The Press Association: Poverty link to abortion numbers: New figures have showed a 'huge gulf' in abortion rates between the poorest parts of Scotland and the most affluent communities.
Statistics for 2009 showed 3,723 abortions were performed on women from the most deprived areas. That is more than double the total for women from the most well off areas, with 1,753 pregnancies terminated.
