The North Jefferson Womens Center celebrated its grand opening Saturday, one year after moving to 1016 Mulberry Lane in Gardendale, Alabama. Director Nancy Shaffer said the new location offers much more confidentiality to women who seek the center’s services. Shaffer said the new location is also paid for. Cutting the ribbon at Saturday’s ceremony was a former client who previously sought help from the center. She was there with her infant son. The non-profit center has been around since 1993 and offers a variety of services to young mothers who are expecting. The mission of the center is to steer women away from terminating a pregnancy. Some of those services include pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, information on abortion and alternatives, counseling and emotional support. North Jefferson News
