NY Board of Health wants birth control talk after abortions

Metro - Board of Health wants birth control talk after abortions: The NY Department of Health approved adding a line to forms doctors must fill out after performing abortions, recording whether they offered women contraception or discussed it with them. Board members said they hope the move will prevent unintended pregnancies. According to Steven Schwartz at the Department’s Bureau of Vital Statistics, 56 percent of women seeking an abortion have had at least one in the past.

Former New York resident Irene Vilar had 14 abortions in 20 years here. She often lied about the number during procedures, she said, because of shame. She doesn't believe the mandatory counseling will help.
