Philadelphia Abortion Clinic Escaped State Oversight

Philadelphia Abortion Clinic Escaped State Oversight - NYTimes.com: For years, state health officials missed some unsettling patterns at the three-story brick abortion clinic on Lancaster Avenue. It was always open late, way past the time the pizza place next door closed at midnight. The women who emerged from it — often poor blacks and Hispanics — appeared dazed and in pain, and sometimes left in ambulances. The doctor who ran the clinic, Kermit Gosnell, had been sued at least 15 times for malpractice. Two women died while under his care. But the dangerous practices went unnoticed, except by the women who experienced them. They were discovered entirely by accident, during a prescription drug raid by federal agents last February.

Abortion in New York - Easy Access, Complex Everything Else

Abortion in New York - Easy Access, Complex Everything Else - NYTimes.com: New York has always been at the forefront of reproductive choice. Unlike many other places, New York has not passed laws limiting access to abortions. Patients do not have to return to the clinic on two separate days. They do not have to be told about what the fetus will experience, or have to look at the fetus on a monitor or have the procedure narrated to them in real time. Teenagers do not need parental consent.

In many other parts of the country, doctors who want to perform surgical abortions have to go out of their way to learn how. In New York, such training is a standard part of the curriculum for obstetric and gynecological residents. So instead of quarantining abortion into special clinics, many doctors offer it as part of a menu of services. In New York, unlike in most states, Medicaid covers abortion.

Kermit the Fraud

Family Research Council: One of the more shocking pieces of information deep in the Grand Jury's report, is that Gosnell, using the Society's name, 'purported to be a provider of children's vaccines under a program administered by the Philadelphia Health Department's Division of Disease Control' (page 199). A program that, under the umbrella of Medicaid, is funded with taxpayer dollars. The grand-jury report explains that '[e]mails going back to August 2001 reveal that he was suspended from the program repeatedly for failing to maintain logs and for storing vaccines in filthy, unsuitable refrigerators, and at improper temperatures... Chicken pox vaccines were stored in an ice tray above the containers of bloody fetuses... When [the inspector] asked who in the practice treated children, [one of Gosnell's employees] replied: 'They don't come in.'' The inspector told the grand jury that the clinic was 'improperly trying to count abortion patients as vaccination patients' (page 202). Despite her report, Pennsylvania officials looked the other way.

Care Net statement on Sanctity of Human Life Sunday

“As Congress and state legislatures reconvene, they are faced with tough decisions about their budgets in order to keep our country and their states afloat. Many are looking to non-governmental sources to ‘fill in the gap’ for the critical services they must cut. In fact, Washington State Governor Chris Gregoire issued a clarion call to non-profits and the faith community to step up to the plate. Care Net and our network of 1,100 pregnancy centers are ready to respond to the call. . . .

“Sadly, in Washington state and other areas around the country, there is an effort afoot by abortion advocates to shut down the work of pregnancy centers. A bill currently being discussed in Washington (H.B.1366) would cripple pregnancy centers, if passed. “With Gov. Gregoire’s call to action, it’s common sense that bills like these must be defeated."

Mug Shots Released After Gosnell, Co-Defendants Arraigned on Murder Charges

Mug Shots Released After Gosnell, Co-Defendants Arraigned on Murder Charges :Operation Rescue: Late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell and eight of his co-defendants were arraigned yesterday for the murders of one abortion patient and seven new born babies along with a host of other charges. Below are their mug shots and a summary of their charges.

NAF failed to report violations at Gosnell's clinic

Two months before the raid that shut Gosnell's clinic down, an inspector for the National Abortion Federation (NAF) walked into the same clinic to vet the facility for inclusion in the federation. While clinic workers testified that Gosnell cleaned up for the inspection, the NAF representative nonetheless recalled being appalled by the vastly inadequate treatment provided there. But despite witnessing numerous violations of basic standards of care, the inspector never reported Gosnell – who was arrested this week and charged with 8 murders - to authorities.

The inspector, watching a few first-trimester procedures in Gosnell’s clinic, “noticed that no one was monitoring or taking vital signs of patients who were sedated during procedures,” wrote the jurors. “She asked Gosnell about the pulse oximeter that should have been used for monitoring, but he told her it was broken. Apparently, Karnamaya Mongar’s death a month earlier had not caused Gosnell to obtain equipment that worked.”

The inspector also noticed that the clinic kept insufficient records of patients, and failed to provide patients with information of the risks of medications or of the procedure. Out-of-state patients were offered a bed to recover – unattended - overnight following an abortion in a facility where bathrooms and exits were difficult to locate.

The jurors expressed shock that these observations would not have prompted the NAF inspector to take more drastic measures. “We have to question why an evaluator from NAF, whose stated mission is to ensure safe, legal, and acceptable abortion care, and to promote health and justice for women, did not report Gosnell to authorities,” they wrote.

National Abortion Federation president Vicki Saporta said this week that Gosnell’s practice was “a total outlier” to the “very high quality care” of other abortion clinics. However, while acknowledging that Gosnell’s application was rejected in 2009, the NAF has apparently not yet provided an explanation for failing to report the facility. LifeSiteNews

NYC's bill targeting pregnancy centers: DOA

NYC's bill targeting pregnancy centers: DOA: Bill No. 371, which mimics ordinances passed in Baltimore and Austin, would force PCCs in New York City to post signage that they do not commit abortions or distribute contraceptives. It would also force them to notify clients if there were no doctor in the house. But then came a report two weeks ago from the New York City Department of Health that a staggering 41 percent of all pregnancies in NYC ended in abortion in 2009. The rate for black women was even worse – 60 percent. For Bill No. 371, the timing of this report could not have been worse.

Editor: Irony of ironies -- Jill Stanek notes that NY gets an A on NARAL's grading system. Pennsylvania gets an F for, among other things, imposing "a variety of burdensome requirements on abortion providers that are not imposed on other health-care providers," including stipulating by whom and where abortions can be done. I'd give them an F for failing to enforce them.

Missed chances to shut Philly clinic abounded

News from The Associated Press: Regulators ignored report after report of horrific conditions at a squalid abortion clinic, prosecutors said, leaving a trail of missed chances over the years to stop a doctor from performing illegal, late-term abortions that killed at least two patients and hundreds of newborns. The officials' failure to follow up on complaints against Dr. Kermit Gosnell came amid a 'live and let die' political climate that effectively ended inspections of all abortion clinics in Pennsylvania, according to the grand jury that indicted Gosnell.

More Than 10% of Young Adults With STDs Claim Abstinence – TIME Healthland: Researchers tested the urine samples of 14,012 teens and young adults (average age: 22) who had filled out the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, looking for infections from Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonorrhea) and Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis). When they looked at the survey answers among the group who had positive test results, they found that over 10% of that group claimed to have not had sex within the previous year — and half of those claimed to have not had sex ever.

Inside the 'baby charnel house'

Inside the 'baby charnel house' - Philly.com: The grand jury called it 'a baby charnel house.' For more than 30 years, Kermit Gosnell ran an abortion clinic in West Philadelphia that was the 'go-to' place for women wanting illegal late-term abortions or for people seeking no-questions-asked prescription drugs, according to a grand jury. This article offers some highlights from the jury's report.

Editor: I'd call them lowlights. At least we can be grateful the major media is running this story.

Abortion Clinic Last Inspected In 1993

D.A.: 'House Of Horrors' Abortion Clinic Last Inspected In 1993: The grand jury report indicates that panelists were enraged with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the DA Seth Williams said. Gosnell got his license in 1979. There was another doctor who was board-certified and a consultant but hadn't been there since the 1980s, Williams said.

'There is more oversight over women's hair salons than over abortion clinics,' he said. 'His hadn't been inspected since 1993. He didn't have the appropriate emergency equipment. That's why women died there. He ruptured uteruses and intestines of women. He didn't … give women oxygen if they needed it or checked their heart or pulse.' The grand jury and the judge in the case actually went to the clinic wearing hazardous materials suits.

Pennsylvania Governor Upset by Lack of Abortion Oversight

Pennsylvania Governor Upset by Lack of Abortion Oversight | LifeNews.com: The Associated Press today indicates Gov. Tom Corbett’s office is reviewing the grand jury report detailing the deplorable conditions at the abortion center and the acts in which Gosnell engaged in infanticides of seven babies purposefully born and killed with scissors. Corbett’s spokeswoman said the governor, who is pro-life, called what he read “horrific.”

“Pennsylvania is not a Third World country,” the district attorney’s office declared in the report. “There were several oversight agencies that stumbled upon and should have shut down Kermit Gosnell long ago.”

Gosnell denied bail

Other members of Gosnell’s [rogue's gallery] were given bail amounts, with Tina Baldwin on $150,000 bail, Madline Joe on $250,000 bail, Elizabeth Hampton on $250,000 bail, Eileen O’Neil on $1 million bail, his wife Pearl Gosnell on $1 million and Sherry West on $2 million. Steven Massof had not yet been arraigned.
Pearl Gosnell, Kermit’s 49-year-old wife who also has no medical license, faces charges of providing an abortion at 24 or more weeks and conspiracy, among other charges. Hampton, the abortion practitioner’s sister-in-law, is charged with hindering prosecution, perjury and obstruction of justice.
Williams, 42,  routinely performed illegal operations and gave anesthesia without a license and is charged with third-degree murder in Mongar’s death as well as charges related to the infanticides. Moten, 33, faces charges in the infanticides.
Sherry West, 54, was charged with third-degree murder providing an abortion at 24 or more weeks and other charges; Eileen O’Neil, 54, was charged with theft by deception, conspiracy, perjury and false swearing and falsely posed as a doctor at the abortion center; Maddline Joe, 53, was the office manager and charged with conspiracy; Tina Baldwin, 45, was charged with racketeering, conspiracy and corruption of a minor after she allowed her 15-year-old daughter to administer anesthesia.
Steven Masoof, 48, was the lone person not arraigned and he is charged with conspiracy and other charges. He was an unlicensed medical school graduate. LifeNews

Bill attacking Crisis Pregnancy Centers in Washington State expected to pass

Bill attacking Crisis Pregnancy Centers in Washington State expected to pass | LifeSiteNews.com: The National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA), a public interest law firm that provides assistance to Crisis Pregnancy Centers, is calling the Washington bill “one of the worst we have seen,” because of its unique civil action provisions.

Unlike previous measures of its kind, the bill dispenses with the ordinary requirement that a person must suffer damages before bringing a lawsuit against a Crisis Pregnancy Center. The proposed law states that “any person who is aggrieved by a violation” of the law is entitled to bring suit.

According to NIFLA, “an ‘aggrieved’ person is not one who suffers damages but rather is any person offended by the work of [Crisis Pregnancy Centers], i.e. an abortion-rights activist.”

Beth Chase, lead consultant for NIFLA, told LifeSiteNews in an interview Thursday that, because of this provision, the bill “puts every pregnancy center in Washington State at risk of harassing lawsuits.”

Health Dept Ignored Abortionist Who Killed Woman, Babies With Scissors | LifeNews.com: District The grand jury report against abortionist Kermit Gosnell contains shocking findings that shows significant problems in monitoring abortion centers. “We discovered that Pennsylvania’s Department of Health has deliberately chosen not to enforce laws that should afford patients at abortion clinics the same safeguards and assurances of quality health care as patients of other medical service providers. Even nail salons in Pennsylvania are monitored more closely for client safety.”

Wisconsin abortion facilities not subject to health inspections

Pro-Life Wisconsin: An open records request conducted by Pro-Life Wisconsin has revealed the state’s abortion facilities are not inspected by the Department of Health Services and no records exist of any such past inspections. Philadelphia doctor accused of murdering patient, newborns

Philadelphia doctor accused of murdering patient, newborns - CNN.com: In an interview with CNN, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams described the abortion clinic as 'horrific' and providing 'botched and illegal abortions.'

'It was a house of horrors beyond any type of definition or explanation I can humbly try to give. And it's very sad for the women that were there, that were subjected to such horrific and barbaric -- I would say medical treatment but it wasn't medical -- treatment.

'My grasp of the English language doesn't really allow me to fully describe how horrific this clinic was -- rotting bodies, fetal remains, the smell of urine throughout, blood-stained.' He said women patients were often 'very poor. The doctor gained a reputation. People far and wide knew that he performed abortions at any time,' Williams said."

WA state bill would make 'crisis pregnancy centers' disclose anti-abortion agendas

Bill would make 'crisis pregnancy centers' disclose anti-abortion agendas: For years, women's rights groups have complained about 'limited service pregnancy centers,' which often look like medical clinics - with helpful counselors, pregnancy tests and ultrasounds - but really exist to push an anti-abortion agenda.

A bill introduced Wednesday in the Legislature seeks to make the motives of such centers more transparent. It would require them to disclosure upfront that they do not perform abortions or refer clients to abortion providers; give out comprehensive birth control; or provide medical care for pregnant women.

BREAKING NEWS! Philly Abortionist, 9 Others Jailed on 8 Counts of Murder in Overnight Raid

BREAKING NEWS! Philly Abortionist, 9 Others Jailed on 8 Counts of Murder in Overnight Raid :Operation Rescue: Police in Pennsylvania have arrested and jailed abortionist Kermit Gosnell, his wife, and eight other suspects in an overnight raid after a grand jury handed down indictments that include eight counts of murder.

Gosnell killed Karnamaya Mongar, 41, on November 20, 2009, after she was overdosed on painkillers during an abortion in her 18th or 19th week of pregnancy. Mongar’s brother, told reporters that Gosnell’s abortion clinic was “dirty and bloody.” Gosnell’s medical license was suspended and his clinic closed.

A grand jury was convened to investigate. It has charged Gosnell with eight counts of murder for the death of Mongar and seven babies who were born alive during failed illegal late-term abortions then killed by Gosnell or his clinic workers. Some clinic workers have been charged with multiple counts of murder in the deaths of the infants.

Despite massive contraceptive use, 24% of unborn Californians die by abortion

Despite massive contraceptive use, 24% of unborn Californians die by abortion | LifeSiteNews.com: Guttmacher’s figures indicate that 214,190 women obtained abortions in California in 2008, meaning that 24% of all pregnancies ended in abortion. The national average, according to the same organization, is 19% of all pregnancies.

At the same time, California has one of the highest rates of contraceptive use among low income people. Guttmacher reports that in 2008, 1,530,550 female “contraceptive clients” were served at publicly funded clinics, reaching 64.5% of those who Guttmacher defines as “needing” the services, a figure second only to Vermont’s rate of 70.8%.

Oprah: My baby’s death was ‘my second chance’

Oprah: My baby’s death was ‘my second chance’ | LifeSiteNews.com: Commenting on Oprah Winfrey's recent revelation, Virginia Cline of Heartbeat International, said her words “reflect the brokenness many women feel when faced with an untimely pregnancy. That she would think death is better than life is very sad. Pregnancy help centers re-humanize women by meeting their immediate needs with a servant heart, by witnessing to the sanctity of human life, by helping them to recapture their self esteem, and by helping moms to recognize the inestimable value of their baby.”

Editor: Does anyone else have a problem with the idea that women need to be "rehumanized? This is the second time I've come across the idea that abortion dehumanizes people -- particularly abortionists. I believe this is a product of sloppy thinking. No one can make themselves or another person less than human.

If we adopt language like this, we're falling for the fallacy that the pro-abortion has adopted. They "dehumanize" the unborn by their actions and words. We must maintain the conviction that a person is made in the image of God no matter how sinful they are. It is more biblically accurate to say the sin of abortion hardens or sears a person's conscience.

Haskell’s Abortion Empire Imperiled By Proposed Late-term Abortion Ban

Haskell’s Abortion Empire Imperiled By Proposed Late-term Abortion Ban :Operation Rescue: A pro-life Democrat has introduced a bill in Ohio that would ban abortions after 24 weeks, or 22 weeks if tests determine that the pre-born baby is viable. This bill could have serious repercussions on one of the nation’s most prominent late-term abortionists, Martin Haskell.

Haskell boasts of having invented the partial-birth abortion, which was outlawed by the Federal Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003. He then modified the procedure to circumvent the ban by killing the baby in utero with a fatal injection to the heart prior to the onset of labor. Haskell operates late-term abortion clinics in Dayton and Sharonville.

The late-term abortion ban, known as House Bill 7, was among the first bills to be introduced in Ohio and indicates that House leadership considers the bill to be of a high priority. It is the first attempt to pass such legislation since 1997.

Abortion Has Caused 300K Breast Cancer Deaths Since Roe

Abortion Has Caused 300K Breast Cancer Deaths Since Roe | LifeNews.com: Professor Joel Brind recently commented on how many women have become victims. “If we take the overall risk of breast cancer among women to be about 10% (not counting abortion), and raise it by 30%, we get 13% lifetime risk. Using the 50 million abortions since Roe v. Wade figure, we get 1.5 million excess cases of breast cancer. At an average mortality of 20% since 1973, that would mean that legal abortion has resulted in some 300,000 additional deaths due to breast cancer since Roe v. Wade.”

Despite slight uptick, new abortion stats show pro-life success story

Despite slight uptick, new abortion stats show pro-life success story | LifeSiteNews.com: The mainstream media’s coverage focuses narrowly on why the abortion decline stalled in 2008; very few media outlets are taking a longer-term view and asking why the number of abortions has declined by 20 to 25 percent since the early 1990s.

Conservatives should take pride in this decline. Key reasons for it include more pro-life laws being passed at the state level (e.g., parental-involvement and informed-consent laws), and the declining number of abortion providers, as fewer physicians are interested in performing abortions.

After this conversation, Forrester was questioned about her views. At a disciplinary hearing, Forrester was told that she could continue to work only if she never spoke of her beliefs about abortion again. She was told never to “give materials like this to colleagues at work.” Because she would not give them that satisfaction, a second hearing is scheduled.

Rise in abortions in China, young women targeted

Rise in abortions in China, young women targeted | World news | guardian.co.uk: The leaf-strewn median on Eternal Peace Road hides a grim secret: Numerous tiny fetuses lie in unmarked graves dug by women from the abortion clinic across the street. The staff at the small clinic in the heart of this ancient city don't bury most of the fetuses — only those that have reached three or four months, when they clearly resemble miniature babies.

It is a secret hiding in plain sight, much like the rising rate of abortions among young, unmarried women in China. While comprehensive data are hard to come by, official figures show abortions are increasing, and Chinese media and experts say many, if not most, of the abortion-seekers are young, single women. That's a change from the past, when abortion was used mainly to enforce the government's one child per couple limit.

Report Shows Contraception Failure, 54% Used Before Abortion | LifeNews.com: The Guttmacher report shows “54 percent of women who have abortions had used a contraceptive method (usually condom or the pill) during the month they became pregnant.” Of the women who say they did not intend to become pregnant, the report said “most of these women have practiced contraception in the past.” Despite the figures and the failure of birth control and contraception to arrest the abortion figures, Planned Parenthood said in a statement it should be promoted further.

Abortion survivor speaks ‘in honor’ of her twin who died

Abortion survivor Claire Culwell speaks ‘in honor’ of her twin who died | LifeSiteNews.com: Claire Culwell says that when she went to visit her birth mother for the first time, she offered her a card that said “thank you for choosing life for me.” Culwell, now 21, had been raised in a pro-life and Christian home after being given up for adoption, and wanted to express her gratitude to her biological mother for having brought her into the world.

Although her mother cried tears of joy at their meeting, the words on the card provoked a different reaction than the one Culwell had expected. “What were very happy tears began to turn into very sad tears as well,” Culwell says. Her mother then explained to her the circumstances of her birth: she had survived an attempted abortion, an abortion that had ended the life of her twin sister.

Former Planned Parenthood director admits: I had two ‘traumatic’ abortions

Former Planned Parenthood director admits: I had two ‘traumatic’ abortions | LifeSiteNews.com: Abby Johnson's experience of aborting twice despite having used contraception made her begin to question her employer’s talking point of making abortion more “rare” by distributing more contraceptives. When she counseled women at the clinic, Johnson found that “almost all of them were contracepting, but they were choosing abortion. And I just thought, what is happening here, what is going on?”

Full legal analysis of Guttmacher report on abortion

Full legal analysis of Guttmacher report on abortion | Americans United for Life | AUL.org: The rate and number of abortions in the United States has been in decline since peaking in 1990, but the Guttmacher Institute issued a report this week that this decline has “stalled.” The memo below evaluates the data presented by the Guttmacher report. The data demonstrates that Planned Parenthood’s business model – in particular, the use of chemical abortion drugs and increasing both the size and number of abortion providers – appears to be designed to increase abortions. This is more evidence why we must defund Planned Parenthood.

Abortion Rate Shows Medical Abortions Up

Abortion Rate’s Decline in U.S. Hits Plateau - NYTimes.com: The report found that more women were turning away from surgical abortion in favor of medication, usually mifepristone, the drug formerly known as RU-486, to end their pregnancies. The report estimates that about 17 percent of all 2008 abortions, and more than a quarter of those performed before nine weeks of gestation, were medication abortions.

Randall K. O’Bannon, director of education and research at the National Right to Life Committee, said the trend toward medication abortions had helped keep the abortion numbers steady.

Abortions Stop Falling After Previous Lows

Abortions Stop Falling After Previous Lows, Abortion Drug Used More | LifeNews.com: New figures from the Guttmacher Institute reveal the number of abortions in the United States and the abortion rate has risen slightly after its last report showed historic lows. The new numbers show the actual number of abortions in the U.S. rose from 1,206,200 in 2005 to 1,212,350 in 2008 — the first increase since steady decreases during both the 1990s and 2000s.

The institute is pro-abortion but regarded by pro-life groups as having more accurate abortion figures than the Centers for Disease Control because it receives its numbers directly from abortion businesses and accounts for all 50 states, whereas the CDC does not receive reports from California and others.

Mice affected by what their dad ate

BioNews - Mice affected by what their dad ate: Scientists found information about the diet of male mice can be passed to their offspring, causing changes to the 'switching on and off' of genes involved in processes like metabolism. The research could one day help identify people at higher risk of illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. The findings add to growing evidence that information about the environment can be passed to offspring by epigenetic mechanisms.

Abortion, Adoption, Supply and Demand

Abortion, Adoption, Supply and Demand - Megan McArdle - National - The Atlantic: "I don't think it makes much sense to argue that pro-lifers ought to focus their energy on preventing pregnancy through better birth control distribution, or facilitating adoptions. The means to (almost always when used correctly) prevent pregnancy is quite widely distributed through our nation's drugstores, and adoptions are quite well facilitated through the current network of adoption agencies. Yet nonetheless, one in five pregnancies ends in an abortion."

Several physicians were asked what everyone should know about HPV.

Screening for STDs debated after study

Screening for STDs debated after study - UPI.com: Findings suggest that physicians treating teens and young adults might consider using lab tests to screen all patients for STDs, as screening just those who say they've been sexually active may result in many cases going undiagnosed, untreated and ready to spread to others.

Fewer Teen Moms but More Babies Born to Single Moms Than Ever

Fewer Teen Moms but More Babies Born to Single Moms Than Ever | The Foundry: Conservative Policy News.: While a decrease in the teen birth rate is good and well, such news seems to portray the idea that single motherhood in the United States is on the downturn. However, just the opposite is true. In fact, the number of children born to single mothers is on the rise and has been since the 1960s. In 1964, fewer than 10 percent of babies were born to single mothers. Today that number is above 40 percent for the overall population and even higher among Hispanics and African Americans (50 and 70 percent, respectively).

Induced Abortions Linked to Preterm Delivery

Induced Abortions Linked to Preterm Delivery: According to a study in Ob/Gyn News, "A history of one or more abortions was associated with a twofold increase in preterm delivery at less than 24 weeks' gestation. A study of 3,138 women who had one or more therapeutic abortions who underwent a subsequent delivery of a live singleton or multiples and 14,778 women who had no history of abortion and who gave birth at the hospital during the same period."

Editor: AAPLOG notes that it's rare to find such an admission in American ob/gyn literature. "The relative indifference displayed by medical authorities and professional colleges in general regarding the association of abortion with subsequent increased preterm birth risk is simply stunning."

Radical Doula: My first day as an abortion doula

My first day as an abortion doula « Radical Doula: "My involvement in abortion doula work started as an idea–a concept that I first heard from doulas and doctors in Boston in 2007. I was attracted to it from the beginning. Not only did it bring together two of my big interests–pro-choice and birth activism–it just seemed to make sense. Of course the skills of a doula would be transferable to other moments like abortion.

"There are those who believe the two roles are contradictory. To those people I say: my goal during each is the same. I’m there to support the person giving birth/having an abortion/miscarriage. I’m not focused on the outcome, or the reason they are there. I’m focused on providing the best support possible. There is no contradiction there."

Editor: Her account does not ring true as a "first day." I think she's still shilling for abortion.

Flourishing Belarus pro-life movement a ray of light

Flourishing Belarus pro-life movement a ray of light | LifeSiteNews.com: In 1994, four years after the country declared independence from the Soviet Union, the abortion rate in Belarus had reached an unimaginable high of 65.8 percent of all pregnancies. Since then it has fallen steadily to 28.2 per cent in 2008, according to figures issued by the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis and the Ministry of Health.

Some of this success may be attributable to a growing pro-life movement, which is doing everything it can to make sure that those numbers continue to drop. According to the pro-life education group, The Open Hearts Foundation, the Belarus pro-life movement had a very busy year last year.

Backgrounds Suggest New Wichita Abortionists Would Be Dangers To The Public

Backgrounds Suggest New Wichita Abortionists Would Be Dangers To The Public :Operation Rescue: Two abortionists planning to open abortion clinics in Wichita may pose a danger that could be easily underestimated by Kansas authorities and the public, including possibility that they will neglect to report cases of suspected child sexual abuse.

Mila Means and Gregory S. Linhardt both have very recent and troubling personal problems that have been shown to bleed over into the professional lives of other abortionists with similar problems. More red flags wave over the fact that they are both in training at a notoriously seedy abortion mill with an elderly abortionist who has a sketchy past.

Thailand Revisits Abortion Laws After Grim Discovery

Thailand Revisits Abortion Laws After Grim Discovery : NPR: In Thailand, at Bangkok's Wat Phai Ngern, or Silver Bamboo Temple, lottery ticket vendors line the path to a mortuary where bodies are usually stored for cremation. On a recent day, one of the vendors explains that the hot-selling lottery ticket numbers that day are 02, 07 and 27.

Two is for the 2,002 dead fetuses police found in the mortuary on Nov. 16. Seven is for the number on the mortuary door where the fetuses were first discovered, after neighbors complained about a foul odor. And 27 is the date in November when the temple organized a large ceremony to pray for the souls of the aborted babies.

The vendor any many of her customers believe an unseen spiritual force near the mortuary makes those numbers especially lucky. Many Thais want to reform their country's abortion laws to make them easier to obtain.

China converts entire village into prison to contain pro-life activist

China converts entire village into prison to contain pro-life activist | LifeSiteNews.com: Chinese authorities have converted an entire village into a prison in order to prevent Chen Guangcheng, a blind, pro-life dissident, from moving freely about the country. The picturesque hamlet, situated close to a national highway, might resemble thousands of others in that part of the northeast of China. No one, however, is authorized to enter Dongshigu, nor to communicate with its inhabitants. All of the telephone lines were cut months ago. The antenna of the local mobile telephone service has been disconnected, and six surveillance cameras have been placed around the perimeter. In addition to the communications blackout and electronic surveillance, the town is guarded by about forty armed men dressed in military garb, who maintain a checkpoint for the few people permitted to come and go.

PP dumping 'choice' for 'health care'

ALL: Wednesday STOPP Report - December 29, 2010: 'Most people don't get up thinking every morning about choice, but they do get up thinking about do they have access to the health care they need or their kids need or their family needs. This is an issue of access to health care. That's our mission, and it's been pretty sobering to see how much work is left to do.' So said Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Richards was picking up on a thread being discussed more and more by pro-abortion extremists as they realize they are losing the abortion wars, as poll after poll has shown the majority of Americans now consider themselves 'pro-life' rather than 'pro-choice.'

Teen Birthrates and the Media

Teen Birthrates and the Media - By Michael J. New - The Corner - National Review Online: Before Christmas, the Centers for Disease Control released statistics showing that teen pregnancy rates in the United States have hit a record low. Not surprisingly these figures have received plenty of attention from the Washington Post and other media outlets. What is interesting is the way that the media is analyzing the decline. Many media sources have argued that the slow economy has caused teens to think twice before giving birth or engaging in sexual activity. The benefits of abstinence-only sex education receive only scant coverage.

Improving your PCC in 2011

Then review all the activities of the organization to see if they immediately apply or are if they are helpful but non-essential to the mission. Finally, begin to think through a plan to improve either first by focusing the mission or asking questions of the organization to understand if it can get better at reaching more abortion-minded women and serving them in a way that more effectively helps them have their babies. Richer girls 'more likely to have an abortion' if they fall pregnant under age

Under-age girls who become pregnant are most likely to have an abortion if they live in prosperous areas, figures show. In some of the wealthiest parts of the UK four out of five under-age pregnancies end in an abortion, but in poorer areas under-age girls are twice as likely to keep their child. Experts say it is the aspirations of well-off families that lead to a higher abortion rate, as girls opt not to miss out on their education. In poorer regions where underage pregnancy is perceived as ‘less of a problem’ fewer abortions are carried out as a result. The Unborn Paradox

The Unborn Paradox - NYTimes.com: Reality TV thrives on shocking scenes and subjects — extreme pregnancies and surgeries, suburban polygamists and the gay housewives of New York — but abortion remains a little too controversial, and a little bit too real. This omission is often cited as a victory for the pro-life movement, and in some cases that’s plainly true. But it can also be a form of cultural denial.
