Mother Of Woman Who Died After Abortion Sues Planned Parenthood, Hospital

Mother Of Woman Who Died After Abortion Sues Planned Parenthood, Hospital « CBS Chicago: The mother of 24-year-old Tonya Reaves filed a wrongful death lawsuit Monday against Planned Parenthood of Illinois and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. An autopsy found she died of a hemorrhage following a cervical dilation and evacuation performed during an intrauterine pregnancy, according to the medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled an accident.

Dorsey Johns, Reaves’ mother, claims staff at the Planned Parenthood clinic “carelessly performed” the elective abortion and failed to properly monitor and assess her daughter’s condition after the procedure, according to the suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court. The suit further claims the clinic did not do enough to stop Reaves’ bleeding, and that staff members failed to adequately warn an on-call doctor about the potentially life-threatening condition.

Abortionist admits, ‘most women having abortions are not raped’

LifeSiteNews: Shortly before controversy erupted over Congressman Todd Akin’s remarks on abortion in cases of rape, an abortionist bluntly admitted that “most women having abortions are not raped.” D.C. abortionist Willie Parker was responding to an article on the ‘Advancing new standards in reproductive health’ blog of the University of California, San Fransico.

Author Tray Weitz had critiqued the approach of advocates for abortion of using hard cases to make the case for legal abortion. She suggested rather an approach that would validate abortion whatever the circumstances – a ‘rights’-based approach. Parker notes that when abortion “advocates have sought stories from me to make the case for abortion, it has always been a request for tragic circumstances, the stories felt to be the most likely ones to move opinion. The reality is that that is not the typical patient I see, as most women having abortions are not raped or are not carrying a lethally flawed fetus.”

Georgia abortion clinic has violated regs AND waivers for two decades

Stop the madness: Georgia abortion clinic has violated regs AND waivers for two decades | LifeSiteNews.com: In 1994, the Georgia State Planning Agency notified the architect designing Atlanta Women’s Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia, that plans for its two-story late-term abortion clinic needed to include an elevator. The clinic’s owner, HUMEDCO Corporation, which runs a chain of three abortion clinics, claimed it would be too expensive to add an elevator and requested a waiver.

The Georgia Department of Human Services granted the waiver, through August 31, 2005. It went on to grant another waiver, through August 31, 2012. The terms in both cases were that AWMC had to notify prospective patients of the stairs, escort recovering patients down the stairs, and also notify 911 operators that there was no elevator in the event of an emergency.

The clinic was recently found to be not in compliance, and yet it has not been shut down.

Woman Conceived in Rape Responds to Akin Abortion Controversy

Woman Conceived in Rape Responds to Akin Abortion Controversy | LifeNews.com: Rebecca Kiessling responded to the comments saying that the use of the term “legitimate rape” was unnecessary and improper and she gave her advice for how pro-life candidates can thoughtfully and articulately address the sensitive subject of rape and abortion. “If you are 100% pro-life with no rape exceptions, there is no need to question the veracity of a rape victims’ account, because you are against all abortions. It would not matter if a woman was not or not raped.”

Many political candidates stumble over the question of rape and abortion. Kiessling gives a three-step process in terms of how candidates should answer the question:
1. The Supreme Court has said that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment for rapists and that rapists don’t deserve the death penalty. I don’t think the innocent child conceived in rape deserves the death penalty for the crimes of her father. It seems to me that is cruel and unusual punishment.
2. Rape victims are four times more likely to die within the next year after the abortion, with a higher rate of suicide, murder, drug overdose, etc.. As someone who really cares about rape victims, I want to protect them from the rapist, and from the abortion, and not the baby. A baby is not the worst thing that could ever happen to a rape victim — an abortion is. We need to educate the American public on the truth in this matter and not make public policy based on myth and misinformation.
3. Rape victims choose abortion at half the rate of the average unplanned pregnancy, which is over 50%. Only 15-25% of rape victims choose abortion, depending on the study. The majority of rape victims choose to raise her child — not “the rapist’s baby” — HER child.

Knoxville abortion clinic blames closure on new TN law

Knoxville abortion clinic blames closure on new TN law | The Tennessean | tennessean.com: A longtime Knoxville abortion provider closed its doors, blaming a newly enacted Tennessee law that requires doctors performing abortions to hold admitting privileges at local hospitals. The Volunteer Women’s Medical Clinic had two physicians providing abortions. One died after suffering a stroke within days of obtaining hospital privileges, said clinic director Deb Walsh. Another retired physician working with the clinic has not obtained privileges.

In a letter to supporters, Walsh wrote: "I've been able to keep the doors open and the phone staff working up until this week. We've been working on legal remedies, injunction, etc., but I was unable to bridge the financial gap of paying the monthly lease and operating expenses without knowing when we could resume seeing patients. I'm supposed to be out of the building (5000+sq.ft.) before Monday morning and I plan to somehow achieve that. I have visions of carting all the furniture and equipment across the street to the Crisis Pregnancy Center and piling it up on their lawn rather than going through the tedious task of finding a place for everything."

Life Issues Institute - The Latest News: The Unofficial Olympic Sport: Hurdler Lolo Jones was famously quoted as saying, “If there’s virgins out there, I just want to let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.” Bradley Mattes comments:
What does this say about our culture? These young people embrace an extreme heightened sense of discipline when it comes to training their bodies for an athletic event. Yet, when one of them chooses to exercise such discipline in the realm of sexual purity, it is ridiculed. Isn’t it ironic that freedom of “choice” is so often trumpeted by the media, yet this young woman’s choice is mocked?
To call it hypocrisy is an understatement. As a parent, I’ve been faced with the question of why those who choose purity face such abrasive opposition. This is what I shared with my sons, “At any moment you could choose to live like them; however they can never again be like you.”

"I wish my mother had aborted me"

Lynn Beisner writes in The Guardian
It is true that in the past 12 years, I have been able to rise above the circumstances of my birth and build a life that I truly love. But no one should have to make such a Herculean struggle for simple normalcy. Even given the happiness and success I now enjoy, if I could go back in time and make the choice for my mother, it would be abortion.
The world would not be a darker or poorer place without me. Actually, in terms of contributions to the world, I am a net loss. Everything that I have done – including parenting, teaching, researching, and being a loving partner – could have been done as well, if not better by other people. Any positive contributions that I have made are completely offset by what it has cost society to help me overcome the disadvantages and injuries of my childhood to become a functional and contributing member of society.
It is not easy to say, "I wish my mother had aborted me." The right would have us see abortion as women acting out of cowardice, selfishness, or convenience. But for many women, like my mother, abortion would be an inconvenient act of courage and selflessness. I am sad for both of us that she could not find the courage and selflessness. But my attitude is that as long as I am already here, I might as well do all I can to make the world a better place, to ease the suffering of others, and to experience love and life to its fullest.
Editor: There's so much here to comment on . . . where to begin? She actually makes some good points about some pro-life arguments -- they are entirely too subjective. But I don't believe subjectivity can be discounted completely, especially when you consider them from a post-modern perspective (all views are valid).

Aside from all the things she suffered in the past, Beisner's greatest suffering is caused by blindness to the biblical worldview. It would explain suffering, God's sovereignty, the worth of an individual, and our purpose in life.

Six million abortions in the UK since abortion legalized – just 143 to save the mum’s life

Six million abortions – just 143 to save the mum’s life | News | The Christian Institute: According to government figures 6.4 million abortions were performed on residents of England and Wales between 1968 and 2011. Of these just 143 (0.006 per cent) were performed to save the life of the mother or to prevent serious permanent injury to the physical or mental health of the mother. A further 23,778 (0.37%) abortions were performed because the continuance of pregnancy would involve the risk to the life of the woman, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated.

The figures were revealed in response to a Parliamentary Question by Lord Alton of Liverpool, who blogged, “When the case for allowing legal abortion was first placed before Parliament it was argued that the law needed to be changed to deal with extremely serious situations. More than 6 million abortions later the figures reveal that in 99.5% of cases where an unborn child’s life is ended there is no risk to the health of the mother."

Appeals Court Blocks Arizona Abortion Law

Appeals Court Blocks Arizona Abortion Law - WSJ.com: A federal appeals court temporarily halted a controversial Arizona law that would ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The decision is a victory for abortion-rights advocates who have sought to block the enforcement of the new law, which was scheduled to take effect on Thursday.

The law, which was passed by the state's Republican legislature and signed by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer in April, would criminalize most abortions after 20 weeks except in medical emergencies. The decision comes just two days after a federal judge refused to block the statute, saying it didn't impose a "substantial obstacle" to the procedure. The judge said it was consistent with standards set by federal courts, and that Arizona had the right to enact such a law.

Just say no: Why abstinence is the better way to go | LifeSiteNews.com: Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA), abstinence, truly lowers the rates of sexually transmitted infections and unintended teenage pregnancies as opposed to comprehensive sex education (CSE), which only focuses on reducing these risks.

Editor: Teaching young people to "just say no" is good in that it's like the parental instructions of Proverbs 1:8-9 -- "a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck." But as experience has shown, young people -- especially Christians -- must also be encouraged to appropriate these lessons for themselves, maturing to the point (as described in Prov. 2:10) where "wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul." A Fact Ignored by the WHO

A Fact Ignored by the WHO | First Things: “Experts do not know all the elements that can set off early labor.” The Times quoted an author of the WHO report: “Even after controlling for risk factors like age, poverty, smoking, obesity and diabetes, ‘we really don’t have an explanation for what’s behind it.’”

Unfortunately, one significant, and modifiable, risk factor for preterm birth was completely ignored by the WHO report: prior termination of pregnancy. There is a large and growing body of scientific data documenting this risk factor for pre-term birth. More than 120 peer-reviewed studies, from more than a dozen countries, have found a statistically significant increased risk of preterm birth or low-birth weight after a termination of pregnancy.
