Jared Ahlstrom was sentenced to five years in jail for unlawful termination of a pregnancy. He had confessed to twice secretly giving his girlfriend Misoprostol obtained in Mexico. She lost their baby at 16 weeks gestation. Colorado law classifies an abortion without a mother’s consent as a class 4 felony and it carries no mandatory sentencing. Dan Rubinstein, chief deputy district attorney, said, “It's offensive to me and to my office that doing this is only a class four felony.” The judge says Ahlstrom could only serve half his 5 year sentence if he behaves well.
