Planned Parenthood Performs an Abortion Every 96 Seconds

Planned Parenthood Performs an Abortion Every 96 Seconds: AddictingInfo.org blogger Stephen Foster recently tried to refute claims that Planned Parenthood performs an abortion ‘every 95 seconds. Well, okay, if you do the math, it comes out to an abortion every 96 seconds. However, as Live Action points out, that assumes a 24-hour workday. If you assume a a twelve-hour work day it would mean that Planned Parenthood aborts a baby about every 48 seconds.

Works and Words: Why You Can't Preach the Gospel with Deeds

Works and Words: Why You Can't Preach the Gospel with Deeds | Christianity Today | A Magazine of Evangelical Conviction: How often do we hear these days, with passion and approval, the famous dictum attributed to Francis of Assisi: "Preach the gospel at all times. Use words if necessary"? . . . At first blush, this sounds right. Except that it isn't.

. . . Some today will claim that there is no true evangelism without "embodied action." In fact, according to one critic, "Unless [Christ's] disciples are following the Great Commandment, it is fruitless to engage in the Great Commission." According to this view, the gospel is without its own potency. Its "fruitfulness" depends upon us.

But this is not the testimony of the New Testament. According to Paul—whose itinerant ministry met few of the "embodied action" criteria—the power of the gospel does not reside in us; it resides in the Spirit's application of the message itself. "I am not ashamed of the gospel," Paul said. Why? Because "it"—the verbal gospel, the "word of the Cross," the Good News of Jesus Christ proclaimed—is "the power of God for salvation" to everyone who believes (Rom. 1:16). So strong was Paul's confidence in the gospel's inherent Spirit-infused power that he could rejoice even when it was being preached, not merely in the absence of "embodied action," but out of overtly sinful motives (Phil. 1:12-18).

Why I perform abortions: A Christian obstetrician explains his choice

Why I perform abortions: A Christian obstetrician explains his choice | NJ.com: Willie J. Parker, an obstetrician based in Washington, D.C., didn’t always perform abortions. He’s a Christian ("fundamentalist Protestant") from Birmingham, Ala., who initially refused to even consider the procedure.

"I was taught that abortion is wrong. Yet as I pursued my career as an OB/GYN, I saw the dilemmas that women found themselves in. And I could no longer weigh the life of a pre-viable or lethally flawed fetus equally with the life of the woman sitting before me. In listening to a sermon by Dr. Martin Luther King, I came to a deeper understanding of my spirituality, which places a higher value on compassion. King said what made the good Samaritan 'good' is that instead of focusing on would happen to him by stopping to help the traveler, he was more concerned about what would happen to the traveler if he didn’t stop to help."

Editor: I wonder what accounted for his initial refusal. Did he not have compassion for women then?

Pregnant woman kidnapped, shot and burned

Pregnant woman kidnapped, shot and burned: Warren Police say a 22-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn baby are alive after a grisly crime early Saturday morning. She was blindfolded, and duct tape was placed on her mouth and wrapped around her hands and feet. The suspect then drove her around for about ten minutes before stopping in an alley in Detroit. Then the man said two things.

"He said 'you know why this is happening' and then he asked her about how far along she was," says Police Commissioner Green. The woman, who is nine months pregnant, says she felt liquid poured on her, then heard a match strike and then she was on fire. "She was able to get out of the car and start rolling on the ground, trying to put the fire out. And when that happened, two shots were fired and she was struck once in the back." She played dead, and the man took off."

Take Action on PRENDA

The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission | Take Action: PRENDA, as the bill is also known, would make it a federal offense for anyone to perform or to accept payment for an abortion with knowledge that such an abortion is sought on the basis of the sex of an unborn baby. The bill would also make it a federal crime to transport a pregnant woman into the U.S. or across state lines for the purpose of undergoing such an abortion. In addition, individuals who coerce a pregnant woman to abort her baby based on the unborn child’s sex could face prosecution or civil penalties under the bill. A woman who undergoes a sex-selection abortion, however, could not face penalty.

Surprisingly, no federal ban yet exists on this terrible practice. Email your Congressman to urge support for the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (H.R. 3541). Or call (202) 224-3121.

Centerboard: Hire a Leader and Get Out of the Way!: What's an executive board's most important function? Approving and monitoring the budget? Setting policy? Raising support? Representing the PCC before the community?

All of these are important, but one other responsibility is absolutely critical to a ministry's success or failure. Hiring the chief executive!

Why is that? Because this is the only employee the board directly hires and supervises, and because he or she will be the one to hire and oversee all other staff — including volunteers. This is true whether the chief executive is paid or unpaid. Sadly, this is an area where many boards fail.

Doctor who botched patient's abortion ordered to pay £780 per month for child's upkeep until he is 25

Doctor who botched patient's abortion ordered to pay £780 per month for child's upkeep until he is 25 | Mail Online: A Spanish judge ordered the unnamed gynecologist to pay £780 a month maintenance to the boy's mum after he bungled a termination at a clinic in Majorca.

The clinic offered to repay her the £320 cost of the abortion and sent her to another centre in Barcelona which refused to terminate her pregnancy because she was past the legal time limit.

Loving the unlovable

Loving the unlovable. | Stuff Christians Like – Jon Acuff: Sometimes the hardest part of loving people is that you don’t always get to hear the whole song.

You reach out. In a time of need or hurt or maybe even hope.

And you get pushed away.

You get chased away.

You get shoved away.

And you wait and you help and you stand in the storms of life with someone, and you feel like you are throwing a ball against a wall. You can’t tell if any of it matters. If your words or your actions matter at all. You think about giving up. You feel called to be salt and light, we know that’s printed in red, but sometimes in the space between hours and arguments, it’s hard to feel that way.

You keep loving. You keep hoping to see a change, not because it’s all about change, but because that would at least be a crack of light under the door.

But the light never comes. The door is never opened, even a little, and then they disappear. Not dramatically, maybe. They don’t float away on a hot air balloon or in a fast car. The ebb and flow of life just drifts them away. You feel you’ve wasted your time or maybe their time or everybody’s time.

Washington abortionist likens himself to MLK

Washington doctor speaks out against ban on late-term abortions - The Washington Post: Willie Parker, a Washington-based obstetrician, is a doctor who has performed late-term abortions. He stands to be directly affected should the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act pass. An obstetrician for two decades, Parker began performing abortions eight years ago, largely out of what he says was concern for women’s needs going unmet. He is primarily based in Washington and Philadelphia but also travels monthly to see patients in Alabama.

In this interview, he likens himself to Martin Luther King, Jr. "For the first 12 years of my medical career, I didn’t provide abortions. I did think about the moral complexities, and I also thought a lot about what Dr. King has said about having concern for other people. I was more concerned about what might happen to them than what might happen to me. And I feel like that’s an appropriate value system to operate around. . . . I choose to focus on the important service I’m providing to women."

When asked why it's important for him to work in Alabama, he says, "The reality of abortion is that women who are most likely to have one are women of poverty and of color. So this was a decision to serve women where I’m from, and an effort to go where the need is greatest."

Editor: What a nice guy.

Even in rare cases where serious medical problems do exist because of the pregnancy, abortion is still not good medicine. Given the physical and psychological risks of this procedure, an informed and truly “conscientious physician” would never prescribe a direct abortion.

Consequences of Superovulation and ART Procedures: Abstract and Introduction: Complications from superovulation include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, thromboembolism, and adnexal torsion. Complications from oocyte retrieval include infection, bleeding, bowel injury, and anesthetic complications. Early pregnancy complications from in vitro fertilization include multiple gestations, ectopic pregnancy, and heterotopic pregnancy. Stimulation, retrieval, and transfer techniques can be modified to minimize these risks and prevent complications. Further research in the field is needed to continue to improve the safety of superovulation and ART.

Action needed!

National Right to Life: Did you know that in our nation's capital, it is perfectly legal to subject unborn children to terribly painful deaths, even during the sixth and seventh months of pregnancy -- or even later?  In the District of Columbia, abortion is now legal at any point in pregnancy, for any reason, as long as someone is willing to pay the abortionist for the gruesome "service."

This appalling situation will be explored by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution on May 17, 2012, in a public hearing on the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 3803). If your representative is already a cosponsor of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, thank him or her. New Chinese study finds abortion increases risk of breast cancer

New Chinese study finds abortion increases risk of breast cancer | LifeSiteNews.com: Led by Ai-Ren Jiang and published in the February 2012 Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention, the research finds a “significant dose-response relationship” between breast cancer and the number of induced abortions a patient has undergone, meaning the risk increases with every abortion.

Researchers found that the difference for most premenopausal women with a previous induced abortion was a statistically insignificant 16% increased risk of contracting breast cancer. But those who had three or more abortions fared much worse with a 1.55-fold risk elevation.

However, postmenopausal women with a previous induced abortion showed significantly greater risk of breast cancer: one abortion increased a patient’s risk by a statistically significant 1.79, two increased it by a statistically significant 1.85, and three or more were linked to a non-statistically significant 2.14-fold elevated risk.

God’s Design for Sexuality

God’s Design for Sexuality | Day of Dialogue God’s Design for Sexuality | Join the Dialogue: God designed us male and female, and intended marriage between a man and woman to reflect His image, to be lifelong and faithful, to nurture and provide for the next generation, and to model our relationship with Him.

But as we look around us, we can see that things have gone terribly wrong with God’s design. When man disobeyed God, the connection between God and man was broken, the relationship between husband and wife was affected and healthy masculinity and femininity became damaged and confused.

Just take a look around and you’ll see many people who have been deeply wounded and hurt through the misuse of sexuality, through such wrongs as abuse, unfaithfulness, pornography, lust, rape or casual hookups. Often it’s young people or children who get hurt the worst, through fractured relationships or through being taken advantage of.

Without God, and without following His intentions for us, all the good of sexuality is distorted. The good news, in the midst of our sexual brokenness, is that God still loves us deeply."

She risked her life to save unborn baby

Pregnant mum, 21, risked her life by refusing treatment for lung cancer to save unborn baby - Mirror Online: Daniella Jackson was faced with the agonising choice of having an operation that would save her from cancer – or keeping the baby she was carrying. Doctors said it was urgent that a growing tumour in her left lung was removed but that was not an option while Daniella, 21, was pregnant.

She was due to give birth to her second baby in four months. By then it might be too late so she was asked to consider an abortion to save her life.

For Daniella there was only one answer. She said: “I was determined to have my baby. I felt such a close bond with her. I couldn’t let her go.” Her decision meant the rest of her pregnancy felt like a desperate race against time as the cancer grew.

In January she gave birth to a premature but healthy baby daughter. A month later mum was well enough to have the operation, which involved removing half of her lung. Now cancer free, the full-time mum is recovering at home.

Misoprostol for all women seeking abortion?

Misoprostol for all women seeking abortion? : The Lancet [available via free login]: "The second edition of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists guidelines recommended routine use of misoprostol only when the woman was aged younger than 18 years and the gestational age was more than 10 weeks [to soften the cervix]. The Society for Family Planning Guidelines in the USA reported that misoprostol was more effective than laminaria, acted more quickly, and was preferred by women. However, the US guideline did not recommend routine use because of a scarcity of evidence about major complications, and because of the pain and bleeding some women experience before surgery. Instead, use in adolescents in the late first trimester was recommended, and in those in whom cervical dilation is expected to be difficult. The problem with recommendation for such individuals is that prediction of the women for whom surgery will prove difficult is not possible.

"The findings from [this study] make an important contribution to this debate by showing that vaginal misoprostol not only facilitates surgery in healthy women seeking first-trimester abortion, but results in a significantly lower rate of incomplete evacuation."

What Nancy Keenan’s resignation means to pro-choice activists

Washington Post: Erin Matson, action vice president at the National Organization for Women, comments on Keenan's resignation from leading NARAL:
Young, women activists are very angry, and we’re feisty. We want to put on our loafers and go lobby. But we also want to put on our sneakers, go outside, and yell. I think we need a movement that incorporates all of that.
. . . From everything I’ve seen, the most motivated group on abortion rights are conservative, older white men, which is scary.
. . . When you look at the people who were alive during Roe talk about it, it’s as if they were the ones struggling, and everything now is just maintenance. You hear a lot of talk of ‘never go back’ and about rolling back rights. For younger women of reproductive ago, the way we’ve come to this isn’t about taking away rights. It’s about, why is my birth control so * expensive? Why do I have to forgo a week’s worth of groceries to afford an abortion? That’s a huge issue. So I think the frame of a past referential, this idea of ‘let’s not go back,’ isn’t as relevant to a younger generation.
Editor: At $300-$1,000 for a first-trimester abortion, that's a lot of groceries!

Study Shows Women Confident in Decision to Abort, Not Necessarily Informed

Study Shows Women Are Confident in Decision to Abort, Not Necessarily Informed: A new study by the Guttmacher Institute shows that women may be confident about their decision to abort their baby – but not necessarily informed. . . . [H]aving confidence does not mean that people have armed themselves with any amount of beneficial, tangible knowledge.

The study, in the June 2012 journal Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, looked at the “attitudes,” not the knowledge, of women who received abortions at one U.S. clinic. Data was taken from the pre-counseling needs assessment and clinical intake forms of over 5,109 women (5,387 abortions) in 2008. Researchers did not speak to any of the women. The results of the data evaluation showed that “[f]or 87% of the abortions sought, women had high confidence in their decision before receiving counseling.” The study results did not indicate a level of education regarding the stages of fetal development or the abortion process itself.

Editor: Obviously, women are not so settled in their minds about their abortion decisions. Otherwise, sidewalk counselors -- who do speak to women -- would have no success.

NARAL President Nancy Keenan to step down

In recent years, Keenan has worried about an “intensity gap” on abortion rights among millennials, which the group considers to be the generation of Americans born between 1980 and 1991. While most young, antiabortion voters see abortion as a crucial political issue, NARAL’s own internal research does not find similar passion among abortion-rights supporters.

Guttmacher Institute Misleads on Why Teen Births Declined

Guttmacher Institute Misleads on Why Teen Births Declined | LifeNews.com: They cite data from a recent National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG). It shows increases in the percentage of teens using various contraceptive methods, with no corresponding decline in the percentage of teens who are sexually active.

However, the Guttmacher analysts overstate their case. First, the Guttmacher analysts make no mention of the fact that the NSFG data also show that the percentage of teens trying to get pregnant declined as well during this time period. Additionally, even though the NSFG data show that the percentage of sexually active teens increased slightly, it fails to analyze the frequency of teen sexual activity.

Finally, the CDC report contains no data on the teen abortion rate. It is possible a short-term increase in the teen abortion rate might be responsible for the reduction in the teen birthrate.
