Abortion Industry Forced to Suspend Centers Employing Gosnell

Abortion Industry Forced to Suspend Centers Employing Gosnell | LifeNews.com: Following revelations that Gosnell is associated with two other abortion centers in Louisiana and Delaware, NAF has mad the decision to suspend the memberships of both. Atlantic Women’s Medical Services, the Delaware abortion business that employed Gosnell one day a week to do abortions, and the Delta Clinic abortion center of Baton Rouge, have both had their memberships suspended. Leroy Brinkley owns both abortion businesses. Atlantic operates abortion centers in Wilmington and Dover.

The News Journal newspaper indicates NAF’s suspension means it will no longer be referring women to either abortion center and they will not be listed on the NAF web site, but they will remain open for business because NAF does not have the ability to close them down. The decision by NAF reportedly came after a vote on Friday of its board of directors.

How are your clients like the woman at the well?

What the Samaritan woman was so ignorant of was the fact that she had been coming daily to a deep well of water that had been God's gift of refreshment to man and beast since Jacob's time, yet there was a deeper well of spiritual truth so necessary for man's hidden needs, of which she was unconscious.

She was a traveler in the journey of life, travel-stained by her sins, but had not discovered as yet the fountain opened for uncleanness. Instead of Christ begging her for a refreshing draught of water, she should have been beseeching Him for the unfailing supply of spiritual water from the eternal well. All the Women of the Bible

Woman Who Had Abortion Finds Fault with Danish Abortion Study

Woman Who Had Abortion Finds Fault with Positive Abortion Study | Christianpost.com: Georgette Forney, a co-founder of Silent No More Awareness Campaign, criticized the recent Danish study for not going deeper to find the true mental health issues that result for abortion. “They didn’t address the women who may be feeling depressed but don’t go into a hospital.”

Some March for Life fun facts

Some March for Life fun facts and a few thoughts on media blackouts | LifeSiteNews.com: Most protest marches and demonstrations on the Mall are one-time events and, it being the capital of the most powerful nation on earth, it has all the biggest ones. The March for Life is one of only two that are held annually. The other one is “Rolling Thunder,” a demonstration of bikers for the benefit of American POWs held every year on Memorial Day. This means that with this year’s rough estimate of 400,000, the March for Life in Washington is by far the largest single annual political event in the United States. And possibly in the western world.

Pro-life people are also not the only ones who complain of “media blackout.” It’s a surprise to see that pro-abortion demonstrators complain almost as often as we do that the media is ignoring them or giving unbalanced accounts. Yes, it’s true. It may prompt our jaws to drop in incredulity, but leftists, progressives, feminists, abortionists and homosexualists regularly complain, at least in the U.S., of a pervading right-wing bias in the media that makes it impossible for them to get their message out. No, I’m not making it up.

Christians Should Never Offend Anyone, Right?

Christians Should Never Offend Anyone - Answers in Genesis: Is the belief that Christians should never offend anyone a biblical guideline? This supposed guideline could be a result of ideas like the following:
  • We need to avoid offending our weaker brother.
  • We should not offend non-Christians because we might lose the opportunity to witness.
  • Paul stated that we should never offend anyone: 'We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed' (2 Corinthians 6:3).
After close examination, we will not only find the guideline of never offending anyone to be unbiblical, but we will also find the supposed biblical ideas used to support it are unbiblical. Taking Scripture out of context to support an idea can be very easy to do, and so we must carefully examine all ideas with Scripture.

If we are defending and living the truth of God's Word, is it possible to always avoid offending a weaker brother or a non-Christian, and should that be our focus? This article explains why never offending anyone is not a biblical guideline.

Unlicensed Abortionist Pendergraft Operating Secret Late-term “Fetal Lethal Injection Center” in DC area

Unlicensed Abortionist Pendergraft Operating Secret Late-term “Fetal Lethal Injection Center” in Washington, DC area, Website Shows :Operation Rescue: Operation Rescue has learned that disgraced late-term abortionist James S. Pendergraft, IV, whose only active medical remains under a double-suspension order in Florida, has set up shop in a secret late-term mill that can only be described as a “Fetal Lethal Injection Center” in the Washington, D. C. metro area where late-term abortions are being only partially completed.

Pendergraft has put himself in direct competition with another late-term abortionist, Nebraska’s LeRoy Carhart, who also recently relocated is late-term abortion business to nearby Germantown, Maryland, to evade new laws in his home state. But Pendergraft’s late-term abortion scheme is unique.

Pendergraft has recently launched a web site called LateTermAbortions.net that describes in detail how his new office is soliciting women from all over the nation and from other countries for “intracardiac injection of medication into the fetal heart.” This process entails the injection of the heart-paralyzing drug Digoxin or an air bubble through the woman’s abdomen into the heart of the pre-born baby for the purpose of killing him or her. The process is guided by live ultrasonic imaging.

“On one hand, Pendergraft says on the web site that the process is completely safe, then discusses how a mistake during the process can be ‘catastrophic,’” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “It is evident even from his own writings that Pendergraft’s new operation is dangerous in that it places women in a life-threatening condition only to send them on their way where someone else must clean up the mess.” Pendergraft makes it very clear that he does not complete the abortion process at his secret office, but discharges patients within 10 to 15 minutes of the injection, after which they are forced to rush back to their personal physicians in their home states or other facilities for the removal of the dead baby before infection sets in. Without treatment women in this condition can die.

The website also says "Though it is being called a Late Term Abortion Facility, it actually is not by Florida or most other State's definition of abortion." After the injection, women still have to go through "evacuation of the uterus."

More on the Baltimore ruling

Judge rules pregnancy center ordinance unconstitutional - Baltimore Sun: 'Whether a provider of pregnancy-related services is 'pro-life' or 'pro-choice,' it is for the provider — not the government — to decide when and how to discuss abortion and birth-control method,' US District Judge Marvin J. Garbis wrote. 'The Government cannot, consistent with the First Amendment, require a 'pro-life' pregnancy-related service center to post a sign.'

A spokesman for Rawlings-Blake, who sponsored the legislation at the behest of Planned Parenthood of Maryland, said she would not comment. An official with the Center for Reproductive Rights said in an e-mail Saturday that the group and the City of Baltimore would appeal the ruling.

GREAT NEWS! Baltimore Anti-Pregnancy Center Law Declared Unconstitutional!

Baltimore Anti-Pregnancy Center Law Declared Unconstitutional!: In the opinion, US District Court Judge Garbis stated, “The Government cannot, consistent with the First Amendment, require a ‘pro-life’ pregnancy-related service center to post a sign as would be required by the Ordinance.” In addition, the Judge stated that “viewpoint-based discrimination is considered a particularly offensive form of content-based discrimination.”

NAF Rejected Gosnell in Pennsylvania, Not Delaware

National Abortion Federation Rejected Gosnell in Pennsylvania, Not Delaware | LifeNews.com: Atlantic Women’s Medical Services is a member of the National Abortion Federation, an organization that certifies abortion clinics. In 2009, Gosnell applied for membership in the NAF for his West Philadelphia clinic but for many reasons was denied. However, he was working at Atlantic at the same time, and had been for years. Despite the collaboration between the two clinics, the NAF continues to recommend Atlantic to potential clients. Due to questions about the relationship between the two clinics, the Gosnell grand jury recommended that the NAF “reassess the membership of Atlantic Women’s Medical Services.” At present, there is no indication that NAF plans to do this.

Washington Bill Attacking Pregnancy Centers Faces Hearing Opposition

Washington Bill Attacking Pregnancy Centers Faces Hearing Opposition | LifeNews.com: The panels from those supporting the bill were comprised of Planned Parenthood advocates and interns, attorneys (from Legal Voice and the ACLU), a retired United Methodist minister, and two women who alleged they were harassed and denied test results. Notably absent were facts and anything other than hearsay; nor was any reason given why the onerous requirements of this legislation should apply to one – and only one – type of entity, and not across the board.

The panels opposed to the bill were comprised of pregnancy resource center directors, attorneys not affiliated with the PRCs or their umbrella agency, as well as women who maintained they were grateful to the PRCs and had nothing but positive experiences with them. A thick binder and 3 boxes of exit surveys given to clients of PRCs across the state provided proof that those served by the PRCs were happy with the way their needs were handled.

Report on Abortion's Mental Health Impact Flawed say 'Silent No More' Leaders

Report on Abortion's Mental Health Impact Flawed say 'Silent No More' Leaders - Christian Newswire: Leaders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, the world's largest network of women and men harmed by abortion, today leveled stinging criticism at a new American Psychological Association report claiming abortion is 'not a threat to women's mental health.'

'The American Psychological Association's so-called study is nothing more than a conclusion supported by opinions screened to match that predetermined outcome. The APA ignored or downplayed large, peer-reviewed studies showing a clear link between abortion and subsequent problems such as depression. Professionalism and intellectual honesty are not concepts I would associate with this report.'

'It's a classic case of the abortion lobby's political and financial interests trumping the truth. Over 600 post-abortive women asked to meet with the APA about their experiences with abortion and depression. The APA brushed them off, just like it dismissed any scientific study that didn't agree with its agenda.'

Free download: A psychiatrist looks at the effects of abortion

Family Research Council: The growing weight of scientific studies and the voices of women themselves tell the story of abortion as a life-changing, adverse experience for many. Relying on Dr. Martha Shuping's experience as a psychiatrist, we can describe the psychological impact of abortion through the lens of her clinical counseling and the emerging scientific literature. Checks of PA abortion clinics find some problems

Checks of Pa. abortion clinics find some problems: When they finally resumed routine inspections of abortion clinics last year after more than 15 years, Pennsylvania health regulators ordered 14 of the state's 22 freestanding clinics to remedy problems, a review of records shows. But none of the conditions found remotely approached the filthy and illegal operations described at the now-shuttered Philadelphia women's clinic presided over by a doctor who faces eight counts of murder related to his work there.

The most common deficiencies found by Health Department inspectors at the other abortion clinics, according to records obtained by The Associated Press, were failures to properly report medical conditions that qualify as 'serious events' and not keeping resuscitation equipment readily available. Also cited were failures to test or record urine protein and blood sugar levels, and issues related to checking on patients after surgery, in the recovery room. Other issues cited included not monitoring or documenting blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels; too much ice crusted inside a freezer for medication and not examining tissue from all first-trimester abortions, as required, to see if the women were pregnant.

The new inspections resulted in letters to six clinics in Pittsburgh, five in Philadelphia, three in Allentown and clinics in East Liberty, Upland, York, West Chester, Harrisburg, Reading, Norristown and Warminster. Eight of the letters said the clinics were operating in full accordance with state law.

In a September visit to the Hillcrest Women's Medical Center in Harrisburg, equipment was found well past expiration date. Also found was an unlabeled bag of blue pills and practices that raised patient confidentiality concerns. "It was noted that names of patients that were having procedures that day were displayed on the wall in the hallway where they could be observed by other patients," the agency wrote.

Delaware group wants abortion clinics investigated

Delaware group wants abortion clinics investigated: Members of Delaware Right to Life want Attorney General Beau Biden to launch an investigation into Delaware abortion clinics following the arrest of a Philadelphia abortion doctor on murder charges. His connections to a Delaware clinic has the group concerned about similar abuses.

Interpretation: Women who abort more likely to seek psychiatric help

Study finds that women who have abortions are more likely to seek psychiatric help | LifeSiteNews.com: The authors of the Danish study found that women who underwent abortions were almost three times more likely to seek psychiatric help for the first time in their lives during the nine months before and twelve months after the procedure, than women who gave birth. However, the authors did not regard the results as suggesting a causal relationship between abortion and mental illness.

More Misleading Research about the Mental-Health Consequences of Abortion

More Misleading Research about the Mental-Health Consequences of Abortion - By Michael J. New - The Corner - National Review Online: This research was funded by a grant from the Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation. This foundation was formed by investor Warren Buffet and named in honor of his wife after her death in 1994. This foundation has been very active in supporting abortion rights. Over the years, Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation has donated millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood. In fact, donations from the foundation have enabled dozens of Planned Parenthood clinics to add abortion to their services. Furthermore, this summer, an article in The New York Times Magazine indicated that two new programs designed to train and encourage young physicians to perform abortions were funded, in part, by the Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation.

Care Net responds to Danish study on abortion and mental health risk

Care Net | Headlines: Major media outlets [which largely ignored the March for Life] have been quick to trumpet a new Danish study that suggests that abortion has no mental health risk. Care Net President Melinda Delahoyde responded Thursday, saying, “This is the latest example of how research on abortion risks has become so politicized that it’s difficult for women to make a truly informed pregnancy decision. If it’s true that having an abortion has zero impact on mental health, then why do Care Net centers have tens of thousands of women and men knocking on their doors every year seeking help dealing with a past abortion?”

Politics clouded the safeguards against practices like Gosnell's

Karen Heller: Politics clouded the safeguards against practices like Gosnell's - Philly.com: People on both sides of the abortion debate should have been outraged by what was happening. Such atrocities should rise above ideology, appealing to basic humanity. Agencies charged with abortion clinics' oversight should have done their job, and acted swiftly on complaints. The problem is you can't take politics out of abortion. Politics clouds the whole scenario. And that, I suspect, is where the network of potential safeguards fell apart.

Pro-life Groups Ask For Federal Inspections, Congressional Hearings In Wake of Gosnell, Brigham Abortion Scandals

Pro-life Groups Ask For Federal Inspections, Congressional Hearings In Wake of Gosnell, Brigham Abortion Scandals :Operation Rescue: Operation Rescue joins with the Christian Defense Coalition, Generation Life, and other groups in calling for federal inspections of every abortion clinic in America and for Congressional hearings into the political corruption that has covered up for squalid mills and dangerous abortion practices in the wake of recent abortion scandals that have claimed the lives of women and newborn infants. A press conference will be held at 1:00 PM outside Kermit Gosnell’s shuttered abortion mill located at 3801 Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia.

New Study Denying Abortion-Mental Health Link is Flawed

New Study Denying Abortion-Mental Health Link Contains Flaws | LifeNews.com: Researcher Priscilla Coleman comments on the New England Journal of Medicine study addressing the risk of mental health disorders in women who have a first trimester abortion and those who experience a first childbirth. "The researchers focus on the fact that there is not a statistically significant difference in first-time inpatient admissions and outpatient psychiatric visits before and after an abortion, concluding that it is unlikely that the abortion procedure causes mental health problems. However there are some major problems with this conclusion."

More than one third of U.S. women will have had an abortion by age 45

Some 35 per cent of women will have had an abortion by the time they are aged 45, a new report has claimed. The pro-abortion rights Alan Guttmacher Institute also reported that 93 per cent of all abortions occur for 'social reasons'. Those include instances such as the mother deciding the child is unwanted or 'inconvenient'.

And, surprisingly, the institute claimed that 31 per cent of all abortions performed nationwide are on Catholic women. It also said 18 per cent are performed on born-again Christians or evangelicals. Both religious groups preach against terminating pregnancies. The numbers were publicized as America marked the 38th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v Wade decision. Victims of ‘House of Horrors’ abortionist tell of forced abortions, lifelong injuries

“Scores” of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s victims are coming forward after his arrest last week, says Pennsylvania’s District Attorney.  Many women are detailing the horrid atrocities in the media, with some alleging that he even forced them to abort their child.

One woman, Robyn Reid, told ABC News that she had planned to sneak away when her grandmother brought the then-three-month-pregnant 15-year-old to Gosnell’s facility on January 31, 1998.  “When I said no, the doctor got upset and he ended up taking my clothes off, hitting me, my legs were tied to the stirrups,” she said. “I was fully dressed. He actually managed to get all of my clothes off and tie me down to the medical bed. I just remember my very last thought ... looking up at the light and thinking, ‘Don’t fall asleep.’”

In the midst of the 30-minute struggle, she says the abortionist assured her by saying, “This is the same care that I would give to my own daughter.” Reid said the drugs Gosnell gave her were so strong they knocked her out for 12 hours, and she was carried home asleep by her mother and aunt. “What would you give somebody that small that would knock me out for 12 hours? What if I had died?” she asked. LifeSiteNews

State official to enforce abortion regulations

State official to enforce abortion regulations | CJOnline.com: Kansas’ top public health official said Monday that his office will require abortion providers to give the state more details about late-term procedures they perform. Health and Environment Secretary Robert Moser told The Associated Press that his department’s interpretation of a law requiring physicians to file reports on each late-term abortion after they are performed is different than how the law has been enforced in the past.

Moser said doctors must spell out the medical reasons for aborting a viable fetus after the 21st week of pregnancy. The law permits those abortions only when the mother’s life is in danger or she faces major, permanent harm to her physical or mental health.

NEJM study: Induced 1st-trimester abortion and risk of mental disorder

The information consisted of data for girls and women with no record of mental disorders during the 1995–2007 period who had a first-trimester induced abortion or a first childbirth during that period. We estimated the rates of first-time psychiatric contact (an inpatient admission or outpatient visit) for any type of mental disorder within the 12 months after the abortion or childbirth as compared with the 9-month period preceding the event.

RESULTS: The incidence rates of first psychiatric contact per 1000 person-years among girls and women who had a first abortion were 14.6 (95% confidence interval [CI], 13.7 to 15.6) before abortion and 15.2 (95% CI, 14.4 to 16.1) after abortion. The corresponding rates among girls and women who had a first childbirth were 3.9 (95% CI, 3.7 to 4.2) before delivery and 6.7 (95% CI, 6.4 to 7.0) post partum. The relative risk of a psychiatric contact did not differ significantly after abortion as compared with before abortion (P=0.19) but did increase after childbirth as compared with before childbirth (P<0.001).

CONCLUSIONS: The finding that the incidence rate of psychiatric contact was similar before and after a first-trimester abortion does not support the hypothesis that there is an increased risk of mental disorders after a first-trimester induced abortion. (Funded by the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation and the Danish Medical Research Council.) NEJM

Forgive & Forget

Forgive & Forget | Help For My Life: How do you forgive the things you can’t forget? How do I not allow those things that bring so much pain, heartache, betrayal, and distress to control me any longer?

Forgiveness means I will not allow you and what you’ve done to me to control me any longer. That kind of forgiveness – the kind that Jesus asks of his disciples -- comes from a deepening understanding that the person who has harmed me – no matter who they are or what they’ve done – does not have the power to destroy what I value most deeply in life.

A Message to Pro-Life Advocates in Light of Gosnell's Shop of Horrors

Life Training Institute Blog: A Message to Pro-Life Advocates in Light of Gosnell's Shop of Horrors [Josh Brahm]: As atrocious as Gosnell’s barbaric acts were…those things are not what make abortion wrong. Abortion is wrong because it unjustifiably takes the life of a human being.

The shocking nature of these stories is precisely the reason that pro-life advocates must be especially careful in the next few months to consider what they will say if their friend asks, “so, why are you pro-life?”

The lazy way out would be to reply with something like, “have you heard about the freaky abortionists in those places? They keep fetal body parts in jars! How could I not be pro-life?” This strategy is dangerous even though it may sometimes work.

800 joined Netherlands March For Life in December

800 joined Netherlands March For Life in December | LifeSiteNews.com: This year’s Dutch March for Life took place December 11th and attracted more than 800 participants – the largest crowd in the event’s 18-year history, according to march organizers Cry for Life and Christians for Truth. The annual event commemorates the date, December 18, 1980, when abortion was approved by the Dutch Parliament. According to Cry for Life, there were approximately 30,000 abortions committed in Holland in the past year, making for a total of 630,000 “lives sacrificed on the altars of self-indulgence since 1980.”

‘World’s largest’ student pro-life conference equips, energizes young pro-life vanguard

On the eve of the march, over 1,800 teens and young adults poured into the Bethesda North Marriott Conference center for the Students for Life of America’s (SFLA) National Conference 2011. Far from mere spectators, many in the crowd were pro-life leaders themselves: the heads and members of campus pro-life groups from dozens of U.S. universities came to learn new techniques from the pros for spreading the message on their home turf.

Bryan Kemper of Stand True Ministries said, “This is not your grandma’s pro-life movement. This is our pro-life movement. After all, this is your generation that’s dying. ... It’s up to you guys to reach out to your generation and do it in a relevant, exciting way.” Kemper also encouraged the crowd to maturity, asking them to be patient in their endeavors: “If you want to see the results, you’re in the wrong business.” But despite the hurdles, said Kemper, “You guys probably have some of the best ideas still inside of you. We’re just scratching the surface.” LifeSiteNews

Women say abortions left them sterile, near death

Women say abortions left them sterile, near death - U.S. news - msnbc.com: Just days after Marie Smith got an abortion at a West Philadelphia clinic, her stomach swelled and she began vomiting. Her mother, Johnnie Mae Smith, took her to a hospital where doctors rushed the unconscious 20-year-old into surgery to remove numerous fetal parts that were left inside her body, causing a potentially fatal infection.

The doctor who performed the abortion, Kermit Gosnell, turned up at the hospital with his checkbook, aiming to settle immediately, the mother said. Johnnie Mae Smith chased him away, vowing to sue. Later, her daughter got just $3,000 — after lawyer fees — from a $5,000 settlement.

Gosnell, by contrast, took in at least $1.8 million a year from his corner-store medical practice at the Women's Medical Society.

Daughter of Abortion Doctor Victim Speaks Out

Daughter of Abortion Doctor Victim Speaks Out - Local News - Philadelphia, PA - msnbc.com: Karamaya Mongar’s daughter Yashoda Gurung says that the family brough Mongar to the Women’s Medical Society for an abortion back in 2009. Mongar was 18 weeks pregnant at the time. Gurung claims that things took a turn for the worse after an employee gave Mongar anesthesia.

“We were waiting but it was a long time and my mom was not outside,” said Gurung. She began to panic after hearing an ambulance pull up to the building, but a female worker told her to calm down. “She said, ‘your mom is good, don’t worry about that.’”

With doctor in jail, brother of dead woman vows, 'We want justice' - CNN.com: The brother of a woman who prosecutors say died during complications from an abortion at a Pennsylvania medical clinic hopes the doctor who performed allegedly illegal procedures will never practice again. 'We want justice, this doctor has to be out of that clinic or he should not be treating anybody,' Damber Ghalley said referring to his sister, 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar. 'And the things that happen to my sister, I don't want to happen to anybody in the future.'

Planned Parenthood seeks FBI probe

AP Exclusive: Planned Parenthood seeks FBI probe | World news | guardian.co.uk: Planned Parenthood has notified the FBI that at least 12 of its health centers were visited recently by a man purporting to be a sex trafficker but who may instead be part of an attempted ruse to entrap clinic employees. In each case, according to Planned Parenthood, the man sought to speak privately with a clinic employee and then requested information about health services for sex workers, including some who he said were minors and in the U.S. illegally. Planned Parenthood's own investigation indicates that the man has links with Live Action, an anti-abortion group that has conducted previous undercover projects aimed at discrediting the nation's leading abortion provider.

Lila Rose, Live Action's founder and president, described Planned Parenthood's assertion as 'very interesting.' She declined to confirm or deny that the clinic visits were part of a Live Action operation, but did indicate in a telephone interview that an undercover videotape project of some sort was in the works.

Gosnell's PA clinic is not the only 'house of horrors'

A troubled Louisiana abortion clinic has ties to accused murderer Kermit Gosnell, according to a Pennsylvania grand jury report. The Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge is the former employer of Gosnell employee Eileen O’Neill, who was arrested last week along with Gosnell and charged with criminal violations that include Theft by Deception for pretending to be a licensed physician and charging fees as such, Racketeering, Corruption, Perjury, and False Swearing. O’Neill was present during the abortion death of Karnamaya Mongar and, according to the grand jury report, lied to authorities in order to cover up the truth about Mongar’s death. The American Catholic Lawyers Association was in Baton Rouge last week and threatened a lawsuit if the Delta Clinic is not shut down. Boehner's Remarks to March for Life Participants

Speaker Boehner Marks 38th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade Decision, Welcomes March to Life Participants - Christian Newswire: "The new House majority has listened to the people and pledged to end taxpayer funding of abortion. A ban is the will of the people and ought to be the law of the land. This week, Congressman Chris Smith introduced bipartisan legislation that would codify the Hyde Amendment and similar policies by permanently applying a ban on taxpayer funding of abortion across all federal programs. This is critical, common-sense legislation that deserves the support of the people's representatives and the president."

Obama voted to protect abortionists like “house of horrors” Gosnell

Obama voted to protect abortionists like “house of horrors” Gosnell | LifeSiteNews.com: One of the counts faced by Dr. Kermit Gosnell includes the death of a woman following an abortion at his office. The other seven were late-term babies, born alive, who were then killed by Dr. Gosnell with a pair of scissors he used to sever their spines.

As gruesome as this sounds, it’s precisely the kind of procedure that led to the passage of the “Born Alive Infant Protection Act,” passed by the U.S. Congress in 2002 and signed by President George W. Bush.

When the same bill came before the Illinois legislature in 2001 and 2002, it was opposed by then-state senator Barack Obama. In 2002, Obama even made a speech on the floor against the bill—the only senator to do so—arguing that the “pre-viable fetus” should not be considered a person or offered protection under the Equal Protection Clause.

President rains on March for Life parade

Liberty Counsel: In his public statement on January 24, President Obama said, “Today marks the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that protects women’s health and reproductive freedom, and affirms a fundamental principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters. I am committed to protecting this constitutional right. I also remain committed to policies, initiatives, and programs that help prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant women and mothers, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption. And on this anniversary, I hope that we will recommit ourselves more broadly to ensuring that our daughters have the same rights, the same freedoms, and the same opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.”

Women say Philly abortions left them ill, near death

Women say Philly abortions left them ill, near death; doc accused of killing 1 woman, 7 babies | StarTribune.com: This is sad: Davida Johnson said she first went to Planned Parenthood in downtown Philadelphia but was frightened away by protesters. Someone sent her to Gosnell's West Philadelphia clinic, at the Women's Medical Society, saying anti-abortion protesters wouldn't be a problem there. She said she paid him $400 cash. A few months after the abortion, she began to have gynecological problems. An examination revealed venereal disease. She blames Gosnell, 69, for the lifelong illness, which she declined to identify, and for the four miscarriages she has subsequently suffered.

Philadelphia Abortion Clinic Escaped State Oversight

Philadelphia Abortion Clinic Escaped State Oversight - NYTimes.com: For years, state health officials missed some unsettling patterns at the three-story brick abortion clinic on Lancaster Avenue. It was always open late, way past the time the pizza place next door closed at midnight. The women who emerged from it — often poor blacks and Hispanics — appeared dazed and in pain, and sometimes left in ambulances. The doctor who ran the clinic, Kermit Gosnell, had been sued at least 15 times for malpractice. Two women died while under his care. But the dangerous practices went unnoticed, except by the women who experienced them. They were discovered entirely by accident, during a prescription drug raid by federal agents last February.

Abortion in New York - Easy Access, Complex Everything Else

Abortion in New York - Easy Access, Complex Everything Else - NYTimes.com: New York has always been at the forefront of reproductive choice. Unlike many other places, New York has not passed laws limiting access to abortions. Patients do not have to return to the clinic on two separate days. They do not have to be told about what the fetus will experience, or have to look at the fetus on a monitor or have the procedure narrated to them in real time. Teenagers do not need parental consent.

In many other parts of the country, doctors who want to perform surgical abortions have to go out of their way to learn how. In New York, such training is a standard part of the curriculum for obstetric and gynecological residents. So instead of quarantining abortion into special clinics, many doctors offer it as part of a menu of services. In New York, unlike in most states, Medicaid covers abortion.

Kermit the Fraud

Family Research Council: One of the more shocking pieces of information deep in the Grand Jury's report, is that Gosnell, using the Society's name, 'purported to be a provider of children's vaccines under a program administered by the Philadelphia Health Department's Division of Disease Control' (page 199). A program that, under the umbrella of Medicaid, is funded with taxpayer dollars. The grand-jury report explains that '[e]mails going back to August 2001 reveal that he was suspended from the program repeatedly for failing to maintain logs and for storing vaccines in filthy, unsuitable refrigerators, and at improper temperatures... Chicken pox vaccines were stored in an ice tray above the containers of bloody fetuses... When [the inspector] asked who in the practice treated children, [one of Gosnell's employees] replied: 'They don't come in.'' The inspector told the grand jury that the clinic was 'improperly trying to count abortion patients as vaccination patients' (page 202). Despite her report, Pennsylvania officials looked the other way.

Care Net statement on Sanctity of Human Life Sunday

“As Congress and state legislatures reconvene, they are faced with tough decisions about their budgets in order to keep our country and their states afloat. Many are looking to non-governmental sources to ‘fill in the gap’ for the critical services they must cut. In fact, Washington State Governor Chris Gregoire issued a clarion call to non-profits and the faith community to step up to the plate. Care Net and our network of 1,100 pregnancy centers are ready to respond to the call. . . .

“Sadly, in Washington state and other areas around the country, there is an effort afoot by abortion advocates to shut down the work of pregnancy centers. A bill currently being discussed in Washington (H.B.1366) would cripple pregnancy centers, if passed. “With Gov. Gregoire’s call to action, it’s common sense that bills like these must be defeated."

Mug Shots Released After Gosnell, Co-Defendants Arraigned on Murder Charges

Mug Shots Released After Gosnell, Co-Defendants Arraigned on Murder Charges :Operation Rescue: Late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell and eight of his co-defendants were arraigned yesterday for the murders of one abortion patient and seven new born babies along with a host of other charges. Below are their mug shots and a summary of their charges.

NAF failed to report violations at Gosnell's clinic

Two months before the raid that shut Gosnell's clinic down, an inspector for the National Abortion Federation (NAF) walked into the same clinic to vet the facility for inclusion in the federation. While clinic workers testified that Gosnell cleaned up for the inspection, the NAF representative nonetheless recalled being appalled by the vastly inadequate treatment provided there. But despite witnessing numerous violations of basic standards of care, the inspector never reported Gosnell – who was arrested this week and charged with 8 murders - to authorities.

The inspector, watching a few first-trimester procedures in Gosnell’s clinic, “noticed that no one was monitoring or taking vital signs of patients who were sedated during procedures,” wrote the jurors. “She asked Gosnell about the pulse oximeter that should have been used for monitoring, but he told her it was broken. Apparently, Karnamaya Mongar’s death a month earlier had not caused Gosnell to obtain equipment that worked.”

The inspector also noticed that the clinic kept insufficient records of patients, and failed to provide patients with information of the risks of medications or of the procedure. Out-of-state patients were offered a bed to recover – unattended - overnight following an abortion in a facility where bathrooms and exits were difficult to locate.

The jurors expressed shock that these observations would not have prompted the NAF inspector to take more drastic measures. “We have to question why an evaluator from NAF, whose stated mission is to ensure safe, legal, and acceptable abortion care, and to promote health and justice for women, did not report Gosnell to authorities,” they wrote.

National Abortion Federation president Vicki Saporta said this week that Gosnell’s practice was “a total outlier” to the “very high quality care” of other abortion clinics. However, while acknowledging that Gosnell’s application was rejected in 2009, the NAF has apparently not yet provided an explanation for failing to report the facility. LifeSiteNews

NYC's bill targeting pregnancy centers: DOA

NYC's bill targeting pregnancy centers: DOA: Bill No. 371, which mimics ordinances passed in Baltimore and Austin, would force PCCs in New York City to post signage that they do not commit abortions or distribute contraceptives. It would also force them to notify clients if there were no doctor in the house. But then came a report two weeks ago from the New York City Department of Health that a staggering 41 percent of all pregnancies in NYC ended in abortion in 2009. The rate for black women was even worse – 60 percent. For Bill No. 371, the timing of this report could not have been worse.

Editor: Irony of ironies -- Jill Stanek notes that NY gets an A on NARAL's grading system. Pennsylvania gets an F for, among other things, imposing "a variety of burdensome requirements on abortion providers that are not imposed on other health-care providers," including stipulating by whom and where abortions can be done. I'd give them an F for failing to enforce them.

Missed chances to shut Philly clinic abounded

News from The Associated Press: Regulators ignored report after report of horrific conditions at a squalid abortion clinic, prosecutors said, leaving a trail of missed chances over the years to stop a doctor from performing illegal, late-term abortions that killed at least two patients and hundreds of newborns. The officials' failure to follow up on complaints against Dr. Kermit Gosnell came amid a 'live and let die' political climate that effectively ended inspections of all abortion clinics in Pennsylvania, according to the grand jury that indicted Gosnell.

Inside the 'baby charnel house'

Inside the 'baby charnel house' - Philly.com: The grand jury called it 'a baby charnel house.' For more than 30 years, Kermit Gosnell ran an abortion clinic in West Philadelphia that was the 'go-to' place for women wanting illegal late-term abortions or for people seeking no-questions-asked prescription drugs, according to a grand jury. This article offers some highlights from the jury's report.

Editor: I'd call them lowlights. At least we can be grateful the major media is running this story.

Abortion Clinic Last Inspected In 1993

D.A.: 'House Of Horrors' Abortion Clinic Last Inspected In 1993: The grand jury report indicates that panelists were enraged with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the DA Seth Williams said. Gosnell got his license in 1979. There was another doctor who was board-certified and a consultant but hadn't been there since the 1980s, Williams said.

'There is more oversight over women's hair salons than over abortion clinics,' he said. 'His hadn't been inspected since 1993. He didn't have the appropriate emergency equipment. That's why women died there. He ruptured uteruses and intestines of women. He didn't … give women oxygen if they needed it or checked their heart or pulse.' The grand jury and the judge in the case actually went to the clinic wearing hazardous materials suits.

Pennsylvania Governor Upset by Lack of Abortion Oversight

Pennsylvania Governor Upset by Lack of Abortion Oversight | LifeNews.com: The Associated Press today indicates Gov. Tom Corbett’s office is reviewing the grand jury report detailing the deplorable conditions at the abortion center and the acts in which Gosnell engaged in infanticides of seven babies purposefully born and killed with scissors. Corbett’s spokeswoman said the governor, who is pro-life, called what he read “horrific.”

“Pennsylvania is not a Third World country,” the district attorney’s office declared in the report. “There were several oversight agencies that stumbled upon and should have shut down Kermit Gosnell long ago.”

Gosnell denied bail

Other members of Gosnell’s [rogue's gallery] were given bail amounts, with Tina Baldwin on $150,000 bail, Madline Joe on $250,000 bail, Elizabeth Hampton on $250,000 bail, Eileen O’Neil on $1 million bail, his wife Pearl Gosnell on $1 million and Sherry West on $2 million. Steven Massof had not yet been arraigned.
Pearl Gosnell, Kermit’s 49-year-old wife who also has no medical license, faces charges of providing an abortion at 24 or more weeks and conspiracy, among other charges. Hampton, the abortion practitioner’s sister-in-law, is charged with hindering prosecution, perjury and obstruction of justice.
Williams, 42,  routinely performed illegal operations and gave anesthesia without a license and is charged with third-degree murder in Mongar’s death as well as charges related to the infanticides. Moten, 33, faces charges in the infanticides.
Sherry West, 54, was charged with third-degree murder providing an abortion at 24 or more weeks and other charges; Eileen O’Neil, 54, was charged with theft by deception, conspiracy, perjury and false swearing and falsely posed as a doctor at the abortion center; Maddline Joe, 53, was the office manager and charged with conspiracy; Tina Baldwin, 45, was charged with racketeering, conspiracy and corruption of a minor after she allowed her 15-year-old daughter to administer anesthesia.
Steven Masoof, 48, was the lone person not arraigned and he is charged with conspiracy and other charges. He was an unlicensed medical school graduate. LifeNews

Bill attacking Crisis Pregnancy Centers in Washington State expected to pass

Bill attacking Crisis Pregnancy Centers in Washington State expected to pass | LifeSiteNews.com: The National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA), a public interest law firm that provides assistance to Crisis Pregnancy Centers, is calling the Washington bill “one of the worst we have seen,” because of its unique civil action provisions.

Unlike previous measures of its kind, the bill dispenses with the ordinary requirement that a person must suffer damages before bringing a lawsuit against a Crisis Pregnancy Center. The proposed law states that “any person who is aggrieved by a violation” of the law is entitled to bring suit.

According to NIFLA, “an ‘aggrieved’ person is not one who suffers damages but rather is any person offended by the work of [Crisis Pregnancy Centers], i.e. an abortion-rights activist.”

Beth Chase, lead consultant for NIFLA, told LifeSiteNews in an interview Thursday that, because of this provision, the bill “puts every pregnancy center in Washington State at risk of harassing lawsuits.”

Health Dept Ignored Abortionist Who Killed Woman, Babies With Scissors | LifeNews.com: District The grand jury report against abortionist Kermit Gosnell contains shocking findings that shows significant problems in monitoring abortion centers. “We discovered that Pennsylvania’s Department of Health has deliberately chosen not to enforce laws that should afford patients at abortion clinics the same safeguards and assurances of quality health care as patients of other medical service providers. Even nail salons in Pennsylvania are monitored more closely for client safety.”

Wisconsin abortion facilities not subject to health inspections

Pro-Life Wisconsin: An open records request conducted by Pro-Life Wisconsin has revealed the state’s abortion facilities are not inspected by the Department of Health Services and no records exist of any such past inspections. Philadelphia doctor accused of murdering patient, newborns - CNN.com: In an interview with CNN, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams described the abortion clinic as 'horrific' and providing 'botched and illegal abortions.'

'It was a house of horrors beyond any type of definition or explanation I can humbly try to give. And it's very sad for the women that were there, that were subjected to such horrific and barbaric -- I would say medical treatment but it wasn't medical -- treatment.

'My grasp of the English language doesn't really allow me to fully describe how horrific this clinic was -- rotting bodies, fetal remains, the smell of urine throughout, blood-stained.' He said women patients were often 'very poor. The doctor gained a reputation. People far and wide knew that he performed abortions at any time,' Williams said."

WA state bill would make 'crisis pregnancy centers' disclose anti-abortion agendas

Bill would make 'crisis pregnancy centers' disclose anti-abortion agendas: For years, women's rights groups have complained about 'limited service pregnancy centers,' which often look like medical clinics - with helpful counselors, pregnancy tests and ultrasounds - but really exist to push an anti-abortion agenda.

A bill introduced Wednesday in the Legislature seeks to make the motives of such centers more transparent. It would require them to disclosure upfront that they do not perform abortions or refer clients to abortion providers; give out comprehensive birth control; or provide medical care for pregnant women.

BREAKING NEWS! Philly Abortionist, 9 Others Jailed on 8 Counts of Murder in Overnight Raid

BREAKING NEWS! Philly Abortionist, 9 Others Jailed on 8 Counts of Murder in Overnight Raid :Operation Rescue: Police in Pennsylvania have arrested and jailed abortionist Kermit Gosnell, his wife, and eight other suspects in an overnight raid after a grand jury handed down indictments that include eight counts of murder.

Gosnell killed Karnamaya Mongar, 41, on November 20, 2009, after she was overdosed on painkillers during an abortion in her 18th or 19th week of pregnancy. Mongar’s brother, told reporters that Gosnell’s abortion clinic was “dirty and bloody.” Gosnell’s medical license was suspended and his clinic closed.

A grand jury was convened to investigate. It has charged Gosnell with eight counts of murder for the death of Mongar and seven babies who were born alive during failed illegal late-term abortions then killed by Gosnell or his clinic workers. Some clinic workers have been charged with multiple counts of murder in the deaths of the infants.

Despite massive contraceptive use, 24% of unborn Californians die by abortion

Despite massive contraceptive use, 24% of unborn Californians die by abortion | LifeSiteNews.com: Guttmacher’s figures indicate that 214,190 women obtained abortions in California in 2008, meaning that 24% of all pregnancies ended in abortion. The national average, according to the same organization, is 19% of all pregnancies.

At the same time, California has one of the highest rates of contraceptive use among low income people. Guttmacher reports that in 2008, 1,530,550 female “contraceptive clients” were served at publicly funded clinics, reaching 64.5% of those who Guttmacher defines as “needing” the services, a figure second only to Vermont’s rate of 70.8%.

Oprah: My baby’s death was ‘my second chance’

Oprah: My baby’s death was ‘my second chance’ | LifeSiteNews.com: Commenting on Oprah Winfrey's recent revelation, Virginia Cline of Heartbeat International, said her words “reflect the brokenness many women feel when faced with an untimely pregnancy. That she would think death is better than life is very sad. Pregnancy help centers re-humanize women by meeting their immediate needs with a servant heart, by witnessing to the sanctity of human life, by helping them to recapture their self esteem, and by helping moms to recognize the inestimable value of their baby.”

Editor: Does anyone else have a problem with the idea that women need to be "rehumanized? This is the second time I've come across the idea that abortion dehumanizes people -- particularly abortionists. I believe this is a product of sloppy thinking. No one can make themselves or another person less than human.

If we adopt language like this, we're falling for the fallacy that the pro-abortion has adopted. They "dehumanize" the unborn by their actions and words. We must maintain the conviction that a person is made in the image of God no matter how sinful they are. It is more biblically accurate to say the sin of abortion hardens or sears a person's conscience.

Haskell’s Abortion Empire Imperiled By Proposed Late-term Abortion Ban

Haskell’s Abortion Empire Imperiled By Proposed Late-term Abortion Ban :Operation Rescue: A pro-life Democrat has introduced a bill in Ohio that would ban abortions after 24 weeks, or 22 weeks if tests determine that the pre-born baby is viable. This bill could have serious repercussions on one of the nation’s most prominent late-term abortionists, Martin Haskell.

Haskell boasts of having invented the partial-birth abortion, which was outlawed by the Federal Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003. He then modified the procedure to circumvent the ban by killing the baby in utero with a fatal injection to the heart prior to the onset of labor. Haskell operates late-term abortion clinics in Dayton and Sharonville.

The late-term abortion ban, known as House Bill 7, was among the first bills to be introduced in Ohio and indicates that House leadership considers the bill to be of a high priority. It is the first attempt to pass such legislation since 1997.

Abortion Has Caused 300K Breast Cancer Deaths Since Roe

Abortion Has Caused 300K Breast Cancer Deaths Since Roe | LifeNews.com: Professor Joel Brind recently commented on how many women have become victims. “If we take the overall risk of breast cancer among women to be about 10% (not counting abortion), and raise it by 30%, we get 13% lifetime risk. Using the 50 million abortions since Roe v. Wade figure, we get 1.5 million excess cases of breast cancer. At an average mortality of 20% since 1973, that would mean that legal abortion has resulted in some 300,000 additional deaths due to breast cancer since Roe v. Wade.”

Despite slight uptick, new abortion stats show pro-life success story

Despite slight uptick, new abortion stats show pro-life success story | LifeSiteNews.com: The mainstream media’s coverage focuses narrowly on why the abortion decline stalled in 2008; very few media outlets are taking a longer-term view and asking why the number of abortions has declined by 20 to 25 percent since the early 1990s.

Conservatives should take pride in this decline. Key reasons for it include more pro-life laws being passed at the state level (e.g., parental-involvement and informed-consent laws), and the declining number of abortion providers, as fewer physicians are interested in performing abortions.

Mental health worker may lose job after sharing opinions about post-abortion syndrome

Mental health worker faces sack after sharing opinions about post-abortion syndrome | LifeSiteNews.com: "Margaret Forrester, who works for Central North West London Mental Health Trust, told colleagues she was concerned women are not being given adequate information on the dangers of abortion to their long-term mental health. She showed co-workers a booklet on post-abortion syndrome that featured the personal testimonies of women who have suffered from it.
