What does this say about our culture? These young people embrace an extreme heightened sense of discipline when it comes to training their bodies for an athletic event. Yet, when one of them chooses to exercise such discipline in the realm of sexual purity, it is ridiculed. Isn’t it ironic that freedom of “choice” is so often trumpeted by the media, yet this young woman’s choice is mocked?

To call it hypocrisy is an understatement. As a parent, I’ve been faced with the question of why those who choose purity face such abrasive opposition. This is what I shared with my sons, “At any moment you could choose to live like them; however they can never again be like you.”

"I wish my mother had aborted me"

Lynn Beisner writes in The Guardian: 

It is true that in the past 12 years, I have been able to rise above the circumstances of my birth and build a life that I truly love. But no one should have to make such a Herculean struggle for simple normalcy. Even given the happiness and success I now enjoy, if I could go back in time and make the choice for my mother, it would be abortion.

The world would not be a darker or poorer place without me. Actually, in terms of contributions to the world, I am a net loss. Everything that I have done – including parenting, teaching, researching, and being a loving partner – could have been done as well, if not better by other people. Any positive contributions that I have made are completely offset by what it has cost society to help me overcome the disadvantages and injuries of my childhood to become a functional and contributing member of society.

It is not easy to say, "I wish my mother had aborted me." The right would have us see abortion as women acting out of cowardice, selfishness, or convenience. But for many women, like my mother, abortion would be an inconvenient act of courage and selflessness. I am sad for both of us that she could not find the courage and selflessness. But my attitude is that as long as I am already here, I might as well do all I can to make the world a better place, to ease the suffering of others, and to experience love and life to its fullest.

Editor: There's so much here to comment on . . . where to begin? She actually makes some good points about some pro-life arguments -- they are entirely too subjective. But I don't believe subjectivity can be discounted completely, especially when you consider them from a post-modern perspective (all views are valid). 

Aside from all the things she suffered in the past, Beisner's greatest suffering is caused by blindness to the biblical worldview. It would explain suffering, God's sovereignty, the worth of an individual, and our purpose in life.

Case Against Abortion Giant Advances | Planned Parenthood, American Center for Law and Justice ACLJ: The  American Center for Law and Justice lawsuit against Planned Parenthood in Texas alleges that the abortion giant defrauded taxpayers by charging state and federal governments for services not actually provided, medically unnecessary services, and services that are not covered under Medicaid and other programs. On Friday, a federal court agreed with the ACLJ that these allegations, if proven, constitute fraud in violation of federal law. The federal court in Texas denied Planned Parenthood’s attempt to have this critical case against the abortion giant thrown out.

Study: Abortion has more negative parenting impact than pregnancy loss | ProLife NZ: A new review of studies examining various types of prenatal loss and the effects on subsequent parenting has concluded that abortion may be “particularly damaging to the parenting process.”

The article, published in Current Women’s Health Reviews, looked at already published studies on miscarriage, induced abortion and adoption. The author, Priscilla Coleman of Bowling Green State University, focused on psychological reactions to these various types of loss and discussed how they might affect a mother’s relationship with children born after the pregnancy loss.

Six million abortions – just 143 to save the mum’s life | News | The Christian Institute: According to government figures 6.4 million abortions were performed on residents of England and Wales between 1968 and 2011. Of these just 143 (0.006 per cent) were performed to save the life of the mother or to prevent serious permanent injury to the physical or mental health of the mother. A further 23,778 (0.37%) abortions were performed because the continuance of pregnancy would involve the risk to the life of the woman, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated.

The figures were revealed in response to a Parliamentary Question by Lord Alton of Liverpool, who blogged, “When the case for allowing legal abortion was first placed before Parliament it was argued that the law needed to be changed to deal with extremely serious situations. More than 6 million abortions later the figures reveal that in 99.5% of cases where an unborn child’s life is ended there is no risk to the health of the mother."
