Baby killer gets contraceptive injections | NATIONAL News: A New Zealand woman convicted of infanticide for killing her baby girl soon after birth will have contraceptive injections and must tell her probation officer if she becomes pregnant again. The woman was originally charged with murder but the charge was changed to infanticide following psychiatric reports. Infanticide is a charge that carries a presumption of the woman being so disturbed by childbirth she cannot be held fully responsible for her actions.
The 29-year-old mother, appearing in the Christchurch High Court today, was sentenced to two years intensive supervision, though was likely to remain under mental health care in Hillmorton Hospital "for the foreseeable future." The woman had previously been convicted of concealing another baby's birth by hiding the body in a shed in Waltham in 2009. Now she has been sentenced for suffocating her newborn daughter and keeping the baby's body in a wardrobe for six weeks in 2010.
