A Breech of Public Responsibility: In 2008 the American Psychological Association released a Task Force Report concluding that '[t]here is no credible evidence that a single elective abortion of an unwanted pregnancy in and of itself causes mental health problems for adult women.' Although the report was criticized by both pro-life and pro-choice researchers, it continues to be cited as evidence that abortion does not have a negative impact on women's mental health.
Priscilla Coleman, author of numerous studies on mental health and abortion and a leading critic of the Task Force report, has issued a response to these claims.
