CDC report: More teen girls use best birth control

News from The Associated Press: More teen girls now use the best kinds of birth control, a new government study says. About 60 percent of teen girls who have sex use the most effective kinds of contraception, including the pill and patch. That's up from the mid-90s, when less than half were using the best kinds .

Editor: The best? I thought abstinence was the best! In fact, the CDC itself says so. I've just been researching STDs for our volunteer training manual revision, and for each disease, the first recommendation from the CDC is this: "The surest way to avoid transmission of STDs is to abstain from sexual contact, or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and is known to be uninfected." If it's the best STD preventer, you can bet it's the best pregnancy preventer.
