummeting population that has seen a drop from 148.5 million in 1995 to 143 million today.

The country’s own statistics show that there are 1022 abortions committed for every 1000 births. Official numbers show between 1.6 and 1.7 million abortions per year, but unofficial estimates put it at closer to 6 million per year, 90 percent of which are done, as in most of the developed world, at the woman’s request for “social,” not medical reasons.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said last week 1.5 trillion rubles will be invested in "demography projects" to impvoed the average life expectancy and to boost the birth rate by 25-30 percent over three years.

New study confirms that some contraceptive pills riskier than others

New study confirms that some contraceptive pills riskier than others - Telegraph: Women taking so-called 'third generation' contraceptive pills, those developed in the 1980s, are up to three times more likely to suffer a blood clot than those who use older varieties, according to new research based on British and American records. With no real other advantages of the newer drug, scientists said it would be 'prudent' to make the older pills the 'first line choice.' Scientists say doctors should prescribe pills that contain the hormone levonorgestrel, rather than drospirenone.

Russian bill would limit abortions, help pregnant women

Lawmakers in the lower house of the Russian parliament are working on legislation that they hope will cut the more than 1 million officially counted abortions taking place annually in the nation. The bill makes it so abortion would no longer be qualified as a medical service under the nation’s government-run health system, thus allowing physicians to opt out of doing them. The measure would also increase the monthly payments to pregnant women from the current 2,000 rubles ($70) a month until birth. The legislation could also make it illegal to do abortions in the second half of pregnancy. LifeNews

Let this be the last word on the blog this Good Friday

Tim Jackson writes: On this good-est of Fridays, we need to focus on what perfect love is all about.

Sacrifice.

You see, whenever I question whether or not I’m truly loved, I mean deeply loved for who I am–warts and all, there is one place I’m always drawn back to. One moment in time that is undeniably clear. It’s historical. It’s believable. And it’s true. And I go back and touch it to remind myself, “This is real! This is core!”

Where do I go?

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us

This is the bedrock of my faith–my touchstone. There is a place in time and space where God proved to me that he loves me. It’s the cross. It’s the day when perfect love collided with perfect holiness and justice was satisfied. And the Innocent died for the guilty. God punished his Son in my place.

Whenever I reflect on that singular truth, I’m undone. I’m left speechless. I have nothing to say. All my arguments, objections, doubts, and fears are crushed in the embrace of God’s overwhelming love for me.

I am loved.

And so are you.

Change happens: The long road to an abortion-free nation

Got an email the other day from the CDC, touting comprehensive smoke-free laws:
It seems so normal now, but only in the last ten years have a majority of Americans been able to enjoy smoke-free air at work, in restaurants and in other public buildings. It has not happened all at once, but little by little over the past decade. And this trend continues to grow, changing the way we all think about smoking and saving lives and money spent in health care costs annually. What brought this societal change? Comprehensive smoke-free laws.
Take heart, my friends fighting for abortion-free laws. They can, and do, work.

For if we say the unborn bear the image of God, so also do those men and women who are engaging in the destruction of the unborn. Bearing the image of God is not due to innocence, for if it were, we also would have lost ours. It is due to God's love and mercy toward us and His desire to know us and be known by us. Every person, no matter their sins or past, has the opportunity to do this through Jesus Christ. It is through His passion we find our compassion.

Fact: 96% of Pregnant Women at Planned Parenthood Get Abortions

Fact: 96% of Pregnant Women at Planned Parenthood Get Abortions | LifeNews.com: Looking at a 2010 fact sheet from their own website, Planned Parenthood provided 324, 008 abortion services, 2,405 adoption referrals, and 9,433 prenatal services in 2008. When calculated, abortion services accounted for 96% of the services provided to pregnant women.

Here is the math for those who still doubt:

2,405 +9,433 = 11,838 (services to pregnant women which are not abortions)

11,838 / 324,008 = .036 = 3.6%

100% – 3.6% = 96.4% (of services provided to pregnant women are abortions)

While this is an astounding number, the actual number of abortions that Planned Parenthood provides may actually be more than that!

Editor: Keep in mind that another service PP provides is pregnancy tests -- more than 1.1 million a year according to the fact sheet. Not every woman is pregnant, but many are; not every PP provides abortion, but they refer women to other providers. So far more than 324,008 abortions are facilitated by PP.

Planned Parenthood CEO Can’t Defend Abortion

Planned Parenthood CEO Still Can’t Defend Abortion: On her April 13th MSNBC show, Rachel Maddow made the following observation: “The thing that no one really seems to be saying is, hey, it’s also really important that Planned Parenthood is able to provide access to abortion. Do you think that is emerging as a political problem here, that people – there aren’t enough people standing up specifically for the abortion rights side of this fight?”

Maddow was speaking to Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood. As she always does, Richards dodged the question by changing the subject. “Well, I think folks are very familiar with Planned Parenthood that we provide full reproductive health care in America. And that’s really important,” she answered. “But I think what is important, too, Rachel, that folks understand that literally what the House of Representatives and what Speaker Boehner are trying to do is not end abortion services. They are literally trying to eliminate birth control and cancer screenings for women.”

Manchin wants more auditing of Title X funds

Manchin wants more auditing of Title X funds - NewsandSentinel.com | News, Sports, Jobs, Community Information - Parkersburg News and Sentinel: The Title X Transparency and Verification Act would increase public scrutiny for family planning funding and add transparency to agencies' use of the money, Sen. Joe Manchin, D-WV, said. Under the legislation, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services would post independent audits online for any agencies receiving money under Title X. Existing law prohibits federal funds from being used for abortions and requires independent audits verifying compliance, but the audits are not readily available to the public, Manchin said.

Planned Parenthood expansion plans

Planned Parenthood tells of expansion - Omaha.com: Planned Parenthood of the Heartland announced intentions Thursday to open six more health centers in Nebraska and six more in Iowa. Jill June, president of the Des Moines-based Planned Parenthood affiliate that serves Iowa and Nebraska, told a gathering in Omaha that the agency has more than $7 million committed to an $11.5 million capital campaign. She hopes to complete the expansion effort within the next five years.

Omaha has two clinics and Lincoln has two, although the agency will soon close its O Street center in Lincoln and open a new one at an unnamed location elsewhere in Lincoln. Planned Parenthood currently has no other clinics in Nebraska. The plan calls for health centers to open in Fremont, Grand Island, Norfolk, Kearney, Hastings and North Platte. In Iowa, which currently has more than 20 clinics, Planned Parenthood would add health centers in Carter Lake, Mason City, Clinton, Ottumwa, Muscatine and Marshalltown.

Get to Know: Living Hope PCC and Maternity Home in Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, young women who become pregnant out of wedlock, regardless of the circumstances, are often turned out of their homes. Most of them are not much older than children themselves. Many of the women currently residing at Living Hope Ethiopia were working as domestic servants and were raped either by a stranger or their employer and were turned away from their homes and livelihood when the resulting pregnancy became obvious. These women are young, poor, uneducated, and without family support. There are no safety nets for them. They have no shelters, no ministries or government programs to help them. There is a razor thin line between survival and starvation.

Before there was a Living Hope Ethiopia there were only three options for these women - acquiring an illegal, heartbreaking, and dangerous abortion, relinquishing the child to an orphanage, or watching their child slowly die from disease and malnutrition. Living Hope Ministries in Adama, Ethiopia is the first and only maternity home and Crisis Pregnancy Center in the country. Here, women receive shelter, nourishing food, unconditional love, education and life skills, and the ability to earn money that will provide them and their babies with a future and a hope.

The eloquence of Chris Smith

There is no organization in America, perhaps even on earth, that stabs, dismembers, decapitates, or chemically poisons more unborn children to death, than Planned Parenthood. For the innocent and perhaps inconvenient child in the womb, a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic is a house of horrors – a place where abortionists brutally destroy unborn children and deceive and hurt their mothers. Another NAF Abortion Clinic Transports Injured Woman Via Ambulance

Another NAF Abortion Clinic Transports Injured Woman Via Ambulance :Operation Rescue: Sirens could be heard from far away by pro-life witnesses as an ambulance rushed to the Presidential Women’s Center abortion clinic in West Palm Beach, Florida, last Saturday, April 9, 2011, to transport a woman to the hospital for emergency care.

The abortion clinic offers abortions through 23 weeks gestation and is a member of the National Abortion Federation (NAF), an affiliation of abortionists with notoriously poor health and safety records. This was the third reported emergency transport witnessed by pro-life activists from an NAF abortion clinic over the weekend of April 8-9, 2011.

One young girl, one unborn baby, and one very important life-changing decision

One young girl, one unborn baby, and one very important life-changing decision | SJA Today.org: Oftentimes, pro-choice supporters make statements like, “You do not know what it is like to grow up in poverty or with alcoholic parents,” or “No child would want to be born into poverty or into a family of alcoholics.” Well, I have lived that life, and, I must admit, if given the choice of having a family with money and no addiction versus the life I had, I would probably choose the first option. But, if given the choice between the life I had in Russia and that of a death sentence, I would choose the life I had.

State of Abortion Clinic Regulations in the States

FRC Blog » State of Abortion Clinic Regulations in the States: Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC) exist in all 50 states across the US. They are health care facilities that perform surgical procedures not requiring overnight hospitalization. They can also be known as “outpatient” facilities, performing pain management, diagnostic, and other minor surgical procedures. Under this definition it makes sense that an abortion facility would fall under the category of an ASC and should thus be regulated as one, however, prior to the 2011 legislative session only one state, Missouri, defined and regulated their abortion clinics as Ambulatory Surgical Centers. This lack of regulation of a procedure that has been documented to pose health risks to women is a dangerous oversight which needs correcting.

Sexual abstinence -- numbers up, but funding down

Sexual abstinence -- numbers up, but funding down (OneNewsNow.com): 'It looks like truth is beginning to win the day when it comes to teens and sex,' responds Valerie Huber, executive director of the National Abstinence Education Association. '...I think [they] are beginning to learn that they need more than latex to protect themselves and they're choosing to wait -- [that's] very good news.' And that data, she argues, renders 'null and void' the typical claims by anti-abstinence advocacy groups that abstinence is unrealistic.

Abstinence on the rise among teens, young adults

Abstinence on the rise among teens, young adults - Kansas State Collegian - News: On her left hand, Kelby Burton, a sophomore in architectural engineering, wears a sterling silver ring inscribed with a delicate heart and a superimposed cross.
Some might guess she is married, but instead of representing a lifelong commitment to another person, Burton's ring symbolizes a vow to God.

'I have a promise between God and I that I will remain pure, abstinent until marriage,' she said. 'The ring is there to remind me of it.' And, according to new data released in March by the National Center for Health Statistics Burton is not alone.

The National Survey of Family Growth showed an uptick in abstinence among 15- to-24-year-olds. It revealed 29.9 percent of men had not had any sexual contact ever, while 28.3 percent of women had abstained.

BREAKING: House passes bill defunding Planned Parenthood

BREAKING: House passes budget gutting D.C. abortions, bill defunding Planned Parenthood | LifeSiteNews.com: The House passed a separate measure defunding Planned Parenthood, a provision that was cut from the original House budget in negotiations last week.

The vote on the budget bill was 260-167 with 59 Republicans voting against the budget measure, and 89 Democrats voting for it. Some Republican lawmakers had vowed to vote against the budget bill because some sources had claimed that the nearly $40 billion in cuts agreed to by the Obama administration were mostly illusory.

In addition to defunding D.C. abortions, the Continuing Resolution reduced funding for the United Nations Population Fund, which investigations have found to be complicit with China’s coercive one-child policy. The bill also reduces international and domestic family planning funds to Bush-era levels.

Latest on defunding Planned Parenthood

Latest on defunding Planned Parenthood votes/chatter - Jill Stanek: "Sources close to the situation told me yesterday they don’t believe Republicans intended to use Planned Parenthood as a bargaining chip, as has been speculated. They agreed it simply boiled down to Republicans not having the stomach to shut down the government over PP. That said, Republicans did get a major concession from President Obama and Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid re: PP as part of the final Continuing Resolution FY11 budget deal: an agreement for both houses of Congress to hold a separate vote to defund PP as well as a vote to defund Obamacare."

Obama cuts $600 million from Community Health Centers while protecting Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood | Obama cuts $600 million from Community Health Centers while protecting Planned Parenthood | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment: The American Principles Project Wednesday criticized the Obama administration for allowing the elimination of $600 million for Community Health Centers while protecting funding for Planned Parenthood as part of last week’s budget deal agreed to by Congress and the White House. Touting Planned Parenthood as a key women’s health-care provider, Democrats held firm to their promise not to allow cuts to the nation’s largest abortion provider. Community Health Centers, which do not perform abortions, provide health services to the needy — including mammograms and pre- and post-natal care.

Couple leaves Planned Parenthood, charged for visit

DAY 37: Walked out of Planned Parenthood | 40 Days for Life: A young couple arrived for an appointment at Planned Parenthood in Memphis. On their way inside, they declined to talk, but a little while later, the man came out. This time, a counselor was able to strike up a conversation. He confirmed the young woman was there for an abortion.

The counselor gave him information about resources available in Memphis. He thanked her and went back inside. Less than ten minutes later, the couple left the building. The young man raised his arms, smiled, and exclaimed, “We’re not going to do it!”

40 Days for Life participants waved as the couple drove off. But then they made a quick stop and circled back into the parking lot. It seems they’d gotten a phone call from Planned Parenthood. They may have called off the abortion, but they still owed $100 for the clinic visit!

PP's fuzzy math

The Fate Of Women If There Were No Planned Parenthoods In GA – Planned Parenthood’s Fuzzy Math « Social Justice Begins in the Womb – Daily Pro-life Updates from the BK Lounge: Bryan Kemper relates, "In the state of Georgia alone there are 222 federally Title X funded health clinics that provide all of the services that Planned Parenthood provides and DO NOT perform abortions. Not only do they provide the same services but many of them provide Mammograms, a service Planned Parenthood DOES NOT provide."

Editor: I did a quick check of Michigan Title X recipients. There are 88 community health centers and 29 Planned Parenthood offices. Not all PP's offer abortion, but they all refer for abortion. My next question is, "How many community health centers refer women for abortions?"

Women with congenital heart disease are more likely to have been born preterm

A survey of women born in Sweden has revealed three significant links between being born prematurely and having an inborn heart defect, what doctors call congenital heart disease (CHD). First, women with CHD were more likely to have been born preterm or small-for-gestational age (SGA) than women without CHD. Secondly, when women with CHD have children, their babies are more likely to have a congenital malformation than children of unaffected women. They are also more prone to give birth to children preterm or SGA and their babies are more often delivered by cesarean section. And thirdly, mothers of women with CHD were more often single/unmarried or older than mothers whose children did not have heart disease. Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica

Federal Budget Battle Frustrates D.C. Residents

Federal Budget Battle Frustrates D.C. Residents : NPR: All day Friday Democratic lawmakers told reporters they were blocking efforts by Republicans to use the budget deal as a way to end funding for [Planned Parenthood]. But as the midnight deadline for a government shutdown loomed closer, President Obama spoke to House speaker John Boehner. John, I'll give you D.C. abortion. I am not happy about it, is what the president is reported to have said. And with that an agreement was reached. What the President gave Boehner was a provision that allows Congress to prohibit the use of locally raised tax dollars to pay for abortions for low income women in Washington, DC.

According to the latest D.C. census, the number of African-Americans in the city is alarmingly low. In one decade, "the black population dropped by more than 39,000." Experts say the percentages haven't been this low since World War II. Do liberals think that's a coincidence? Obviously, the local Planned Parenthood clinics are doing their job. So while Mayor Vincent Gray rages on about taxation without abortion representation, he should stop and consider where his city would be in another 10 years without the legislation. FRC

Planned Parenthood: A Thorn In Abortion Foes' Sides

Planned Parenthood: A Thorn In Abortion Foes' Sides : NPR: One in 5 women in the United States has visited a Planned Parenthood clinic. That makes the organization highly popular — and makes anti-abortion activists that much more irritated that Planned Parenthood continues to get federal funding: about $360 million in 2009, the last year for which statistics are available. Florida State professor Rohlinger says what the anti-abortion movement hates most about Planned Parenthood is its persistence: 'It basically stands in the way of its primary goal, which is to make the abortion procedure inaccessible in the U.S.'

Politico reports that online contributions to Planned Parenthood have grown by 500 percent since the House passed the bill that would have stripped its federal funding.

Victory over sexual violence

I was in a new town, no family, few friends close by, no health insurance and not a clue how to take care of myself during pregnancy.

One day, during a desperate call to a friend from home, I went over my so-called choices. She made a comment to me, “I know you are feeling overwhelmed with sadness and pain and despair right now, but just know, no single feeling lasts forever. An abortion will.” That hit me like a ton of bricks.

Upon deeper reflection, I realized that while I did not know who the father of my baby was yet, I did know who his mother was. And that was me. Feminists for Life, page 10, video

Tapes Show Planned Parenthood Injured Woman in Botched Abortion

Tapes Show Planned Parenthood Injured Woman in Botched Abortion | LifeNews.com: The Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Everett, Washington, sent a woman to the hospital in late March. Local pro-life advocate Mary Emanuel was at the abortion facility at the time and said, “We are still investigating as to the severity of the botched abortion and only pray that it was not fatal or caused serious injuries.” Since then, Emanuel obtained the recording of the 911 call Planned Parenthood officials placed to emergency personnel.

In the call, the Planned Parenthood caller casually tells the dispatcher that abortion center staff “have a patient that is bleeding that we need to transfer to the hospital immediately. We just did an abortion on her.” After confirming the patient was “not yet” in shock, the caller asked that the ambulance and emergency responders use the side door of the facility to not draw as much attention.

Abortion foes' tactics highlight high NYC rate

Abortion foes' tactics highlight high NYC rate | Page 2 of 2: Experts point to a myriad number of possible factors — social, economic, financial — to explain the statistics on abortions and unintended pregnancies in New York City. Rachel Jones, a senior researcher at the Guttmacher Institute, said that the procedure is more accessible in the city because there are fewer laws in New York that regulate abortion, state insurance pays for the procedure and public transportation makes it easy to get to providers. 'We are a geographically concentrated area,' she said. 'It is easy to find a clinic and it is easy to get there.'

Kansas abortion rates nosedive

Kansas abortion rates nosedive | LifeSiteNews.com: The abortion rates in Kansas have nosedived, according to a new report from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The report showed that abortions in Kansas fell 12 percent last year from 2009 numbers, and were down 32.4 percent when compared with the 2000 figures. Abortions reached a high of 12,445 in Kansas in 1999, but are now at the lowest level since 1988.

The Wichita Eagle speculated that part of the reason for the declines in the past year, particularly in late-term abortions, may be the death of abortionist George Tiller, who specialized in late-term abortions. Tiller was shot and killed in May of 2009; Scott Roeder has been charged with his murder.
Whereas there were an average of 300 late-term abortions in Kansas per year prior to 2010, that number fell to just one last year, performed on a baby with anencephaly. At the same time, Kansas legislators have launched a major pushback against abortion in the state.

QUERY: Brochure on contraception?

A director asked whether BFL had a "nice, concise brochure on why centers don't provide or refer for contraceptives." She went on to describe how "when you have a mother looking for a contraceptive for her daughter because 'you know they are going to do it anyway' you want to have a concise answer. We have brochures on the types of contraceptives and their failure rates."

We don't have that type of brochure. We do deal with the issue in our training manual, and maybe we should put something together -- with input from you. But I also thought I would query the list and ask if you know of any such brochure that's already out there.

Exposing the Planned Parenthood business model - The Hill's Congress Blog: Planned Parenthood’s claim that abortions make up just 3 percent of its services is also a gimmick. That number is actually closer to 12 percent, but strategically skewed by unbundling family planning services so that each patient shows anywhere from five to 20 “visits” per appointment (i.e., 12 packs of birth control equals 12 visits) and doing the opposite with abortion visits, bundling them together so that each appointment equals one visit.

Emergency at Planned Parenthood Aurora « Pro-Life Hotline: As he was praying, a sidewalk counselor witness an ambulance tearing around the corner from New York Street and sped into Planned Parenthood's parking lot. Shortly afterward, one, two and finally three Aurora police cars sped into the lot and set up a sort of perimeter around the ambulance. A few minutes later, the EMTs came back out with a gurney and, as is their habit, Planned Parenthood's employees' first priority was to hold up a sheet over their victim so nobody could see what they had done to her."

Politically correct foolishness

Concerned Women Blog: Even though each year one-in-four sexually active young people will contract a sexually transmitted disease (STD), the new politically correct way to educate our children on STDs is to consider them nothing more than an infection — a sexually transmitted infection (STI). We’re so afraid of not being tolerant and of making people feel bad about themselves that we’re willing to de-emphasize the abhorrent nature of an STD by downgrading it to an “infection?”

Editor: I may be dense, but I don't really see that much difference between a disease and an infection. Neither sound too good to me.
