New Head of Biggest Planned Parenthood Says Abortion Sacred

New Head of Biggest Planned Parenthood Says Abortion Sacred | LifeNews.com: Melaney Linton, who will now oversee Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, is determined to further the Life-ending work of Planned Parenthood:

“I am honored and humbled to be entrusted with such a sacred duty…I pledge to do everything in my power to fight back against the ideological attacks on Planned Parenthood and women, so that no teen will ever say she didn’t know how she got pregnant, no one will ever be denied basic reproductive health care, and no woman will ever be forced to bear children she cannot adequately support.”

Starting March 1st, Linton will manage 13 abortion and abortion-referring centers in Southeast Texas and Louisiana, as well as the largest abortion mill in America, located in Houston, Texas.

WHAT DO WE KNOW? Facts and figures on circumstances affecting Muslim women and girls in the US

Muslim girls and women in the United States face unique obstacles and challenges as a result of their cultural and religious background. In European countries, governments, social workers, and teachers have increasingly devoted attention towards helping girls and women from an Islamic background. By contrast, efforts in the United States are lagging behind.

The AHA Foundation has found that forced marriages, female genital mutilation, and acts of honor violence and honor killings take place in the United States more often and with a greater degree of severity than is commonly assumed. Social workers and educators often miss warning signs that indicate something is going wrong in Islamic families and Islamic communities. This document contains information meant to raise awareness of the issues that girls and women from an Islamic background in the United States may face – issues and actions that are in violation of U.S. laws.

Strengthening PCC and Church Relationships

In addition to meeting with pastors, there are many ways you can improve partnerships with churches.
  • Maintain communication through regular updates, newsletters, prayer calendars, etc. - through mailed or emailed materials.
  • Have one or two pastors on your board, or create a pastors advisory committee to which you'll be accountable and from whom you can receive input on issues or projects that come up. (Too many pastors on a board can be a drawback, but it's good to have some representation there.)
  • Offer your brochures or other ministry tools for the church's use.
  • Provide Sanctity of Human Life Sunday bulletin inserts free of charge to your supporting churches.
  • When emailing pastors, provide an online link to BFL's Pro-Life Pastors' Corner blog: http://blfpastorscorner.blogspot.com/

If you have helpful experiences to share or other suggestions for improving PCC and Church relationships, please comment!

Strengthening PCC and Church Relationships

Partners in Ministry is committed to strengthening the relationship between PCCs and churches. Here are some suggestions for the PCC director when he/she meets with local pastors.
  • Since pastors are ministry focused, share stories and testimonies of changed lives, particularly by salvation in Christ but also through decisions away froom abortion.
  • Consider bringing a client to the meeting, or have some of their stories printed out for the pastors to read and take back to their boards. Be sure to protect confidentiality.
  • Show how working in the center has transformed a volunteer's life - made her a better church member, more committed to the Lord, emboldened for evangelism, etc. Have a volunteer come to the meeting with you.
  • Present what the center can do to help the church: supply speakers for Sunday School or women's groups, educate youth groups on abstinence, provide unique outlets for service, connect clients to the church for discipleship or Bible study, etc.
  • As you appeal for funds and volunteers, emphasize tha you understand that you are not in competition for dollars and people but that you hope to work together as partners. Seek their advice about how to form that partnership. Be willing to acknowledge that relations in the past between the church and center may not have lived up to this ideal, and that you are working to improve relations.
  • Ask, "What can we do for you? How can we better serve your church?"

God "Rejoices" over Abortions, Says Episcopal Priestess

The Episcopal Church should clarify God's official position on abortion - at least so says a priestess of the church, who claims that a proposed rite for post-abortive women conflicts with church theology and that the Deity "rejoices" when women elect to abort their children. Rev. Nina Churchman wrote a letter to Episcopal Life Online expressing her outrage upon learning that her church has developed a healing rite for post-abortion women. Churchman said she "was sickened to discover that the rite for abortion is couched wholly in terms of sin and transgression. . . . Women should be able to mourn the loss of an aborted fetus without having to confess anything." LifeSiteNews

An abortion remembered

The idea that it begins at conception always seemed rather arbitrary to me. And I also suspect that this life is not our only shot. . . . I think it’s . . . likely that when a pregnancy is terminated, that soul is simply born to a different mother. I don’t deny that terminating a pregnancy can be a mournful event for a mother and a family. But I’m not so sure that it’s a devastating event for the unborn child. And I don’t see why pro-life folks are so sure about this. Daily Dish

Climate of hate, world of double standards

When a right-wing Christian vigilante kills, millions of fingers pull the trigger. When a left-wing Muslim vigilante kills, he kills alone. These are the instantly ossifying narratives in the Sunday shooting death of late-term abortion provider George Tiller of Kansas versus the Monday shootings of two Arkansas military recruiters. JWR

Frank Schaeffer blames religious right for Tiller's murder

In a Huffington Post column titled "How I (and Other 'Pro-Life' Leaders) Contributed to Dr. Tiller's Murder," evangelical leader (sic) Frank Schaeffer apologized for his involvement with the "hate-filled rhetoric" he associated with the "religious right." "The same hate machine I was part of is still attacking all abortionists as 'murderers,'" wrote Schaeffer this week. "And today once again the 'pro-life' leaders are busy ducking their personal responsibility for people acting on their words. The people who stir up the fringe never take responsibility. But I'd like to say on this day after a man was murdered in cold blood for performing abortions that I -- and the people I worked with in the religious right, the Republican Party, the pro-life movement and the Roman Catholic Church, all contributed to this killing by our foolish and incendiary words." LifeSiteNews

Editor: In the column, Frank repeatedly says "Roe went too far," implying that if Roe had only allowed first trimester abortions, none of this would have happened. Well, duh! If that were the case, Tiller wouldn't have stood out for doing late-term abortions and, therefore, he probably wouldn't have been shot. But Frank's premise is wrong. Roe does allow states to limit abortions, but so far none have, with the exception of a certain late-term abortion method. The reason for that is the intransigence of the "pro-choice" movement.

New Surprising Results on Abortion and Religiosity

Unwed pregnant teens and 20-somethings who attend or have graduated from private religious schools are more likely to obtain abortions than their peers from public schools, according to research in the June issue of the Journal of Health and Social Behavior. . . . Conservative Protestants were the least likely to report having an abortion, less likely than mainline Protestants, Catholics and women with non-Christian religious affiliations. . . . Women who attended school with conservative Protestants were more likely to decide to have an extramarital baby in their 20s than in their teenage years. LiveScience, LifeNews

Abortion Activist Blasts Obama's Call for "Common Ground"

For abortion advocates like Reverend Carlton Veazey, head of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, there can never been common ground on abortion because it should be an unfettered right. Writing in a pro-abortion blog, he said, "My experience of 13 years in the pro-choice movement is that 'common ground' has become another term for compromise on reproductive choice. In other words, achieving common ground will be accomplished by diminishing the ability of women to make decisions about abortion, whatever the personal cost. That's unacceptable. It's unacceptable for even one woman to suffer in order for opponents of abortion to be appeased." LifeNews; see also:

Big Pulpit

The Rev. A. R. Bernard, pastor of the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, NY, is a Republican who opposes abortion and gay lifestyles, believes in creationism and global warming. But he voted twice for Bill Clinton, and last year for Barack Obama. His endorsement was the first that Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg unveiled in his bid for a third term. NY Times

Evangelical Left Ethicist Defends Obama

In October 2004, Evangelical Left ethicist Glenn Stassen of Fuller Seminary gained attention for arguing that abortion rates had increased under President Bush after declines under President Clinton. Stassen sought to justify evangelical support for an abortion-rights candidate, arguing that wider welfare state programs more effectively reduce abortion than legal restrictions. Now armed with more comprehensive data, and energized by President Obama's Notre Dame controversy, Stassen, a strong Obama supporter, is claiming vindication. American Spectator

Vatican blames the Pill for environmental pollution

An article in L'Osservatore Romano claims there is substantial evidence available to show that the environment is being flooded with synthetic female hormones because of widespread use of oral contraceptives and the morning-after pill, resulting in a 'devastating' increase in male infertility with increasing numbers of couples struggling to conceive. Experts in Italy have dismissed the claims and say the hormones such as estrogen, which are contained in the contraceptive Pill, "are present everywhere... in plastic, in disinfectants and in meat that we eat." Researchers say once metabolised the hormones contained in oral contraceptives no longer have any of the characteristic effects of female hormones. News Medical

Consuming Secondhand Steroids: The Contraceptive Pollution of Nature, by Joel Brind

"Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done."

That was the Rev. Katherine Hancock Ragsdale in 2007, repetitiously inciting her disciples to be not just pro-choice but fanatically pro-abortion. This is significant because, according to standard journalistic stylebooks, Ragsdale does not exist. We're told that pro-choice folks don't like abortion; they're just trying to help a woman facing tragedy. . . . The tragedy of abortion is bad enough, but the origin of the tragedy, and so many others of our time, emerges from worship not of Christ but of "me, me, me." Katherine Ragsdale may show this tendency in a heightened form, but all of us display it to some degree. May God have mercy on her, on her students, and on all of us. Townhall, World
