Michigan bills seek dignified burial for abortion victims

Michigan bills seek dignified burial for abortion victims: A package of bills passed the Senate on November 10 with a vote of 30-8. Right to Life of Michigan says they have assurances from sponsors of the bill that the issue will be taken up in the House at the beginning of the next legislative session in January. The bills aim to give greater dignity to the remains of unborn children killed in abortion.

H.B. 5928 would change the Michigan health code “so that fetal remains will no longer be classified as ‘products of conception,’ along with the placenta, umbilical cord, and other uterine contents. Two other bills (S.B. 1563 and H.B. 5929) would directly legislate the methods hospitals and abortion clinics use to dispose of fetal remains.

The proposed legislation comes in response to the revelation in late October that abortion clinics in Delta Township and Saginaw had been illegally dumping fetal remains and medical records into a dumpster.

Bill Brings Out Foes on Abortion

Bill Brings Out Foes on Abortion - WSJ.com: A contentious bill that would require about two-dozen so-called crisis pregnancy centers to disclose that they don't offer abortions drew more than 50 abortion supporters and opponents to a New York City Council committee meeting Tuesday. Members of the Committee on Women's issues weren't expected to vote on the bill, which has the support of Speaker Christine Quinn and the Bloomberg administration. Council Member Daniel Halloran raised questions about the city government telling a group that it must disclose what it doesn't provide, suggesting that Planned Parenthood should change its name to indicate that it also plans for nonparenthood.

Chris Slattery, representative for several NYC centers says, "I was grilled extensively for 20 minutes, but we defended EMC's work quite well, as did many top experts from across the U.S. We continue individual council member meetings day by day for at least the next week. Pray on!"

Police in Thailand find hundreds of fetuses hidden in Buddhist temple

Police in Thailand find hundreds of fetuses hidden in Wat Phai Ngern Buddhist temple: A strong odor emanating from the Wat Phai Ngern temple led police to the horrific scene Tuesday. A total of 348 dead fetuses -- wrapped in different colored plastic bags and newspapers -- were discovered in a temporary body storage area. Authorities are continuing their investigation and expect to find more fetuses in the upcoming days.

Police have already arrested undertaker Suthep Cha-bangbon, who was taken into custody and confessed to helping five clandestine abortion clinics dispose of the fetuses by cremation. No word was given on how long he had been storing the bodies or when he was planning on cremating them. Abortion is illegal in Thailand, except when the pregnancy poses a health risk to the mother, the fetus is abnormal or in cases of rape.

No Charges for Unlicensed Abortionist as ND Prosecutors Ignore Laws

No Charges for Unlicensed Abortionist as ND Prosecutors Ignore Laws :Operation Rescue: State’s Attorney Birch Burdick has announced that he will not file criminal charges against an abortionist Lori Lynn Thorndike, who committed illegal abortions at the Red River Women’s Clinic in Fargo, North Dakota, while her medical license was lapsed.

Brudick used abortion clinic rhetoric word for word by describing Thorndike’s licensing issues as “an administrative oversight” and noted that she had active medical licenses in South Dakota and Colorado at the time she was doing abortions on a lapsed license in North Dakota.

“North Dakota laws are very explicit. It is a Class B Felony to commit abortions in that state without a valid North Dakota medical license. Burdick has decided all on his own that the laws of North Dakota that were enacted for the protection of vulnerable women should not be enforced,” said Operation Rescue spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger.

Why are Anorexics More Likely to Have Unplanned Pregnancies and Abortions?

Why are Anorexics More Likely to Have Unplanned Pregnancies and Abortions? | TIME Healthland: New research published in the November issue of the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology that shows women with anorexia nervosa are far more likely to have unplanned pregnancies and abortions. Researchers studied 62,060 women who participated in the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study. Just 62 women identified themselves as anorexic.

Half reported unplanned pregnancies, compared to 19% in the women without eating disorders; 24% of the anorexic women said they'd had an abortion, in comparison to 15% in the other group. The anorexic women were also younger than the other women when they delivered babies: 26.2 versus 29.9 years old.

“It wasn't just a subtle difference,” says Cynthia Bulik, the study's lead author. “It was really a whopping difference. We have got a public health message we've got to get out there.”

Editor: Is there also a link from abortion to anorexia?

Leroy Carhart Forced to Move Late-Term Abortion Business out of Nebraska

Leroy Carhart Forced to Move Late-Term Abortion Business out of Nebraska: Late-term abortionist Leroy Carhart has announced he will attempt to set up shop in three different states in order to continue performing late-term abortions that are now illegal under a new Nebraska law.

Carhart says he plans to have three new abortion facilities up and running by January with one in the Maryland-D.C. area, and another in Council Bluffs, Iowa offering late-term abortions. He also is acquiring an Indianapolis abortion clinic, which specializes only in early-term abortions.

He said that the reason for moving his late-term abortion business out of Bellvue is Nebraska’s new abortion ban, Legislative Bill 1103. The law prohibits elective abortions after 20 weeks post-conception on the basis that science definitively shows an unborn child feels pain at that age.

At least part of the problem was thought to stem from the proliferation of illegal abortion clinics. Many do not have proper systems for disposing of fetuses. The statistics also included some newborn babies.

Late-Term Abortion Practitioner Carhart May Open New Centers | LifeNews.com: The Facebook page of Trust Women Movie, a pro-abortion propaganda film made to honor Tiller and promote Carhart, has a posting saying Carhart “is working on opening two new clinics” and it asks abortion advocates to donate to help support their “trip to film this.” Also, KETV has confirmed Carhart is saying he will open three new abortion centers in December — including in southeastern Council Bluffs, another in Maryland and one in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Julie Schmit-Albin, the director of Nebraska Right to Life, responded to these reports, saying, "If LeRoy Carhart is opening two new abortion facilities, one wonders if they will be outside of Nebraska in order to escape our newly enacted law which bans abortion at 20 weeks based on babies feeling pain,” she said. The other potential is that “Carhart will leave Nebraska altogether for a state(s) that have fewer abortion restrictions on the books.” Before the update, the Nebraska Right to Life director speculated New Mexico, Kansas and a short move to Council Bluffs, Iowa — a suburb of Omaha – could be potential destinations for Carhart.

Washington Post Wrong, Abortion Hurts Women's Mental Health

Washington Post Wrong, Abortion Hurts Women's Mental Health | LifeNews.com: A long time ago, pro-lifers realized that humanizing the unborn was not always an effective strategy, so they adopted other rhetorical and legislative strategies to protect the unborn. One such strategy has been to appeal to women’s self-interest by documenting the emotional pain that many women face after obtaining an abortion. (The Silent No More Campaign has been very effective at this.)

In Sunday’s Washington Post, Brenda Major responded to this strategy by arguing that it is based on faulty science. But, according to Michael New, her analysis is flawed.

HPV-Positive Cancers Spreading among the Middle-Aged: Scientific American

HPV-Positive Cancers Spreading among the Middle-Aged: Scientific American: Head and neck cancer patients were once primarily older heavy smokers and drinkers. Now, the majority who are diagnosed with the disease are closer to middle age (many ages 40 to 55) and developed it not from years of tobacco or alcohol use but rather because they engaged in oral sex.

HPV-positive cancer rates will continue to rise for at least the next decade or two. Why? Simple societal shifts: This increase that we are seeing could be arising from changes in sexual behaviors that have occurred over time in the United States. People seem to be having more types of sex with more people—and starting to do so at a younger age.

For Many Teens, Oral Sex Leads to Riskier Activity

Couples become easy prey in tube baby boom: With sterility now affecting 40 million people in China, couples are increasingly turning to in vitro fertilization in order to have children. Kaminer writes that during her sonogram, Linda Marzulla, the center's director, said that "[i]t's my body, my choice ... invoking the old abortion-rights rallying cry with a new, antiabortion twist, 'but someone else is involved, too.'" Men Can Be Victims of Coercion, Too: Men have no legal say when it comes to abortion, and often little opportunity to support their partners and unborn children. CDC Report Shows Teen Pregnancy Rates have Dropped

New CDC Report Shows Teen Pregnancy Rates have Dropped: While a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report provides more evidence that abstinence messages decrease teen sexual activity and pregnancy, Planned Parenthood has put its own spin on the numbers to promote its childhood sex education programs.

The recently released CDC report entitled 'State Disparities in Teenage Birth Rates in the United States' acknowledges that teenage birth rates have continued to decline since their peak in 1991. It then examines the ethnicity of teen mothers in 2007, and finds they are predominantly Hispanic and black in almost every state.

Aborted babies, patient records found in MI abortion mill dumpster; laws to stop introduced

Aborted babies, patient records found in MI abortion mill dumpster; laws to stop introduced - Jill Stanek: On February 27 pro-lifer Chris Veneklase found the aborted remains of 17 babies in medical ziplock bags, with the names of their mothers labeled on the outside, in a dumpster at the Womans Choice abortion mill in Lansing.

Veneklase contacted Dr. Monica Miller of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, and together they searched the dumpster several more times to retrieve more biohazardous waste and patient records, some from the “sister” mill in Saginaw.

In early April Veneklase and Miller contacted authorities and put together a meeting with state and local law enforcement as well as State Rep. Rick Jones, in whose district the mill is located, and the MI Right to Life legislative liaison.

An investigation was launched involving the Attorney General, Solicitor General, Eaton Co. prosecutor, and Eaton Co. Sheriff’s office, whose detectives conducted more searches of trash and retrieved more evidence.

When We Can't Save Everyone

When We Can't Save Everyone: When we release our clients to the Lord, we recognize that it is God's power, not ours, which changes them. When we see spiritual progress in their lives, we can give God the glory instead of taking the credit for ourselves. And when those we try to help stumble and fall, we can entrust them to the Lord, who alone is able to pick them up and get them back on their feet.

Parents stopped from forcing Texas teen to abort

ADF - News Release: Alliance Defense Fund allied attorneys representing a 16-year-old girl secured a temporary restraining order Monday from a Texas court that blocks her parents from forcing her to have an abortion against her will.

On two occasions, the teenager’s mother literally dragged her to local abortion facilities, including International Healthcare Solutions and Planned Parenthood of the Texas Capital Region, demanding that her daughter terminate the life of her child. Though she refused and the child’s father also does not want the baby killed, her parents continued to insist that they will force her to have the abortion. The court’s order prevents that from happening.

The Most Wanted Surrogates in the World

The Most Wanted Surrogates in the World: Magazine: glamour.com: To get an idea of how common surrogacy is among military spouses, consider this: Active-duty U.S. service members make up less than one half of one percent of the U.S. population. Yet military wives make up 12 to 15 percent of their surrogate pool. And according to an unscientific poll, more than 19 percent of respondents said they were military surrogates.

What drives these women to take on such an emotionally and physically demanding job? Surrogates cite a desire to help another couple finally have a family. Then there’s the bottom line. Financial concerns figure into these decisions—for military wives, often struggling to make ends meet; for infertile couples who could save thousands of dollars using a military surrogate.

Continue to pray for Joy in Uganda

Veronica Nakyewe writes this note: "Thank God for your prayers. Today we . . . were able to transfer Sister Joy to a private Hospital where she is receiving medical treatment required for her condition. There has been a lot of silent and low morale with in us all here at The Comforter’s Center. And today will be able to get sleep with the knowledge that Sister Joy is being taken care of and in the right hands at least.

"In the public Hospital, She slept on the floor for several days before and she only got a bed after some one died. And since then many have been coming in the same ward and leave dead. With Sister Joy now in the private Hospital. We hope she will be able to recover with in time. I will keep you update.

"But thank you, for your encouragements, there have been days where I needed just encouragement words and many of you have been standing with us. We are partners in everything. And special thanks to our Big Family of the Kingsland Baptist Church for coming to the rescue of our wounded warrior."

Twin fetuses learn how to be social in the womb

Twin fetuses learn how to be social in the womb: Researchers have been studying pregnancies involving twins. Psychologist Umberto Castiello explained that newborns appear to be already 'wired' to interact socially with other humans soon after birth, and previous research has demonstrated that within only a few hours after birth babies can imitate gestures of people around them and make other social interactions. Studying twins in the womb made it possible to see investigate the pre-wired hypothesis and see if socialization was already apparent while still in the womb.

In Memory of the Greatest Pro-Life Orator

In Memory of the Greatest Pro-Life Orator, Christian News, Conservative Commentary: Any other black woman with her credentials and background would have been celebrated in culture and the media, but Dr. Jefferson was marginalized because of her pro-life views. In its obituary, the New York Times called her an 'anti-abortion activist.' The co-director of National Right to Life called her 'probably the greatest orator of our movement. In fact, take away the ‘probably.' If you want to see how articulate she was, go to youtube.com and type in Mildred Jefferson. If you never knew her, or knew of her, you will be impressed and understand how much the pro-life movement will miss her voice.

Fatal Clostridium sordellii Infections after Medical Abortions

As previously reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, Planned Parenthood Federation of America health centers changed their recommended regimen for medical abortions in the years 2006 and 2007, administering buccal rather than vaginal misoprostol and adding routine prophylactic antibiotics (doxycycline) in response to rare reports of serious infection after medical abortion. The effectiveness of this revised regimen in preventing C. sordellii infections and the safety of routine administration of antibiotics for this procedure remain unknown.

C. sordellii toxic shock syndrome may occur in reproductive-age women regardless of pregnancy status. Clinicians should be aware of common clinical features, including abdominal pain, hypotension, tachycardia, third-space fluid accumulations, hemoconcentration, and marked leukemoid response, typically without fever.

Scholars Return to ‘Culture of Poverty’ Ideas

Scholars Return to ‘Culture of Poverty’ Ideas - NYTimes.com: Seeking to recapture the topic from economists, sociologists have ventured into poor neighborhoods to delve deeper into the attitudes of residents. Their results have challenged some common assumptions, like the belief that poor mothers remain single because they don’t value marriage.

Abortion access and training expands in Utah

Abortion access and training expands in Utah | The Salt Lake Tribune: In July, the University of Utah joined a national program to train physicians in contraception and abortion techniques. And in August, Planned Parenthood of Utah started offering first-trimester abortions, becoming the state’s fourth provider.

Supporters say the need for expanded training has been highlighted by a botched abortion in Maryland by Utah doctor Nicola Riley. Maryland’s medical board suspended her license in August, accusing her of endangering patients’ safety. Riley, who also provides abortions in Utah, still has her local medical license. "There are bad people in every profession,” said Karrie Galloway, CEO of Planned Parenthood Association of Utah. “That’s why it is so important that we have training programs … so that medical students and post docs have the skills and the training to provide the best care possible.”
Editor: Emphasis added. The article goes on:
“'We’re there because we need to be good at it. We need to be able to pick up when anyone else slows down.' In opening the new Metro Health Center, 160 S. 1000 East, Galloway took advantage of a pot of money available to add abortion services. The Consortium of Planned Parenthood Abortion Providers gave the Utah clinic an undisclosed amount."
Editor: When you go to the article, pay attention to the sidebar at left, 'Legislator Responds.' Very interesting.
Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman, said he was troubled that the state-owned University of Utah was offering an abortion-related fellowship. “If that is the case, it’s something the Legislature should definitely look at,” said Wimmer, adding that he wants to ensure no state money is subsidizing the program. And Wimmer said Planned Parenthood’s decision to offer abortions means it will lose credibility at the Legislature, where the organization previously stressed that it did not terminate pregnancies. “That was the only argument that they had that carried any water with some of the people in the Legislature,” he declared. “They have lost any moral high ground they ever had for them to perpetuate optional abortions.”

Abortion agenda aimed at Hispanics

Abortion agenda aimed at Hispanics, pro-lifers say: In the United States, where 15 percent of the population is Hispanic, about 25 percent of the abortions performed annually are done on Hispanic women.

Planned Parenthood opened its largest center in the country last March in a Houston, Texas, neighborhood that is predominantly Hispanic and black. The six-story building houses administrative offices as well as a clinic where women can have abortions up to the 24th week of pregnancy. And in Arizona, where about 30 percent of the population is of Hispanic origin, pro-lifers contend the organization has long set its sights on the minority community.

Pro-Abort Group Pushes Images that Hide Humanity of the Unborn

Approximately 6 weeks estimated gestational age from conception, 8 weeks from LMP.
As reported by the blog Big Blue Wave, the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada is recommending three pictures to media outlets, two that depict the unborn child’s gestational sac rather than the unborn child himself. The third is a shot of a woman holding a positive pregnancy test. “It’s a complete denial of reality,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, national organizer for Campaign Life Coalition. “They think they can show a blob and this is what the little baby is. Well, what’s inside there? Is there a heart beating in there?” LifeSiteNews
