Owner of Beach abortion clinic had license suspended in N.J. | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com: Dr. Steven C. Brigham had his medical license suspended last fall by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners after authorities discovered he had begun at least five late-term abortions in New Jersey and then transported the patients to his clinic in Maryland, where state law allows second-trimester abortions outside a hospital, according to news reports.
Brigham is listed as the president and secretary of two companies on the second floor of 224 Groveland Road, according to the Virginia Beach Commissioner of the Revenue's office. That also is the address of a clinic called Virginia Women's Wellness.
Brigham is not licensed to practice medicine in Virginia. He has no day-to-day involvement with the local facility, said Dr. David R. Peters, who serves as the medical director for the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood and worked for 13 years at Virginia Women's Wellness. He said the clinic is safe and well-run. 'If my sister had need of an abortion, if I could not do it, I would not hesitate to send her to Virginia Women's Wellness,' Peters said.

New Abortionist with Old Problems Takes Over California “Shop of Horrors” :Operation Rescue: A troubled abortion clinic near the U.S./Mexico border in Chula Vista, California, has opened and closed numerous times as one by one each abortionist who worked there lost medical licenses or was incarcerated for criminal activity and other abortion abuses. Now, it has reopened again with yet another disgraced abortionist, W. Constantine Mitchell at the helm.

Price of drug to prevent preemies jumps after FDA approval
Price of drug to prevent preemies jumps from $20 to $1,500 after FDA approval - latimes.com: Since 2003, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has recommended that doctors offer the progesterone shots to high-risk women. But because there has not been a commercial product available, women have obtained the drug from so-called compounding pharmacies, which make it to order. The pharmacies have typically charged about $10 to $20 per shot for the drug, which is given weekly.
Last month, however, the FDA approved a commercial form of the drug, called Makena, manufactured by K-V Pharmaceutical Co. of St. Louis. The company said Wednesday that the drug will be available for shipping March 14 and that it will cost $1,500 per dose. The company said, however, that it would establish a 'comprehensive patient assistance program' to ensure that the drug was available to every woman who needs it.

Pregnant with cancer, healing for two
Pregnant with cancer, healing for two - TODAY Health - TODAYshow.com: How do you treat cancer to save the mother — and still protect the unborn baby? It’s a growing problem that now affects as many as 1 in every 1,000 pregnant women, with about 3,500 diagnosed in the United States each year. As more women delay childbirth until they’re older, the incidence of cancer during pregnancy, particularly breast cancer, is going up.
As the number of the cases grows, however, so do the options for treatment. Instead of terminating pregnancy, once almost universally recommended, or waiting to treat the disease until after childbirth, perhaps allowing the cancer to grow, more women are urged to battle the cancer head-on.
Research shows that certain chemotherapy drugs, such as Lisa's treatments of Cytoxan and Ardriamycin, are safe during pregnancy because the drug molecules are too large to pass through the placenta. Unlike other toxins, they're prevented from reaching the baby. Growing research suggests that women treated for cancer while pregnant may do no worse than non-pregnant women, and perhaps even better.

Planned Parenthood Under the Microscope: In Defense of Kirsten Powers
Last week a Daily Beast article by Kirsten Powers generated some excitement in pro-life circles. The article entitled “Busting the Birth Control Myth” makes the case that Planned Parenthood does not deserve funding from the federal government. . . .
However, on Tuesday, Powers issued a retraction. She states that she made a “serious error in reporting this column that undermines the conclusion I drew.” She goes on to say that her argument is “not supported by the data” and that it “invalidates my piece.” . . .
Powers did make a mistake which she was right to both publicly admit and correct. However, this mistake, by itself, does not invalidate her argument. Even though her comments about trends in contraception use were based on erroneous data, she highlighted other research which seriously questions the ability of contraception funding to lower abortion rates. In fact, a look at the existing research on contraception use and abortion rates indicates that Powers’s argument was stronger than she probably realizes. National Review, Jill Stanek

Ontario: Teen abortions exceed births
Teen abortions exceed births | Canada | News | Toronto Sun: Ontario teens are increasingly turning to abortion as a method of birth control, a new study has found. Women aged 15 to 19 registered more than 150 abortions for every 100 live births, the study says. That ratio drops significantly once women break into their twenties, so the average for all ages is approximately 37 abortions per 100 live births.

Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood quickly got on the road with its own bus tour.

Just say no to feminists' boot camp
Just say no to feminists' boot camp: Over the next six weeks, millions of Americans will unwittingly shell out some $700 million to buy Girl Scout cookies. The money from these cookie sales will be used to turn young girls into militant, anti-God, men-hating citizens of a greater global universe, where everything is situational, free love is practiced and abortion is a basic human right.
Most of these girls come from conservative, God-fearing households whose parents are unaware (or in denial) that the organization has morphed into the feminists' boot camp of choice.
Examine the organizations the Girl Scouts are promoting: CARE, a leading lobbyist for abortion-on-demand worldwide, the population control organization UNICEF, MTV, the Women's Media Center founded by Steinem and Jane Fonda, and Media Matters, which is funded by George Soros and run by a cadre of left-wing progressive socialists.

Planned Parenthood's Birth-Control Myth
Planned Parenthood's Birth-Control Myth - The Daily Beast: Planned Parenthood claims women get more abortions if they don’t have access to contraception—though research suggests otherwise. . . .
Planned Parenthood continues to claim that without its contraception services the abortion rate will go up. This deception smacks of a fleecing of taxpayers in an effort to promote an ideological agenda, rather than a sincere effort to help women plan families.
What is that ideology, exactly? To find out, you have to dig through Planned Parenthood’s tax forms because the group certainly isn’t going to tell you. According to its most recent tax filing, the purpose of Planned Parenthood Federation of America is to provide leadership in “[a]chieving, through informed individual choice, a U.S. population of stable size in an optimum environment; in stimulating and sponsoring relevant biomedical, socio-economic, and demographic research.”
So it is, in reality, a population-control organization. Funny, this was never mentioned in the gauzy $200,000 advertising campaign launched last week. It also doesn’t make it into the “About Us” section of the group’s website, which repeatedly claims its mission is to protect women’s health, when in fact the real mission is to keep the birth rate at whatever level the leaders believe it should be.
Author's Note: Kirsten Powers writes, "I made a serious error in reporting this column that undermines the conclusion I drew. I compared statistics on contraceptive use from a January 2011 Guttmacher Institute fact sheet to a year 2000 study on the same issue. However, I did not realize that the 2011 fact sheet derived its statistics from the year 2000 numbers, so my argument was not supported by the data. I should also note that I sent my conclusions and the relevant numbers to a Planned Parenthood spokesman before the piece posted, but he did not correct the factual issue at the time. I am deeply sorry for the error, which invalidates my piece."
Editor's note: Kirsten, I'm confused. I appreciate your commitment to veracity, but what part of the article is now invalid? If I were you, I wouldn't go so far as to say all of it is. You still have the statistics from Spain. You still have their own documentation as to the reasons women abort. You still have the statement from Planned Parenthood's 990. You still have their admission about mammograms. It's still right and proper for you to raise questions about their funding.

What Is the Water of Life? - Answers in Genesis: Picture a desert in your mind—a dry, barren wasteland with rolling sand dunes and nothing green for miles other than an occasional cactus. That kind of desert is pictured in Isaiah 44:3. However, the focus of this passage is not on a physically dry land but rather on a spiritually dry land—the lifeless ground of people’s sin-hardened hearts.

Abortion deaths up Philly homicide stats
Abortion deaths up Philly homicide stats - UPI.com: The seven newborn babies allegedly killed by a Philadelphia abortion doctor and his staff will swell this year's homicide statistics, police said.
Lt. Ray Evers said all seven will be classified as black and male. He said the race and gender of only one, a black male, is known, but the FBI statistical system requires homicide victims be classified by race and gender, and most of Dr. Kermit Gosnell's patients were black. 'Males as a gender was picked, because we just picked males,' Evers said.

San Francisco Abortion Biz Closes After Losing Planned Parenthood Tie
San Francisco Abortion Biz Closes After Losing Planned Parenthood Tie | LifeNews.com: Planned Parenthood Golden Gate was dropped as an affiliate of the national abortion business following allegedly massive financial mismanagement. Responding to the decision, the California abortion business changed its name to Golden Gate Community Health and fired CEO Dian Harrison.
Several employees of Golden Gate Community Health posted on their Facebook accounts earlier this week that the former Planned Parenthood affiliate based in San Francisco will close this week. Satellite centers in San Rafael, Oakland, Hayward and San Mateo are expected to close immediately and all remaining abortion appointments will be routed to the main San Francisco center for two more weeks until it will close as well.
In a statement, Golden Gate Community Health said the closures came because of problems maintaining support from donors, which have split off to the new Planned Parenthood abortion clinics.

Part 8: How the politics of abortion protects bad clinics
The problems exposed in Florida's fight over abortion clinics—state neglect, pro-choice denial, and the relegation of abortion to the shadows of medicine—didn't end there. They have surfaced in other states, too.
On Sept. 2, 1989, two weeks before the Miami Herald exposé in Florida, the Boston Globe disclosed that Dr. Howard Silverman, the owner of Massachusetts' biggest chain of abortion clinics, had admitted to sexual misconduct with a female patient. . . . Like the exposed clinic operators in Florida, Silverman portrayed his unmasking as an attack on abortion rights. And, as in Florida, the Globe found that colleagues had known of his misconduct, as well as his generally bad reputation, but had kept it secret. . . .
A few days later, Chicago abortionist Arnold Bickham was arrested for practicing medicine less than a year after losing his license for gross malpractice. In the malpractice case, a woman had hemorrhaged and gone into shock after an abortion at Bickham's clinic. . . . No one could be sure how rare these offenses were, since abortion clinics in Illinois hadn't been regulated or inspected for four years, thanks to a court injunction like the one in Florida.
Another horror story surfaced in Maryland a week after the fight in Florida began. A woman lapsed into respiratory trouble while under anesthesia for an abortion at the Hillview Women's Medical Surgical Center. Despite having no anesthesiologist on hand, the clinic's medical director continued the operation. The patient went into cardiac arrest and died. . . . The clinic's owner, Barbara Lofton, blamed reports of her recklessness on the pro-life views of the local paramedic chief. He denied that he held such views. . . .
Over the years, similar cases have turned up in other states. Pennsylvania's Kermit Gosnell scandal may be the latest and biggest of these regulatory failures, but it isn't the only one. . . . For five months last year, New Jersey regulators received complaints that abortion doctor Steven Brigham, 54, was running a secret, cash-only, late-term abortion business using a risky interstate scheme—one for which he was disciplined in the 1990s. Just as in the Gosnell case, regulators took no public action against Brigham—until a police raid forced them to.
Brigham's case is still unfolding. . . . Despite the raid, a trail of botched abortions, and license suspensions in New York and New Jersey, Brigham is still operating clinics in New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Last year, Pennsylvania's Department of Health, fresh from the gruesome discoveries at Gosnell's uninspected facility, approved Brigham's transfer of his clinics to his mother's company, thereby helping him evade an order that was supposed to bar him from owning abortion clinics in the state. The order forbidding clinic ownership "does not apply" to Brigham's mother's company, a health department spokeswoman told the Inquirer. And guess where Brigham has opened his latest franchise? Florida. Slate

Part 7: How the politics of abortion protects bad clinics
Grizzle [the pro-choice Florida state Senator] was mystified by the opposition. She feared for every woman in South Florida whoopened the Yellow Pages to find an abortion clinic. To her, the issue wasn't choice; it was safety. And hadn't the political war of the last year proved the dominance of the abortion rights lobby? She saw no need to be so defensive. But the clinic operators and their allies refused to take chances. "Once you compromise, they chip away at everything, and you're compromising women's lives," NOW's lobbyist argued.
Her opponents [the abortion lobby] said the state had "not presented one shred of evidence showing that any clinics are dangerous." In a terse order issued six weeks later, Gonzalez threw out the state's request. "What I think this means," said Carres, triumphantly, "is that nothing will be changed, ever." For the most part, she was right. It took Florida 15 years to enact new clinic regulations, and those regulations apply only after the first trimester. For 90 percent of the state's abortions, nothing has changed. Slate

Part 6: How the politics of abortion protects bad clinics
Sen. Mary Grizzle, a pro-choice Republican, sent a survey to every abortion clinic licensed by [Florida]. She requested a list of the clinic's active doctors and staff "to determine the numbers and types of health care professionals" involved in abortions. Many providers recoiled. For years, pro-life extremists had identified, tracked down, and harassed doctors who performed abortions. The providers feared that the lists would fall into the hands of those extremists. They protested and contacted the ACLU and Protectors of Women's Abortion Rights, an alliance of 34 Florida clinics. [The ACLU] advised them to withhold the names and [said Grizzle's office] would have to subpoena the lists to get them. . . .
Planned Parenthood's Florida affiliates referred several thousand women to abortion providers each year. If any of those providers screwed up, her organization could be sued. For that reason, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America regularly and thoroughly inspected any clinic or doctor's office that sought patient referrals for abortions. This responsibility made Planned Parenthood fairly tolerant of clinic regulation. How could it oppose standards less stringent than its own? . . .
Clinics frequently failed to disclose to Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services the names of all their doctors. How could it oppose standards less stringent than its own? . . .

Part 5: How the politics of abortion protects bad clinics
Pro-choice lawmakers in Florida insisted on treating abortion just like other medical procedures. Then they demanded exceptions. Then they complained that a new law to make that authority clear would be unconstitutional. They said Florida should wait for the U.S. Supreme Court to clarify which regulations were constitutional. And when a moderate pro-choice legislator proposed to spend public funds to help poor women offset the cost of new regulations the vice president of the Florida Abortion Council declined the offer.
One bill under consideration copied the standards of the National Abortion Federation almost verbatim. Despite this, [the FAC] refused to accept it. The proposed regulations were "too rigid." Either that, or they were "too vague." . . .
Perhaps abortion rights lobbyists could have killed the bill on their own. But the failure of clinic regulation in Florida, as in Pennsylvania, was a collaborative tragedy in which each camp played its part. Hours before the committee was to vote, Florida's top pro-life lobbyist told reporters that if any clinic safety bill reached the Senate floor, pro-lifers would amend it to restrict abortions generally. When Malchon heard about his threat, she was furious. The deal was off. Slate

Pro-aborts want an international right to abortion
Pro-aborts want an international right to abortion: that’s completely upside-down! | LifeSiteNews.com: Advocates of legal abortion not only want to keep Roe vs. Wade intact. They want to establish an international right to abortion, enforced on an international level, and overriding the decisions of individual nations to protect their own preborn children. As usual, they have it completely upside-down. The international right that has to be proclaimed and protected is the right to life.
Missouri Senate Holding Bill for PCCs Hostage
Missouri Senate Holding Bill for Pregnancy Centers Hostage | LifeNews.com: Although SB 204 has 25 co-sponsoring state Senators in the 34-member Missouri state Senate, the bill failed to move forward. SB 204 continues an existing tax credit that Missouri residents can claim when making a contribution to a pregnancy resource center to help women find abortion alternatives. However, the legislation faces an uncertain future.
The pregnancy resource center credit allows a donor to take a tax credit for up to 50% of their donation and has been responsible for helping pregnancy centers save the lives of unborn children by providing pregnancy testing, counseling, emotional and material support and other services to assist women in carrying their pregnancies to term.

SPECIAL REPORT: Widespread abortion abuses in Texas exposed
From December, 2010 through February, 2011, Operation Rescue conducted an investigation of a dozen Texas abortion clinics and obtained hard evidence of violations of both State and Federal laws at each and every facility.
The abortion clinics that were subject of this investigation were randomly chosen. Investigators and researchers engaged in undercover telephone calls and visits to the clinics posing as the everyday woman seeking an abortion. In addition, trash that had been discarded by the abortion clinics was collected, sorted, and documented.
Most of the violations fell into five broad categories:
• The illegal disposal of hazardous bio-medical and infectious waste, including human urine, blood, and tissue that were recovered from open trash bins, along with the discovery of dirty and poorly maintained conditions inside the abortion clinics.
• Drug violations through the illegal disposal of vials still containing controlled substances that were found mixed in with bloody waste from the abortions.
• Massive violations of the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which is designed to protect the privacy of patients and their medical information. Hundreds of patient names, addresses, and other sensitive information was discovered and recovered that had been illegally dumped or discarded by the abortion clinics.
• Widespread abuses to the Texas mandated informed consent laws, where abortionists were recorded mocking the information or giving the information in such an inaudible manner that patients are heard on the recording complaining that they could not understand a word that was being said. This includes violations of the 24-hour waiting period.
• Undercover calls and visits to the abortion clinics revealed a pattern of willingness to help minors evade parental consent laws and ignore the mandatory reporting of child sex abuse.

Important Announcement Wednesday Concerning Discovery of Abortion Abuses
Important Announcement Wednesday Concerning Discovery of Abortion Abuses :Operation Rescue: Operation Rescue recently conducted an audit of a dozen randomly selected abortion clinic in Texas. What we have discovered is disturbing.
At each and every abortion clinic that was the subject of our investigation, there were at least some violations of state and federal laws as well as health codes. In every case, laws were broken. Because of this, women’s health and privacy are routinely placed at risk.
“Our investigation focused on what the everyday woman would experience as a matter of routine at Texas abortion clinics,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “The general disrespect for the health, safety, and privacy of women – as well as the general public – was more than evident.
On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, Troy Newman and other activists will conduct a press conference in Austin where details of this investigation will be discussed.

Contraception not the solution
I want to turn back the clock -- to a time when we valued love and marriage and didn't expect, support and even encourage promiscuity. Beyond legislation, the spending fight over Planned Parenthood is a call to arms for a new sexual revolution. It's about wanting more for ourselves and for those whom we love. It's about ending the surrender to a contraceptive mentality that treats human sexuality as just another commercial transaction.
Perhaps nothing better illustrates that than a recent commercial for a contraceptive called Beyaz. Women walk into a store and literally shop for men. "It's good to have choices." A woman happily shakes her head at the stork and its offerings in a sassy "we girls can do anything" kind of way, promenading through an adult Barbie commercial complete with Ken, a dream house and a trip to Paris.
That commercial does not, needless to say, do justice to the pain and desperation many women suffer when they find themselves thinking about an abortion, or popping pills in pursuit of something that masks itself as satisfaction but is really just a bad substitute, oftentimes making true happiness all the more illusory. NYC Council to Target Pregnancy Centers
Council to Target Pregnancy Centers - WSJ.com: The New York City Council plans to pass legislation next week requiring centers that cater to pregnant women to say whether they offer abortions even though a similar law was recently found to be unconstitutional.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and the bill's primary sponsor, Council Member Jessica Lappin, said they are confident the New York bill will pass legal muster because it's significantly different than the law that was struck down.
But abortion opponents insist the city's bill still infringes on free speech rights. They warn it will draw New York into a costly court battle it can little afford while grappling with multimillion-dollar budget deficits.

Interpretation is the key to correct view on humanity
A popular seminary professor believes Adam and Eve were animals before God breathed the breath of life into them. At that point, they experienced “amnesia of their former animal life” so that they would no longer remember their animal past. This ideology flies in the face of Christ’s example and highlights the importance of being able to properly interpret the Bible. In this postmodern age, bizarre interpretations are accepted because people believe they have the right to decide for themselves what a passage means. In other words, meaning is in the eye of the beholder, so you can decide truth for yourself. Answers in Genesis

Outrageous! Pro-Life NYC Billboard Taken Down
Pro-Life NYC Billboard on Black Abortion Rate Taken Down | LifeNews.com: The outdoor advertising company that sold the space to the pro-life group for the billboard said on Thursday that it would remove the image because the employees at the Mexican restaurant located on the bottom floor of the several story building bearing the ad were facing harassment over its pro-life message.

Yesterday, somebody came into the restaurant harassing the waiters and waitresses. I don’t want any violence to happen around the buildings there.”
Yet, a woman answering the phone at Lupe’s East L.A. Kitchen could not verify to the Times that any harassment had been taking place.

With approximately 1.2 million abortions done annually in the United States via surgical abortions or the mifepristone abortion drug, Planned Parenthood has increased its share of the abortion industry to 27.6 percent of all abortions done annually.

South Dakota House OKs Bill For CPC Visit Before Abortion
South Dakota House OKs Bill For CPC Visit Before Abortion | LifeNews.com: The South Dakota state House on Tuesday approved a bill to require women to visit a crisis pregnancy center before going to an abortion business if they are considering having an abortion. The idea behind the bill — which goes further than legislation in other states — is to get women tangible pregnancy help and support that they won’t normally find at an abortion center.
Rep. Roger Hunt, a Republican who sponsored the bill, said he’s been contacted by many women who made it clear they did not get adequate information or counseling about abortion before getting their abortion at the Planned Parenthood in Sioux Falls, the state’s only abortion center. Women have told him of how they have been pressured into getting abortions but that the Planned Parenthood abortion center does nothing to help them resist it — just selling them an abortion.

Women have told him of how they have been pressured into getting abortions but that the Planned Parenthood abortion center does nothing to help them resist it — just selling them an abortion.
Late-Term Abortion Biz in Seattle Evicted After Missing Rent
Late-Term Abortion Biz in Seattle Evicted After Missing Rent | LifeNews.com: Jonathan Bloedow of the blog Abortion in Washington obtained court records related to the eviction of Cedar River Clinics, which advertises abortions up to 26 weeks into pregnancy, and had rented office space since 2003 on Interurban Avenue. The records pertain to a lawsuit the owner of the corporate office suite filed against the abortion business. “On or about August 7, 2010, a three-day notice to pay $16,633.21 or vacate was served upon defendant,” reads the lawsuit. “As of this date, defendant has failed to cure said default or vacate the Premises.”
Pro-Kline report concealed for months
Pro-Kline report concealed for months | CJOnline.com: The state's disciplinary board for lawyers concealed for 20 months an internal investigative report concluding no probable cause existed to justify ethics complaints against former Attorney General Phill Kline tied to his criminal inquiries into abortion clinics.
Kline, in an exclusive interview with The Topeka Capital-Journal, said the document would have been valuable during his unsuccessful August 2008 election campaign for Johnson County district attorney and would have contributed over ensuing years to countering claims he overstepped ethical boundaries as a prosecutor.

Planned Parenthood, Tiller failed to report 164 cases of child statutory rape
Breaking: Planned Parenthood, Tiller failed to report 164 cases of child statutory rape - Jill Stanek: In an ethics trial that is seeking to determine in part whether Kline acted too aggressively to enforce Kansas child rape laws in his capacity as Attorney General or Johnson Co. District Attorney, Kline just revealed to the court under oath that he found 166 instances during a specific time period when girls 14 years old and younger got abortions at clinics owned either by late-term abortionist George Tiller or Planned Parenthood of Overland Park.
But during that same time period, Kline testified, Planned Parenthood reported only one case of child rape, and Tiller reported only one case of child rape. This means there were 164 instances when girls 14 years old and younger had abortions at one of those abortion clinics, and the clinics failed to report the abortions to authorities.

HHS Decision to Overturn Protections for Pro-Life Docs Could Hurt Pregnancy Centers
HHS Decision to Overturn Protections for Pro-Life Docs Could Hurt Pregnancy Centers, Care Net Says - Christian Newswire: Melinda Delahoyde said that her network of 1,130 pregnancy center affiliates could feel the damaging blow of the Administration's action. 'Pregnancy centers empower women facing unplanned pregnancy to choose abortion alternatives,' Delahoyde said. 'To accomplish this, we offer critical, free medical services, such as limited obstetrical ultrasounds and STD testing. Because of our commitment to providing alternatives to abortion, we rely on the availability of pro-life medical professionals -- nurses, physicians, sonographers and others. If the rights of these individuals are violated, then they will simply leave the field of practice or not enter it altogether. With more than 580 pregnancy centers in the Care Net network that offer medical services, we're simply not willing to take that risk.'
Virginia House Revives Bill Targeting Abortion Clinics
Virginia House Revives Bill Targeting Abortion Center Problems | LifeNews.com: The Virginia state House has revived legislation the state Senate killed that would target the problems at abortion clinics and put more regulations in place that would hold them to higher health and safety limits.
Del. Kathy Byron, a Republican, on Monday put forward an amendment to SB 924, a Senate bill on health and safety regulations for hospitals. The amendment essentially attached the pro-life bill the Virginia state Senate Education and Health Committee killed earlier this month to the legislation.
Because of the change to the Senate bill, it now goes back to the state Senate for a concurrence vote — but pro-life advocates have a better chance of getting the measure approved because the full Senate votes on the bill rather than just the members of the committee known for killing pro-life legislation.

Part 4: How the politics of abortion protects bad clinics
Unsafe abortion clinics exposed in Florida: What health inspectors and reporters found. - By William Saletan - Slate Magazine: Rather than help clean up, pro-choice leaders stonewalled. First they complained that the state Department of Professional Regulation was plotting to tighten licensing rules for abortions in doctors' offices. Then they claimed that by failing to crack down on doctors' offices as well as clinics, HRS proved it wasn't really concerned about health. Meanwhile, they cited HRS's regulatory failure as evidence that further regulations wouldn't help. 'If they can't enforce the laws that exist,' asked a state senator, 'why do they need stronger laws?'
Sensing defeat, Gov. Martinez gave up on his original regulatory plan. Instead, on the advice of HRS, he proposed milder sanitation, staffing, and equipment rules drawn from the National Abortion Federation standards—with which half of Florida's abortion clinics already complied—and from standards already imposed on birthing centers. Still, pro-choicers wouldn't budge.

Part 3: How the politics of abortion protects bad clinics
[The Miami Herald's] Sontag reported pro-choice leaders refused legislative remedies, insisting that current regulations sufficed. But Sontag pointed out that the sole regulatory hurdle, a license, required only a $35 fee and an inspection. She then discredited the inspection system with a single illustration:
When Ellen Williams died after an abortion at the Dadeland Family Planning Clinic, Dade Medical Examiner Joe Davis requested a special investigation. Investigators checked everything they could by law: The clinic indeed had copies of its doctors' licenses; patient records were kept; fetal remains were adequately disposed of. In other words, the clinic passed. . . .In Florida, such arguments about the futility of regulation had been made before, but in a different context: gun control. . . . Liberals dismissed these arguments in the context of gun control but parroted them when the debate shifted to abortion. And some abortion rights advocates went further. Recognizing parallels between the right to privacy and the right to bear arms, they explicitly sought to emulate the National Rifle Association. . . . "There are 70 million gun owners. But there are twice as many womb owners." . . . Surgical equipment didn't kill women; bad doctors killed women. No law aimed at clinics, their equipment, or their records would fix that. Slate
Part 2: How the politics of abortion protects bad clinics
Saletan writes of having "seen a story like the one in Philadelphia before." It happened two decades ago in Florida. The political stakes were higher, and none of the doctors involved was as bad as Gosnell. But much of what's documented in the Philadelphia report—unsanitary conditions, sloppy anesthesia, unlicensed practitioners, busted emergency equipment, lax record-keeping, and a patient's death—was found in the Florida clinics, too. And when legislators tried to step in, abortion rights advocates stopped them. . . .
The Florida Abortion Council, known as FLAC, included 18 of Florida's 48 providers. Thirteen of its members, along with seven other Florida clinics, belonged to NAF, the national clinic alliance. Both groups followed rigorous safety standards. NAF devoted three meetings each year to discussing medical precautions and innovations. FLAC held its own meetings on quality control. It was the only such statewide organization in the country, and its leaders were duly proud. Its members were mission clinics, and virtually all of Florida's independent feminist providers belonged to it.
Twenty-three clinics in Florida belonged neither to NAF nor to FLAC. Some had failed to meet the requisite standards. Others hadn't bothered to apply. . . . In south Florida, conscientious providers privately blacklisted the bad clinics and avoided referring women to them. Many referred patients only to NAF or FLAC members. But making this private rating system public seemed unthinkable. As little as the good providers trusted the bad ones, they trusted the government less. Nothing would make them break their silence. Not even a woman's death. Slate

Part 1: How the politics of abortion protects bad clinics
Kermit Gosnell and abortion clinic regulation: Did pro-choice politics protect him? - By William Saletan - Slate Magazine: At the root of the state's lax oversight, pro-choice legal scholars see a failure to recognize abortion as health care. 'By and large, our policymakers have never viewed abortion as a medical procedure—instead placing it under the Pennsylvania Criminal Code—and therefore haven't nurtured a system of abortion care that is woman-focused,' write Carol Tracy and Susan Frietsche of the Philadelphia-based Women's Law Project. 'The commonwealth's focus has been on denying access, not protecting the health and safety of women who need this medical care.' The Department of Health's legal analysis illustrates this mentality. The department assumes—wrongly, in the grand jury's view—that since abortion clinics are regulated under their own subsection of Pennsylvania law, they're immune to dozens of pages of rules that apply to ambulatory surgical facilities.
Black History Month: NYC billboard fights abortion in minority neighborhoods
That's Abortion: A billboard that reads, 'The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb,' has been placed in the heart of SoHo by Life Always™ as a part of a new national campaign to expose the truth about how Planned Parenthood targets minority neighborhoods as they perform over 300,000 abortions a year. This particular billboard is about half a mile from a Planned Parenthood abortion facility.

Real Cases: California Planned Parenthood Concealed Rape of 11-Year-Old Girl: At Live Action we have investigated Planned Parenthood’s failure to report child sexual abuse to law enforcement and have caught them on camera failing to properly report over 14 times. Some have asked, are there real cases of this happening as well? The answer is yes. This post highlights the first of many real cases that we will be highlighting on the coming days.
Exacting Revenge in Kansas: A Matter of Injustice
Exacting Revenge in Kansas: A Matter of Injustice - By Kathryn Jean Lopez - The Corner - National Review Online: Before there was a House vote to potentially begin to end funding of Planned Parenthood, as there was Friday; before there was a 22-year-old girl named Lila Rose leading private investigations exposing Planned Parenthood as a safe haven for pimps of underage girls; before there was a Philadelphia prosecutor exposing a “house of horrors” too long protected by abortion politics, there was Phill Kline, a law-enforcement official doing his job.Today Kline remains the only prosecutor in the United States to have brought charges against Planned Parenthood. And for this, Planned Parenthood and its allies are determined to see him pay.
. . . . What a relief to Kansans that a man who no longer holds elective office nor lives in the state is being persecuted for trying to hold taxpayer-funded Planned Parenthood accountable for allegedly refusing to report statutory rape (a practice we have now seen is not foreign to Planned Parenthood and its mission).
Former Planned Parenthood director: complicity with sex trafficking happens ‘all the time’
The shocking scenes of complicity with illicit sex trafficking at Planned Parenthood clinics captured by undercover investigators and published this month are a common occurrence thanks to the abortion giant’s “idea of tolerance” of various sexual lifestyles, a former Planned Parenthood director told Fox’s Bill O’Reilly this past weekend.
“It happens all the time, it happened at my clinic,” said Abby Johnson, the former director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, Texas. “You let it happen?” O’Reilly challenged, to which Johnson replied, “Absolutely. I let it happen.” She suggested that Planned Parenthood workers may not even realize what they are doing because of their employer’s philosophy of sexual “tolerance.”
“Planned Parenthood has created this idea of tolerance,” she explained. “They want to tolerate all these lifestyles, and all these different walks of life for their clients; they forget to protect their clients. They forget to protect these minors that are being abused by pimps and being abused by older men. They forget to protect these women that they’re there to help.” LifeSiteNews

Medical group slammed for ‘biased’ abortion guidance
Medical group slammed for ‘biased’ abortion guidance | News | The Christian Institute: A major medical group has been accused of ‘perpetuating the myth’ that abortion has few physical or psychological consequences for women. The criticism of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists comes as it conducts a review of its abortion guidance.
Dr Peter Saunders, chief executive of the Christian Medical Fellowship, has questioned the transparency of the review and warned that those charged with revising the controversial document are “almost exclusively ‘pro-choice.’” The guidance, recommends that women seeking an abortion should be told that most women who have an abortion do not experience adverse psychological effects.
