AIDS and Population Control: Increasing Women’s Risk | LifeSiteNews.com: Why, when treatment for HIV has become more accessible and the overall death toll has slowly been decreasing, are more and more women being infected? And why is the increase concentrated in women in their childbearing years?
Heavily funded population control programs have promoted, and even imposed, powerful, steroid-based contraceptive drugs on tens of millions of Third World women. What they trumpet as “greater global access to family planning methods” has in fact given the HIV virus greater access to women’s bodies by altering women’s local and systemic immunities, cervico-vaginal responses and protective vaginal flora—all in directions that make infection more likely.

The Smallest Preterm Infants: Reasons for Optimism and New Dilemmas
Arch Pediatr Adolesc Med -- Classics in Pediatrics: The Smallest Preterm Infants: Reasons for Optimism and New Dilemmas, August 2011, Baker 165 (8): 689: "Although costs for the smallest infants . . . have been considerably higher, significant advances in management—notably surfactant therapy and greater use of antenatal steroids—have greatly improved outcomes for most premature infants. One can argue that neonatology has become more efficacious since the 1970s and that costs have not risen as much as might have been expected. Unfortunately, the rate of preterm birth (specifically, that pertaining to infants between 32 and 36 weeks' gestation) has increased since the 1970s, a trend that has run contrary to expectations. A variety of factors, including fertility treatments and the willingness of obstetricians to induce deliveries earlier, may be involved. . . . Since the 1970s, neonatal medicine has succeeded to a remarkable degree in both saving the lives of ever-smaller premature infants and doing so with fewer complications.
Pro-Life Battle a Marathon, Not a Sprint
Pro-Life Battle to Stop Abortion Not a Sprint, It’s a Marathon | LifeNews.com: "When I joined the pro-life movement a few years ago as a high school senior, I thought the task at hand was clear, but daunting: overturn Roe v. Wade. What I didn’t realize is that the movement to end abortion is just that – a movement, a shift, a gradual realignment of our society’s priorities."
Social class behind brainy IVF babies
BioNews - Social class behind brainy IVF babies: A team from the University of Oxford found that unplanned children's language skills were equivalent to a 'developmental delay of more than five months', compared with those whose parents had planned to get pregnant. Additionally, they found that planned children lagged behind those born after IVF treatment by 'three or four months'. However, the authors say these differences can be explained by socio-economic status; the gaps 'almost entirely disappear' when the family's background is considered.
Moving pinboard boosts IVF success
BioNews - Moving pinboard boosts IVF success: Currently, embryos are fertilised in a dish, and left there to culture for a few days before being implanted. However, this doesn't mimic how embryos naturally gestate.
Embryos really grow in the body in a moist environment, not a fully fluid environment, it's continually moving because of muscle contractions. Biomedical engineers at the University of Michigan developed a culture chip half the size of a credit card to copy these conditions. The embryos sit in small wells, rather than free in a dish, with channels filled with a nutrient and hormone mixture underneath. The bed of pins pulses up against the channels, pumping the mixture over the embryos to rock them and remove waste products.

Mark your calendars now for Birthmother's Day!
Birthmother's Day was created by a group of birthmothers in Seattle, Washington, who wished to reflect on the choice they made and the life they gave. While there is joy in knowing that life goes on for both birthmother and child, most birthmothers agree that there is also pain associated with Mother's Day, and they wanted to establish a day that would honor their birthmotherhood.
This year, please join Feminists for Life in honoring birthmoms. Mark your calendar for May 7, the Saturday before Mother's Day.

Abortion-Rights Group Faults Republican Presidential Field : Shots - Health Blog : NPR: This will come as no surprise, but the abortion-rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America says that none of the declared Republican candidates for president — nor any of those thought to be waiting in the wings — would pass muster with voters who support a woman's right to choose. 'They're all equally unacceptable,' said Donna Crane, the group's policy director, at a briefing to release a thick briefing book detailing the reproductive-health records of a dozen Republicans who are or could be running to challenge President Obama in 2012.

Minnesota's abortion rate drops to potential record low
Minnesota's abortion rate drops to potential record low - TwinCities.com: The number of abortions performed in Minnesota fell again in 2010, dropping the state's procedure rate to what could be an all-time low. There were 11,505 abortions in the state during 2010 - a decline of 7 percent from the 12,388 performed during 2009, according to a report released Tuesday by the Minnesota Department of Health.
It was the fourth consecutive decline in annual totals since the recent peak of 14,065 abortions in 2006, and it sent the abortion rate to 10.1 procedures per 1,000 women ages 15-44. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood's abortion numbers in the state go up! Something's out of whack.

Nebraska Abortions Down 10% Thanks to Fetal Pain Abortion Ban
Nebraska Abortions Down 10% Thanks to Fetal Pain Abortion Ban | LifeNews.com: Nebraska Right to Life thinks this ten percent decline is a result of the ban on late abortions. The ban prompted late-term abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart to largely abandon his Nebraska abortion business and move to Maryland, where he is doing abortions in Germantown, a suburb of the nation’s capital.
“While we will need to see from DHHS the numbers of abortions done in Lancaster, Douglas and Sarpy Counties for those months in each year; it is clear that LeRoy Carhart taking his late term abortion business to Maryland probably has a lot to do with this ten percent decline in abortions in Nebraska,” Julie Schmit-Albin, the executive director of Nebraska Right to Life, told LifeNews. “Legislation does save lives and Carhart admitted when LB 1103 was enacted last fall that he would be forced by the law to do late term abortions out of the State. He is now spending a significant amount of time in Germantown, Maryland doing late term abortions.”

Study Claims Telemed Abortions Safe, Despite Deaths
Study Claims Telemed Abortions Safe for Women Despite Deaths | LifeNews.com: A new study conducted by a pro-abortion research group based in California claims the use of telemed abortions — giving women the abortion drug without physician supervision — is safe. But pro-life advocates say that’s not the case.
Daniel Grossman, an assistant clinical professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco and an associate with Ibis Reproductive Health, conducted the study. He says three-fourths of the women in the study who decided to obtain the abortion drug via a Skype connection with a physician rather than after an in-person consultation, preferred not having the doctor in the room.
The study claimed 94 percent of the women who took the abortion drug with the telemedicine process were “very satisfied” and the study claims women had no more side effects or complications from the abortion dug who used the computer process than those who got the drug in person. However, 25 percent of the women using the webcam process said they would have preferred to see the abortion practitioner in person.

Posttraumatic stress disorder linked to smaller birth weight and shorter gestation
Posttraumatic stress disorder linked to smaller birth weight and shorter gestation - News - BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology: Women with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are more likely to have smaller babies and deliver prematurely, suggests new research from the University of Michigan, published today in the British Journal of Ob/Gyn.
The findings also found a strong link between low birth weight and shorter gestation to mothers with PTSD who suffered abuse in childhood. PTSD is prevalent among women and can occur following traumatic events such as war, disaster, childhood maltreatment, rape and battering. Women with low sociodemographic status tend to have higher rates of PTSD in pregnancy, as do African American women.

Do not reject His righteousness
The Daily Spurgeon: Do not reject His righteousness: "The gospel is for sinners who cannot keep the law for themselves, who have broken it, and incurred its penalty, who know that they have done so, and confess it. For such, a living Savior has come that he may blot out their transgressions.
"Seek not salvation by the works of the law, for by them shall no flesh living be justified. By the law is the knowledge of sin, and nothing more, but righteousness, peace, life, salvation, come by faith in the living Lord Jesus Christ, and by no other means."
Men Should Be Allowed to Veto Abortions
Men Should Be Allowed to Veto Abortions - FoxNews.com: "Giving would-be fathers a lack of veto power over abortions is connected psychologically to the epidemic of absentee fathers in this country. We can’t, on the one hand, be credible in bemoaning the number of single mothers raising their children, while, on the other hand, giving men the clear message that bringing new lives to the planet is the exclusive domain, and under the exclusive control, of women.
"Whether stated or not, the underlying message of withholding from men their proper rights to father the children they create is that they are not proper custodians, nor properly responsible, for their children.
"The notion that there is no emotional injury done men by depriving them of decision-making power as to whether the children they father are aborted is naïve.
"Just in my own practice of psychiatry, I have listened to dozens of men express lingering, sometimes intense, pain over abortions that proceeded either without their consent, or without them having spoken up about their desires to bring their children to term and parent them."

Exclusive Perspective: Sealed Court Records Show Pattern of Illegal, Third-World Abortion Practices In FL Malpractice Case :Operation Rescue: Yesterday, Operation Rescue obtained two amended complaints in the case that finally concluded last week. Court authorities told Operation Rescue that the case had generated 16 volumes of documents, which were all sealed by the court. However, at the direction of Operation Rescue, one pro-life activist was able to procure the rare documents through an open records request.
The documents reveal an almost typical abortion malpractice case of the kind that has occurred by the thousands over the years. What is extraordinary about this is that the aborted baby survived to sue her abortionist for a crippling monetary judgment. Most of these cases are settled out of court for undisclosed amounts of money, then sealed so the public never knows the truth about the dangers of abortion or the shoddy skills of abortion suppliers in America.

Two PA Abortionists Busted For Illegally Prescribing Drugs Along With Two Others :Operation Rescue: Abortionists John Barrett, medical director for the Allegheny Women’s Center in Pittsburgh and Alton Lawson were charged with dishing out over 20,000 tablets of diethylpropion, each, to abortion clinic lab technician Mark Wagner. Wagner, who has also been charged, never paid for the weight-loss drugs, which he used apparently to treat depression and anxiety, but considered them part of his compensation for work at the abortion clinic.
Also arrested was former registered nurse Karen Kane, who was not affiliated with the Allegheny Women’s Center abortion clinic. She reportedly received ten bottles, or 1,200 tablets of diethylpropion from Wagner.
“Drug abuse and the illegal prescription drugs are rampant throughout the abortion industry,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We have seen arrests and disciplinary action like this with abortionists all over the country. It’s one of the abortion cartel’s dirty little secrets.”

The research is the first to look at this question, according to one of the researchers.
Uninfected women were about twice as likely to catch AIDS virus from their infected partners if they were on hormonal contraception, compared to those who were not. That finding echoed a phenomenon seen in earlier studies.
The researchers checked to make sure there were no significant differences in condom use, sexual behavior or other factors that would account for the differences.

Former abortion clinic worker breaks silence, speaks out for life | LifeSiteNews.com: "During my time at the clinic, I was a staunch supporter of abortion rights, while all the time knowing in my heart that I felt that what I did was wrong, that I missed my baby, and that I wished things could be different for me. In hindsight, I can see that by surrounding myself with people who believed it was OK to abort babies, I was hoping that someday I would be OK with aborting my baby. This never happened."

The Six Most Powerful Questions To Enhance Your Board’s Strategic Awareness
The role of questions in Board decision making is often ignored or misunderstood. Questions are too often used as weapons to make a point, or to make a statement, or to manipulate someone to agree with your point of view.
When Board members refuse to ask questions that invite curiosity, it sends a very clear message regarding the culture of their organisation. Innovation and possibility are discouraged, and blame and confusion run rampant.
The true role of any question is to invite curiosity, the exploration of “What if..” and “How else...” This sense of curiosity is the gift that every Board member can bring to their Board. Conscious Governance

Funding for abstinence
Societal Rubbernecking: When liberals took over Congress and the White House, they zeroed out abstinence education and increased the already massive funding for questionable 'comprehensive' sex education that in part tells teens that 'showering together' is a 'green light' activity and often provides inaccurate information about condom effectiveness rates. In 2010 the government funded sex-ed programs to the tune of $874.1 million compared to the $50 million Title V state abstinence program.
As if this isn't enough, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebellius is proposing to use a 'preventive care' slush fund in Obamacare for yet another $110 million for 'teen pregnancy prevention' in 2012. And in a bow to both pro-abortion and pro-same-sex 'marriage' activists, Secretary Sebellius just announced a rule forbidding grantees under the 'Healthy Marriage Initiative' welfare reform program from teaching abstinence until marriage education.

Taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood abortions, violating Hyde
Taxpayers paying for Planned Parenthood abortions, violating Hyde: pro-life group | LifeSiteNews.com: American Life League has released a new video showing how federal funds given to Planned Parenthood are being used to support the organization’s massive abortion business, contrary to the federal Hyde amendment.
The Hyde Amendment, named after its chief sponsor Republican Congressman Henry Hyde of Illinois, is a legislative provision first enacted in 1976 that is aimed at stopping Medicaid and other federal tax dollars from funding abortions, except in cases or rape, incest, or where the mother’s life is at risk. But, according to ALL, their video proves Hyde does not work and has not worked for many years.

John MacArthur: Elements of Joy, Part 3
Elements of Joy, Part 3 (5/1/1988): Another thing that will steal your joy is guilt, the unwillingness to accept forgiveness. For many people, it goes like this: 'I just can't forgive myself,' and you remind them, 'But God forgave you.' 'I know, I know, but God does not understand my standards.'
You have a God complex, my friend. You have just crawled up one ahead of the trinity. You can't forgive you for what God has long ago forgiven you for. That is a massive ego problem. And for many people it's that one sin, they've got one sin somewhere in their life or one little period of sin and they can't forgive themselves for that so they literally limp through life, always going back to that one thing which is a non-issue with God which is a joy thief in their life.
What a waste of energy, what a waste of needless guilt. That's why I don't see any virtue in poking around to discover sin. . . . I don't think I need to poke around to find hidden sin. If God is in my life at work, He'll bring it to the fore. The problem isn't finding it, the problem is dealing with it.

The Daily Spurgeon: What is conviction of sin?: "The Son of man is come to seek and to cave that which is lost, but it [requires] God himself to convince men that they are lost; and the Spirit’s work of soul-humbling is just this - to get man to feel so diseased that he will accept the physician; to get him to feel so poor that he will accept the charity of heaven; to get him to know that he is so stripped, that he will no longer be proud of his fig leaves, but will be willing to take the robe of righteousness which Christ has wrought out."

Free Plastic Surgery With Abortion?
Free Plastic Surgery With Abortion? Gimmick Used in Miami | LifeNews.com: Margaret Hartshorn, president of Heartbeat International, says the abortion businesses are preying on women without financial means by putting them into high-interest payment plans for the abortions. “Abortionists are now using gimmicks like 'free plastic surgery with your abortion' to seduce women into their clinics,” she explains. “These predators seek to lure newly immigrated women from Cuba and South America by offering abortions up to 24 weeks for $120. When a woman comes in for the abortion, she is presented with a payment plan and costly interest rates for a total cost that far exceeds the original price."

Zimbabwe’s “Surprising” AIDS Success: Why haven’t you heard about the plunging prevalence of AIDS in Zimbabwe? It dropped almost in half, from an astonishing 29 percent of all adults nationwide in 1997 to 16 percent in 2007, according to an important study published in February. The study was briefly summarized by the New York Times, but its findings generated little buzz because the decline did not occur the way it is supposed to. In a nutshell, changes in sexual behavior – substantial reductions in casual, extramarital, and commercial sex – accounted for the drop in AIDS.
