A new program in Fayetteville is providing free testing for sexually transmitted diseases.
The Loving Choices Pregnancy Centers of Northwest Arkansas facility in Fayetteville has, since 2007, offered pregnancy testing, counseling and services to women - free and confidential - in a beautiful, comfortable home near the Fayetteville High School and University of Arkansas campuses. Since construction of the house two years ago, the center has been restricted in hours by the city of Fayetteville, allowed to open three times a week between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Last week, the city's Planning Commission extended available hours to five days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some weekend hours.
Although the program is faith based, abstinence is not promoted and the program does not take a position in the "great debate of pro-choice versus pro-life," the director said. "There's no judgment here. If a girl doesn't want to talk about abortion, we won't. If she chooses to have an abortion, we don't judge her. We want her to be informed and are factual," she said.
